huh that's weird, I can see the problem is the fact that the cell is now called "Bal Foyen, Docks" with a comma, but when I look at the Julan + TR patch in the CS, it shows that greeting as having the correct cell name and not "Bal Foyen Docks" like your error message says? I'll try to upload a new version sometime soon and hopefully that'll fix it! and thanks so much for the nice words, (even though you're getting some errors haha)! :)
Thanks for the quick reply, and thanks for looking into it. Don't sweat it too much, though... I mean, I'd love to use that plug-in with Julan, because it adds his generic commentary where otherwise he'd have none, but these things can be a PITA to figure out, so I understand if it's something you can't fix.
haha no worries, coincidentally enough I noticed a typo in the TR patches a while back but tbh I couldn't justify uploading a whole new version just for that lol, so if nothing else at least I can fix that one bug! :)
I just uploaded a new version of the TR patches - let me know if the new version doesn't work for you!!
Thanks for the new patch. Sadly, though, I'm still getting the same error, and I honestly have no idea why. It could be something on my end, but I'm at a complete loss. Maybe this just wasn't meant to be!
well dang! sorry to hear that :( I'm really not sure what could be causing it then, because I just went through the patch again after reading your comment and there's not a single greeting (or a single line at all) pointing to "Bal Foyen Docks" left, only "Bal Foyen, Docks" - you said you have the most recent version of TR, does that mean the update from like a week ago? usually errors like what you're getting will also pop up in the CS when I open the patches but it's not popping up there either, so I am at a bit of a loss for how to help unfortunately! :')
My version of TR is the most recent, released June 27.
It's OK, I appreciate you trying. There could well be something going on with my load order, but I don't want to mess with it too heavily, because I have something like 350 mods all running VERY smoothly together...My game looks great and almost never crashes (and that is with MGE XE)...so I don't want to risk breaking anything!
that is very understandable, thanks for your understanding! I'm really stumped as to what could be causing this bug tbh, I hope at least the other patches are working for you! :')
Hello, I got another question does the mod also work with this version of Julan? https://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/56043 I want to use tomb of the Snow Prince on my next playtrough but that seems to break Julan and need this patch for it.
hello again! :) I actually didn't know this version existed, thanks for commenting about it! to be honest I really doubt these patches would work for the same reason that they didn't work with the BCOM version at first, which is that since the Julan .esp has another master file (in this case TOTSP) the patches basically think it's a whole other mod altogether! especially since that mod page you linked says it is specifically editing the original file - that's what the BCOM replacer file did too so that's why I think they probably won't work together! :')
I probably won't be making a new set of these patches for use with this TOTSP version to be honest - I was already pretty familiar with BCOM and all it's patches because I downloaded them for something else, but I don't know anything about TOTSP so it would be a lot of effort to remake these Julan patches again!
ooh I didn't know that patch existed either! I wonder if it would work, I think it probably depend on whether or not Katya's version has TOTSP as a master file or not - the description just says it "adjusts the coordinates of some quests" which it could technically do without ""requiring"" TOTSP! I will ask Katya about it :)
after speaking to katya, it seems like the BCOM + TOTSP replacer on that page might actually work with the BCOM version patches here! I cant test it out myself because I don't use either BCOM or TOTSP haha, but if any version will work with these patches then it will likely be katya's!
Greetings. First of all, I really loved the mod and the changes it made to the main quest are very interesting, and Shani is a funny partner. I wanna request a port for Morroblivion. Thanks ind advance
hello there! :) actually I'm not the creator of the entire mod, just these patches! the mod creator is kateri, who can be found on a couple of websites but also told me when we talked that contact by email is best!
Hallo, First of all, I love the dialog i get in Tamriel rebuild. Great work on that Secondly i am having a problem when using the mod. In the overwold Julan keeps saying "Let's stick together, and ready to fight. You never know what might get in one of these ruins" He even says this in base game overworld. I tried a few things but the only fix seems to be disabeling the mod.
