The Story:
At some point after the May 2020 update, I was driving home late one night, all alone with the road and my Satsuma. As my RPMs climbed, I noticed a high-pitched screaming noise that I'd never heard before -- or at least never heard as loud. I thought there was something wrong with my transmission, but after slaving away trying to fix things to no avail, I did some research. I learned that the loud noise wasn't actually a problem, was just the transmission doing its thing. That was a relief, but I still didn't like the sound. My solution was to dig into the game's assets and remove the reference for the transmission noise.
Well, that solution sucked. It required using UABE (which is a great program btw) to permanently delete things from the game's Unity assets files. That isn't a great way of going about things. My self-executing standalone mod file was also flagged as a virus, so people had trouble downloading it and getting it to work. At the time, I didn't think I'd be able to figure out how to code a "real" mod. Turns out, I was able to cobble together the perfect solution! It took me many more hours than it probably would have taken someone that actually knows what they're doing, but here we are.
Now that you can lower the sound of your transmission, you might find that you really notice how loud the tires sound on the dirt. I guess that's my next mission. :D
