Patch 3 (100% save compatible) for VC Balance Mod 13.0 uploaded to the Discord: https://discord.gg/b5ddSHK

Lots of improvements, but the biggest addition in Patch 3 is many new swords, including several new unique swords as quest rewards, created by Charles de Tonkin. Thanks Charles!

Patch 1 (100% Save Compatible) for VC Balance Mod 13.0 uploaded to the Discord: https://discord.gg/b5ddSHK

The main change is an expansion to the new scripted invasions introduced in Balance Mod 13.0 (with Patch 1 each of the 4 invasions now has 3 potential targets, so Frankish invasions can occur in Frisia, Wessex, and Denmark, Swedish invasions can occur in Norway, Denmark, and Alba, etc). Patch 1 also boosts player recruiting (especially when recruiting in the player's own fief), and makes some adjustments to bandit behavior.

Whenever Talesworlds release an update and your saves won't load - the new update has overwritten parts of this mod.
Just redownload and paste VC Balance mod again and it will fix.

      Doubt it.
Author hasn't been online in almost 2 years.

Is it intended to have every enemy constantly back up in battles? I've just started a new save with this mod and every fight has enemies throwing millions of projectiles and constantly backing away when I try to close the gap. Makes fighting a nightmare to do.

A bit late for this, but others might wonder what this means. You were trying to engage a line of skirmishers and the AI was doing its best to keep them alive. It's honestly something I do if my archers, for example, get engaged before my shieldwall troops do. Basically the AI is spamming "back up 10 paces" which is a good thing to do in a situation like that.

Is there a way to get access to the add-ons for the mod other than through Discord?  I have an old machine not supported...  :(

Everything got a bit weird. Factions are all over the place and the cultures are mixed as well. I was walking around and a grown old lady acting as a child. I see a bunch of Dwarves named Balin, in the same village. What's a "Cracked dog" ?
Edit: i just mounted the cracked dog wtf

To me the mod feels barely functional at this point. I added all the patches and everything and it simply makes the enemy all janky and acting weird, like shooting from very long distances while simply wasting ammo. I'm not entirely sure if I even installed the files correctly since you guys make it so difficult to get them through discord and sectioning everything into so many things. Just update the main file in one place to make everything functional!

A shame that you cannot choose the changes, since I use it only for the special units (I like to use the sisters and slavers). If I knew what their files are, I would put them only. The rest of the changes I hardly notice improvements, especially the speed of the troops, in the native I see the AI goes to 5 and with this about 2. The realism issue is fine, but it bothers to take double / triple in real time, it is boring that a journey lasts one minute, with this it reaches 3 real time.I also see that it damages something in the saved games, since I use the warbender to reassign the fiefdoms to the lords, and when using the mod the file fails.

I recently read through almost all the changes (apart from update 13, unfortunately) so I thought I'd sum up the most important elements of them and some minor ones for anyone who doesn't want to spend at least half an hour reading through everything. Also, I apologize for my attitude in advance, but there are various changes I don't like. But anyway, here we go.
-Cavalry is more common, but more expensive. Horses are cheaper though, so that's nice.
-Gloves are more common, but less worth using.
-Tournament fighting gear and rewards are made more regional, but you can't get a horse from them anymore, just a pony.
-Map speed is reduced, which means everything now takes longer to do, making trading, fighting wars, and just existing harder.
-Massive tweaks to the troop trees, as detailed above.
-The Troll's Axe is now used by some troops, and the strength requirements are reduced by one, but has been renamed "Dane Axe" because making two separate items didn't happen for some reason. (I mean, I never used it even on my companions because I could never get the strength requirements, but I still liked the idea that this was the axe you got from the Troll, even if he wasn't technically a troll. It's like the Elf's Langseax and similar gear.)
-Unique or near-unique items balanced so that the ones you always used are nerfed while the ones you never or rarely used are boosted. Not sure how I feel about that.
-Various minor changes regarding instances of getting renown that, in the base game, didn't always make sense.
-Better relationship defined familial relationships in the world.
-Some lord personalities are set, but for good reason in most cases.
-There are now no attribute differences between male and female player characters, which almost made sense, but it doesn't. I'd go further in depth, but let's just leave that alone.
-Mercenaries are now more expensive to maintain.
-Some quality of life enhancements that you'll notice when next you access some features.
-Troop recruitment made even more confusing, but we'll just say that towns are now even better for recruitment while villages are worse.
-One or two of the lords were renamed.
I think that's everything. The specifics are posted by the author.

Almost everything you post as a negative is actually a positive for me.

Balance Mods makes a lot of changes besides those  points you are making which boil down to a matter of preference but overall much higher quality of play.

After so many years of VC having come out, the only times I go out of the dark to actually replay VC is when a new balance mod iteration is out.

The Vanilla VC experience is extremely bland compared to some of the more thought out changes Balance does, I simply cannot play in a world without it due to many reasons, specifically the extremely detailed troop rebalance.

The patch notes are worth the read if you really want to get a feel of the mod and your points though valid, are questionable in the end.

I have over 3700 hours of warband play logged, a good 1k in VC in all of its several submod iterations, personally, Balance Mod trumps out all other submods out there due to how consistent it is in making the game be truly a choice of tactics over army spamming.

You need to play as several factions to realize how good the army plays now and how some troops, completely filler in vanilla, are now truly tactical masterpieces in proper encounters.

I appreciate you took the time you took to reply to me, and that it wasn't just screaming at me for not understanding. And yeah, a lot of the changes this mod makes may make a more enjoyable game for some, and I have been considering playing it myself. I should note though that I have read the changelog, and while I didn't include the full list here, I was only meaning to list the major changes that you'd want to know going in. It's just that I find a lot of the elements of this game difficult, and I feel like even more difficulties were heaped onto it. If I do play it for a good amount of time (certainly not just logging in, said I played it, and closing the game), I'll let you know if my opinion changes, which it could. I do like the options for the Svear and the Britons in the new troop trees.

Hey I know how you feel! :)

But trust me, if you want to lose yourself in a pseudo immersive re enactment of the viking era in the British Isles, this is as close as it can get besides Brytenwalda which is a bit earlier in the time period but is amazing for immersion too.

Personally I can recommend to you the combo pack of Balance Mod 13+ Armor Mod, as one changes the way the game plays and the Armor mod enhances visually some of the armor. There have been some lengthy historical discussions in the discord chat as well in relation to the armor and making them less "fantasy viking with horned helmets" and more into geek history buff approximation of what was being worn.

There are also a lot of other nice details and those two are very good together.

Also my warband player friend I can see your concern on how you spend your play time, so I urge to hop in the hooded horse discord server, where the community and hooded horse directly can sometimes answer some of your questions regarding Balance Mod 13!

We are all friendly over there and would love suggestions, input and ideas discussed in how to make the mod better.

I go there regularly to see how the mod develops and have learned how to mod some items within VC as well!

This is a very old game and there is no need to shout or scream haha,  we are still here out of love to the basic engine years and years after it came out.

So come hop in! -----> https://discord.gg/SmEz9GGx