I also noticed i have some errors when i launch the game. The errors are as followed "Cell "Kalkusara, Shrine of Malak's Peances"Not found for dailogue type greeting info "EMPTY" "Cell "Bal foyen Docks" Not found for dailogue type greeting info "EMPTY" "Cell" "Narsis Waterfront"Not found for dailog type greeting info "Empty" "Cell "Maar-Bani Crossing not found for dailoque type greetting info EMPTY" "Cell" Bodrum not found for dialogue type greeting info "EMPTY"
I am not sure if these two are related. I disabled the mod for now for i am going to do base game content for a bit but i would love to have the mod back on when i go back to mainland morrowind! If you could help be i would be very greateful. Thank you in advanced!!
hello there!! thanks so much for the nice words, even if the patch isn't working quite right for you! :')
I think I know what causes those issues, are you using the most recent version of Tamriel Rebuilt from June 2nd or an older Grasping Fortunes version? that first error with the "Kalkusara, Shrine of Malak's Penances" is a bug that I had in my game too and it's because the most recent Tamriel Rebuilt changed the name of that cell to "Kalkusara, Shrine of Malak's Penance" or something similar - a really small change but enough that it made the Julan TR patch no longer work properly, so I had to update the patch to this June 2nd version! I will look at the patches on my end as well of course, but if updating doesn't help, let me know! :)
I updated and Julan seems to work fine now and no longer just says "Let's stick togoether" and the first error doesnt appear anymore. The rest still do however. Thank you for helping me get Julan not say the same thing over and over agian!
huh that's interesting, I wonder what could be causing the other errors! I know some of those places also got a small name change (for example, from "Bal Foyen Docks" to "Bal Foyen, Docks" with a comma), but the errors don't show up when I open the patch in the CS and the dialogue shows as having the correct new location names listed in the conditions?
I'm pretty sure those lines are all related to when he is drunk, so if it causes him to repeat the wrong thing when he is drunk, please let me know! otherwise I'm not really sure how to fix these errors, sorry :'''')
Would you be able to say in what way these patches aren't compatible with BCOM and UMP? I'm looking for them to stop insisting that I have nothing good to eat like they're picky toddlers, so just really looking for the OAAB and Ashfall patches, but don't wanna have to drag Julan's ass down Red Mountain again on a fresh playthrough just to feed him some slightly different bread.
firstly, LMAO this comment really made me laugh, it really does make em seem like picky toddlers huh :'D
secondly, the issue with UMP is actually something I worked out with another person, FerasekKoorich, in the comments on this page - you can read the whole chain if you want for more information, but it basically boils down to all my research indicating that UMP can cause some problems with companions because it fixes a certain bug that involves them in some way - don't know how but in this case it makes other characters use Julan's dialogue! :') these patches were made using MCP and PfP installed instead, and while those two aren't "requirements" or anything I know Kateri recommends using the former at least!
thirdly, with BCOM the problem is that the replacer Julan .esp has BCOM as a master file which makes it technically a different .esp as far as these patches are concerned, and so using them as-is results in similar a similar issue of other characters using the wrong dialogue! I think its a lot more possible to make new patches for BCOM compared to UMP, it's just that it would take a really long time :') I've been thinking a lot about making BCOM patches lately and your comment has inspired me to give it a try, just don't expect em for a while haha!
Good to know that I can be of some inspiration, and some humour! I'll keep my eyes peeled, but also want to let you know that I appreciate the work you've put into these patches as they are. Kudos!
alright, just uploaded the BCOM version of the patches! :) since I don't use BCOM I can't exactly test them haha, so if you do end up using any of them please let me know if they're bugged or broken in any way!!
I won't lie, I have been checking this once a day to see where you're at, and this is amazing! I'll be force-feeding those Velothi gits the moment I load up, and I'll let you know!
