In case this still get worked on: Instead of giving every saddle only positive boni and balancing it around nerfed horses (it is meant to be played with your -10 horses version), wouldnt it be better to just take all of your saddles, subtract 10 from the stat boni and keep the horses normal? That way it stays exactly the same, but, and this is a big point, this great mod also stays somewhat compatible with mods that add other horse armor.
Right now i play with the -10 and saddles give boni, but i currently use the horse caparisons from another mod.

Giving the saddles boni and mali like i suggested keeps the general balance directly in check and its easier to see what the tradeoff is compared to vanilla. Because a saddle that gives 9maneuver and 12speed in "reality" gives -1maneuver and +2speed.
It directly shows the tradeoff instead of having to think "i get 9 maneuver, but normally i would have 10 more, so really i lose 1".

Ill sadly start using the "only charge bonus" version with normal speed horses now. Thanks for your work nontheless :)

That's interesting. Saddles add greatly to the controllability of horses, stirrups not so much, but a bit in cases of lateral sword cuts. So generally I find the idea of the mod intriguing.

I do not entirely understand to results of your mod. With it horses have different speed in the game? So a fully barded t2 Empire horse is slower than a half barded which is slower than an unarmored horse? If so, that's great although also an enormous buff to horse archers which are not beloved by every player.

Would it be possible with the mod to make horses slower generally (so normal 0.8, half-barded 0.6 and fully barded 0.5, or so?). I find riding too easy and fast in the game.

Stirrups don't add a lot to the controllability but to the ability to keep a fully armored rider on the horse while fighting.

Well yes, that's what it does. But not just speed, maneuver too and depending on the armor to a different extend.

That would be possible but for that I'd need to change the stats of horses. I'll look into it if I got the time. :)

      edit:
I am currently working on it xD

How would Armor on a Horse give the animal a speed bonus. I would love to hear you rational thoughts on this subject. The Armor looks great but the stats are IMHO just silly. Sure more charge damage, and increase the armor based on materials, but seriously other then that unless you making the Horse barding magical or something supernatural it is more bordering on the realm of fantasy and not what this game is based on. Granted its your mod and you can do what you want but if you could add another mod version where you just increase the armor based on materials used to make it stronger I am sure I would endorse you and many others might as well. This would fit well in a D&D style fantasy world, so a game where its like Lord of the Rings or even World of Warcraft where magic exists. Thanks for the mod the images are on par and look great.

      Thank you for your feedback!

I will add that to the description tomorrow and different versions for it.

Historically speaking, fighting on horseback was unthinkable. Not talking about breeding and training a fleeing animal for battlefield, you need to be able to
1 control your horse as good as possible
2 keep you on the saddle

      1) different cultures used different methods but the saddles you can see ingame are all very good. (The time period of Bannerlord is correct on this point) It's secure and you have a good control over the horses head.

      2) first big invention where saddles. We have them. Stirrup later revolutionized fighting on horseback again because you can stay on the horse whole leaning to the side to swing. We have them.

      Now important for bannerlord:
      - Saddles for fighting brought a knob in the middle of the saddle infront of the rider so that you can hold on to it with one hand. Good for riding and leaning too.

Then you got these bad boys:
See the plate infront and behind the rider? When crushing a lance into an enemy, the same force will push you of your horse. Now you can stay on it!

Then the barding. How flexible is it? Can the horse move freely? Can it see? How good is the weight destributed? ( Horse collar!) Is it to heavy for the horse? How is the saddle attached to the horse (flexible? On a big surface or a lot of points?) How hot is it for the horse? (Leather, chain, plate..) All this is very important!

      To summarize:
      - no saddle = no leaning of horse to swing, no security to stay on the horse, bad control of the horse.

      - more armor will hinder the horse in movements, hinder it's senses and make it uncomfortable (very bad in stressful situations like fighting)

      - different aspects of barding. Stirrup and straps configurations, different kinds of weight destribution, more security for the rider or more flexibility, hinder the sight of the horse to make it not as stressed or let it see as much as possible to make its movements secure..

All in all, there are a lot of things to consider. I will make a new chapter in the description about that. :)
