About this mod
Dremora and Golden Saints now have new Dremora weapons instead of Daedric ones, to better reflect the in-universe rarity of Daedric weapons rarity balance the game's economy.
- Permissions and credits
But for any avid adventurer, they seem downright plentiful. Dremora and Saints are strong, yes, but if you put together a squad of decently experienced fighters and mages, they're not insurmountable. Why aren't all moderately successful freelance adventurers millionaires?
Simple. Most Daedra can't get their hands on high-quality Daedric weapons either. Those are reserved for the greatest of Daedra; champions, warlords, and powerful businessdaedra.
If you're not the elite of the elite in Oblivion, you make do with Dremora weapons, made by Dremora smiths. Compared to the highest quality Daedric arms, Dremora weapons are made from a lower quality pig-ebonsteel, and with the hearts of lesser daedra, with some smiths even getting away with scamp hearts for smaller arms.
When an adventurer becomes strong enough to fight these Daedra, they rush to the weapon merchants with their spoils, only to be laughed out of the room, or accused of scamming. Down-on-their-luck nobles may purchase a Dremora weapon pass off as genuine Daedric, only to be viciously mocked behind their back.
Dremora weapons are not exactly weak, but due to their massive weight, most adventurers prefer to stick with more efficient arms. The small value they do hold is to enchanters wanting to practice on a relatively high-capacity object without damaging something rare.
...So yeah, this is a balancing mod, because when I play I have to invent role-playing reasons for my characters not to pick up these weapons so they don't get too rich too fast.
Obviously based on the same concept from Oblivion.
The models and textures are edited from the vanilla Daedric weapons.
Weapon stats:
- Damage stats of equivalent Dwemer item (approximated for items without a Dwemer equivalent)
- Same weight as Daedric weapon
- half enchantment capacity of Daedric weapon
- 1/80 the value of Daedric weapon
- half durability of Daedric weapon
- bypasses normal weapon resistance
List of changes:
- "random excellent melee weapon" leveled list taken away from Dremora and Dremora Lords, replaced with new "random_dremora_weapon" leveled list. Most static Daedra, such as Gothren's guards, are untouched.
- "random_golden_saint_shield" list altered: glass and Daedric shields removed, Dremora shield and towershield added
- "random_golden_saint_weapon" list wiped, new contents: various enchanted Dwarven shortswords, Dremora katana/longsword/shortsword/mace/war axe
- Strength attribute of Golden saint, Dremora, and Dremora Lord raised to compensate for having weaker weapons, to 90/90/100 respectively (with this change they're still weaker than a vanilla creature with a Daedric weapon, but putting the attribute any higher would risk lore-breaking)
- Since the Daedric Tower Shield would no longer be obtainable at all, it is given to Staada (the Golden Saint from the Azura quest)
Should be compatible with anything that doesn't also change the affected creatures and lists.