Like I said, I'll only be using the Ashfall and OAAB patches as I don't play with the mainland or the other mods, but I'll be sure to keep you in the loop on what I find.
heck yeah!! let them taste some delicious sweetrolls!! :D
even just knowing that two of them are working alright would be great in my opinion haha, especially since those two in particular are such popular mods!
Sorry it took a while to feed back, but the food is definitely working as it should be. Absolutely solid work! And thanks so much for putting the time and effort into making this - it might feel that this sort of patch goes a bit underappreciated but it's a joy to see someone take the care to make players' experiences that much more immersive. :)
:D I'm so glad to hear it!! and thank you so much for the kind words omg?? :'''') that's the funny thing about these sorts of patches I guess, is that technically if they're working then you shouldn't really notice because it's just J+S's regular vanilla behaviors haha! but if even one person appreciates them then they're worth posting, so I'm very happy to read your comment!! :)
I seem to have Julan 1.3? "KS_Julan_Ashlander Companion_1.3.esp" from 8/2006. I can't find any download of the base Julan mod on Nexus, where do I find version v2.0 and v3.0?
wow I didn't even know a 1.3 existed out there, how interesting! if you check the "requirements" tab in the description, down at the bottom under "off-site requirements" there's links to both the v2.0 and v3.0 versions :) specifically the links are to the modder Emma's and Kateri's websites - I don't think any version of the whole mod is uploaded here on nexus anywhere (even the version included in BCOM's patches seems to be a somewhat simplified version of v3.0)!
just uploaded a new version! :) I haven't been able to test it since I've got a few mods in my load order currently broken by the recent update, so please let me know if it works for you!!!
I just tried using the patches for OOAB, Ebonheart Underworks, and TR with Julan 2.0.
The Ebonheart Underworks patch causes Julan's "-- training" dialogue to be switched with that used by trainer NPCs to train Julan, and it causes an inescapable dialogue where only the sneak skill is present as a skill to train, but it just repeats the question regardless of whether I select training in sneak or the nevermind option.
I know it's the Ebonheart Underworks patch because that problem goes away after deselecting that particular patch in my mod list.
After that, I tried talking to some NPCs in Old Ebonheart from TR, and some dialogues have been switched between Julan and other NPCs. So far, I've seen this affect greeting dialogues and the "Julan Kaushibael" dialogue, the latter of which will cause Julan to basically greet himself. Other dialogue that I've seen so far is unaffected.
huh that's weird! I just learned there's a replacer .esp of Ebonheart Underworks included in the patches of BCOM, are you using that by any chance? Either way I can always just remove that trainer dialogue in the next update - sneak is the only skill that NPC can offer to train anyway lol
as for the issue in Old Ebonheart, the last time someone reported this bug it was because of a version mismatch (that is to say, they had julan v3.0 beta but had version 2.0 patches), so I have no idea why this would only happen in one specific city? does it happen in other TR cities too? if so you might want to double check that you're using the correct version of the patches!
I don't use BCOM, and I have version 2.0 for both Julan and the patch. I didn't bring Julan to any other TR cities before I decided to just remove the patch from my selected mods. I can re-select it and try other TR cities if you need me to.
if you wouldn't mind re-selecting it just to test and see if it happens in other cities, that would be great!! because I'm honestly not sure what's causing these problems since it sounds like you have basically the same setup as I do - is everything ordered the correct way in your load order? the ReadMes for each patch say what order they should be in but I'm pretty sure most of them are like this:
I just tried it again at Firewatch and Helnim. I'm getting the same problems there, though with one exception I've found so far, that being that the NPC Feliwa in Helnim has the correct greeting.
that is so strange! and you double checked the load order right? other than that, you're totally sure that you're not using a replacer version of any of the mods involved, including the KS_Julan Ashlander Companion_2.0.esp itself?
also, do you maybe have any other Julan patches that may be interfering?
