On lscd's original config file you can find solid shield colors on lower-tier units, a little tweaking and you should be able to get the setup you want! I play with shield emblems on because it helps me figure out who's who because I completely disable the little circle indicators above my troops when I play. Hope this helps!
If you only want clan colors on noble troops youll have to go through the troop trees to the units you want to change (i.e. low tier troops, copy and paste the "colors" and "combatShields" subfunctions from lscd88's original file. Either that or just download their mod and take out all the number codes in the "combatBanners" function under the noble troops.

Yes I play without any hud on troops too, like you I prefer to know who is with me ahah ;)
