Hi there! Are you sure you are running "The Publicans" mod? I adjusted the script to just unlock the room and block rent during the quest. Once it is finished it should revert to standard "The Publicans" settings. I tested this for compatibility.
I don't use "The Publicians" mod, but ı use "Improved Inns Expanded - Entertainers" from BCOM Patches, if that matters. Room in The Pilgrim's Rest have two doors on my game but after ı add your mod's script "Pub_MolagMar_Pilgrim" to your mod's "Rent_MolagMar_Pilgrim_Door" it fixed, just like you said: "script to just unlock the room and block rent during the quest."

Can I suggest that maybe this pilgrim doesn't occupy the only room for rent in Molag Mar? It's quite inconvenient if you don't want to help the pilgrim. And I think it might be quite appropriate if instead of taking up a bed there he was out in the corridor on a bedroll or something (which can all be removed after you help him).
Seriously, please make a version that doesn't place the Molag Mar pilgrim in the Pilgrim's Rest. I really like the mod, but removing the use of the only usable bed in Molag Mar until a quest is done is really quite frustrating.
I'm using Pleasant Pilgrim's Rest. Definitely not compatible with that, either, as it has double doors on the room.
I like to use the Pilgrims Rest. Love how the name plays out here. But I'm going to use the other room and place the NPC in the tavern room while active.
Updating this mod is currently in WIP stage. I have new quests/pilgrims and a randomization mechanic to not activate all quests at once on the way. But you don't have to use the mod if you don't like it.
Really like this, Temple is my favorite faction and these quests are great RP additions. I use Dynamic Actors so I got a laugh out of the character with blight disease having a twin speaking to me from within a rock.
Ran into my first Pilgrim on my new heavily quest-modded playthrough! The term "Sacrilegious Scrib" got a big grin from me. Nice little camp site, and when I returned some time later escorting a second pilgrim she had packed up and cleaned camp which is a really nice immersive touch. Endorsed and recommended.

Yeah, that can happen sometimes. Not much I can do about it. I already reposition him to the correct spot if you enter the cell and he passes out on the bed, but it is a finicky thing. OpenMW and Vanilla also have differences in how the NPC lands on knockout... It goes right like 99% of the times..
But let me check it again tomorrow. How did you finish the quest? Did you place all the offerings at the shrine?
I tried this, but couldn't reproduce the error on vanilla or OpenMw. Not sure what might cause this for you, since the backpack is set up as regular container with only vanilla items. It doesn't have a script attached or anything.
Unfortunately it is incompatible with the mountain of fear (https://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/52859), they both touch mount kand cavern. Do you think it's possible to make a compatibilty patch ?