Yeah, I made sure the load order was correct and everything. I'm not using a replacer, and the only patches I've tried applying are the ones I mentioned.
sorry I should've clarified haha - "other patches for Julan" as in ones not made by me? or do you have any other dialogue-related mods perhaps? my understanding of why this bug happens is because the game is looking for the ID KS_Julan (since the dialogue lines are assigned to him by ID) and can't find it for some reason so it just defaults to thinking any NPC can say those lines, so I was wondering if maybe some other mod is overriding lines added in my patch somehow or doing something very unexpected like changing his ID or something - it's a stretch but since everything we've tried so far has ended in failure I'm really scratching my head trying to figure out what else could cause something like this lol!
the literal only other thing I can think of to try would be to load my patches as late as possible in your load order - if that doesn't work then idk maybe your local Temple priest of ALMSIVI can bless your machine :')
:''''') well heck, then I think I'm all out of ideas!
would you mind sending me your load order in full? no pressure of course and it can be in a DM if you prefer, in the meantime I'll still be digging through the patches on my end as well to see if there's some really obvious problem that I keep missing!
Here's my load order. Also, on further testing, I noticed that the the NPC Feliwa isn't the exception, but the particular greeting they happened to give, which was "welcome to Helnim" or something like that. Upon speaking to Feliwa again, they gave a different greeting, which was meant to be one of Julan's greetings.
hmmm, well I hate to just toss my hands up and say I can't help you but I think I can't really troubleshoot any further unfortunately! you've got the UMP .esm in your load order but I use MCP, and Kateri strongly recommends using MCP in the recommended mods section of Julan's webpage too- not saying that Julan himself doesn't or can't work with UMP, but apparently MCP fixes bugs that affect how companions work, so it's not unbelievable to me that this could be causing some sort of issue with my patches?
regardless, I can't test it because I've never used UMP before and wouldn't know what to look for (and apparently UMP is not really recommended nowadays anyway according to its comments section, as it hasn't been updated in a while), so I'm very sorry to have inadvertently wasted your time :') I'll still look through the patches on my end as well, but in the meantime I will update the description of my mod page to say that these might be incompatible with UMP users!
while I was googling around trying to figure out what the consensus was on UMP/if it could possibly be causing this bug, it seems as though people generally recommend using MCP along with Patch for Purists? basically MCP fixes engine bugs and stuff while PfP fixes in-game bugs like items and meshes being wrong and whatnot - this combo what I use personally so I can vouch for its stability, though these patches aren't dependent on PfP so much as UMP seems to introduce some bugs which can cause problems?
I read a comment thread on a reddit post (was admittedly from a few years ago, but here's the link anyway if you're curious to read further discussion) that said that PfP is based off of UMP v1.6.3b anyway but fixes/reverts some inadvertent bugs and "questionable" changes that UMP makes (though what these "questionable" changes are, I couldn't tell you because nobody ever explained haha) - I feel like I remember reading somewhere that people think Patch for Purists goes a little too far in some areas, but it's really modular in terms of what patches you can enable, so hopefully it covers everything from UMP!
Another question, are you going to make dialogues for the project cyrodill branch of tamriel rebuilt? :'o It'll be a lot of work however, adding real dialogues for the quests, ect...
tbh I'm not sure! I've been making patches for mods that I use basically as I need them and I don't use project cyrodiil in my game, but also it's not nearly as big as the morrowind mainland is so I assume it wouldn't take as long? so I'm not sure, maybe someday!
either way these patches don't/won't contain "new" dialogue as in newly written dialogue for quests and stuff, it's just location dialogue and faction dialogue and stuff like that! :)

I do want to report an issue, however. Like a user below, I'm getting the following error when booting up my game with the TR plugin ticked:
I am running the most recent version of TR, on an MGEXE setup, if that makes a difference? I am also fairly certain that my load order is correct.
Don't sweat it too much, though... I mean, I'd love to use that plug-in with Julan, because it adds his generic commentary where otherwise he'd have none, but these things can be a PITA to figure out, so I understand if it's something you can't fix.
