Embers of the Flame Troop Tree
Members of this cult care little for common sense or sound tactics, preferring to fight as a zealous mob- at least if pushed to it. That is not to say they make terrible troops. Indeed, some may even become ferocious warriors.
Ember Layman
Type: Recruits
Tier: 1
Offence: Backswords
Defence: Rags
On occasion, Ember laypeople rally to fight for the faith. In terms of ability, there is little to distinguish them from any other looter. Indeed, it isn't uncommon to find them among their ranks, seeking to make amends for their crimes. Never the less, it is through combat that the faithful can emerge from the faithless.
Ember Initiate
Type: Light Infantry
Tier: 2
Offence: Swords
Defence: Robes
The worthy are inducted as an initiate, given robes and a sword. Although much of their time is devoted to menial duties of religious importance, it isn't unusual to see them in duties that require force as well. Their lack of protection and equipment however makes them unsuited to heavy fighting.
Ember Disciple
Type: Light Infantry
Tier: 3
Offence: Swords
Defence: Robes
It is here where disciples truly learns of the Prophecy of the Heavens, while also learning to teach it. Aside from their role as student preacher, they often form the actual strength of the order. Though skilled at the sword and emboldened by their faith, their value as troops can still be called into question.
Ember Fanatic
Type: Light Infantry
Tier: 4
Offence: Swords
Defence: Robes
Ember Fanatics can overcome harm with little more than their faith and robes... along with the chainmail beneath. Contrary to popular belief, they do not believe that faith alone will protect them. After all, dying would prevent them from witnessing Darusos's return to the mortal world.
Exemplar of Saint Darusos
Type: Shock Infantry
Tier: 5
Offence: Great hammers, great axes, great swords
Defence: Chainmail under robes, helmets
With armour, faith and a very big weapon, these warriors will smite the enemies of the Cult. Their tireless service has earned them the right to don a golden death mask in the likeness of Saint Darusos himself. Through this, they become the avatar's of the Young Emperor's heavenly might.
Hidden Hand
The Hidden Hand are not a true military force, however are a cut above the average bandit crew. They fight with blades of varying types, but never bigger than allowed within city walls.
Hidden Finger
Type: Skirmisher
Tier: 2
Offence: Swords and throwing knives
Defence: Tunics
The main ranks of the Hidden Hand resemble alleyway thugs, save for one difference- their knives. While not terribly suited to real combat, they are ideal in an urban environment, being deadly and small. On the field, these thugs make adequate, if somewhat impotent skirmishers.
Hidden Hand
Type: Skirmisher
Tier: 3
Offence: Swords and throwing knives
Defence: Leather armour and mail coifs
These are the operatives that the hidden hand gained their name from. Despite that however, they are not especially deadly fighters, being little more than above average. Still, they are given better armour and weaponry, and still fight well in their ideal environments.
Hidden Arm
Type: Skirmisher
Tier: 4
Offence: Swords and throwing knives
Defence: Chainmail armour and helmets
Hidden Arms form the true upper ranks of the Hidden Hand. With such a position, they can now afford themselves protection on par with the Empire's vaunted infantry. Yet they still continue to fight in the way they always have, albeit with greater skill than their lesser counterparts.
Hidden Puppeteer
Type: Skirmisher
Tier: 5
Offence: Swords, maces and throwing knives
Defence: Chainmail armour, robes and helmets
Second to only the leaders of the Hidden Hand themselves, Puppeteers constitute their advisers, bodyguards and personal companions. As warriors, they are highly capable swordsmen, often armed with custom made swords- along with their signature throwing knives.
Legion of the Betrayed Troop Tree
The legionaries of the old Calradic armies were not the reason for the Empire's defeat at Pendraic. Should one believe otherwise, they have but to look upon their troop tree, composed of formidable infantry.
Betrayed Velite
Type: Skirmishers
Tier: 2
Offence: Throwing spears, javelins and swords
Defence: Tunics and round shields
In battle, the Velite is the first line of infantry to engage the enemy. Drawn from the poorest and youngest, they are equipped with little besides javelins, shields, blades and a wolfhead. Despite this however, they are more than capable of punching well above their weight, particularly in their role as skirmishers.
Betrayed Hastati
Type: Shield Infantry
Tier: 3
Offence: Throwing spears, javelins and swords
Defence: Gambeson, helmets and oval shields
The second line to engage the enemy are the Hastati, composed of younger legionaries. They use much of the same weapons as the Velite, with the additions of a bigger shield and heavier armour. Instead of skirmishing however, they meet the foe as an armoured line, bearing the brunt of the initial clash.
Betrayed Principe
Type: Shield Infantry
Tier 4
Offence: Throwing spears, javelins and swords
Defence: Leather, lamellar, helmets and oval shields
Those able to afford good armour and weaponry formed the third line. Though often seen as little more than over privileged geezers by their younger compatriots, it would be a mistake to underestimate their skill at arms. Indeed, many Principe were once Hastati, having fought their way up the ranks.
Betrayed Triarii
Type: Shield Infantry
Tier 5
Offence: Spears, javelins and swords
Defence: Lamellar armour, helmets and oval shields
Triarii are the final line, composed of only the best of the army. Should all other lines fall, it is up to the Triarii to finish the battle. Their skill with spears, javelins and swords, along with their heavy armour mark them as a highly effective elite reserve, capable of taking on a wide variety of threats.
Betrayed Equite Extraordinarii
Type: Mounted SkirmisherTier 5Offence: Throwing spears, javelins and swordsDefence: Leather, lamellar, helmets and oval shields
Cavalry was not a role exclusive to the rich in the Calradic Empire, although it didn't hurt to be capable of affording a horse. As riders, they make proficient scouts and flankers, using their javelins to deadly effect, and then fleeing before the enemy is able to retaliate.
