I'd love to have a playable Snow Elf race but with Better Bodies and Westly-style heads. It's a shame that mod author never made a Snow Elf race because I'd love to see it someday (I say, hoping to nudge anyone with the knowledge and ability to make this come true ;-P )
Maybe Snow Elf Retexture is more to your liking? I am a Vanilla-aesthetic zealot, so I'm not going to try to make it myself. However, I'll tell you the steps in GIMP to turn the Better Bodies Altmer textures into the equivalent textures for this mod. For each Altmer texture you'll need to do the following two steps in GIMP: HUE 149.8 LIGHTNESS 3 SATURATION -43.12
HUE 0 LIGHTNESS 18,6 SATURATION -25.7
You can create a GIMP preset for each step to speed up the process. You could probably do the same with some Westley Altmer heads, too. Just make sure the meshes/textures match the names of the meshes/textures in this mod and that should do it.
What is GIMP? Is it something you have to pay for? That part's (Textures and Meshes) the bit I'd be most walled by, since I can probably figure out how to "assign body parts" in the CS* (*although the OpenMW CS I have kept crashing whenever I messed with body parts, last I remember, lol...) since it seems like an intuitive pattern to follow.
I actually downloaded the mod you linked but I was unsatisfied with it, so I have actually repurposed Westly's Half Races mod to use the "Stone Elf" assets to be a personalized Snow Elf race (since they look kinda like how I might imagine Snow Elves to look) and figure it'd probably be simplest to find a way to recolor the assets to be more albino-like since, aesthetically, I think it just needs a little color tweak and it's perfect.
I completely respect your preference for the vanilla look and don't wish to impose upon you. I just posted what I said, here (and, I think, a few other Snow Elf related mod pages' Posts sections a long time ago), because I hope that if I ask for it enough, somebody might take notice and feel inspired to do it.
Thank you for telling me about the tool. I don't know how to work it but I think I can figure it out based on what you said about Hue, Lightness, and Saturation. I don't know how to "create a GIMP preset" to speed it up but I'll see if there isn't a button or something for it while I'm using it.
When you open up the "Hue Saturation" tool, there should be a drop-down for presets, with a plus button next to it to add your current settings as a preset. So when I made the body textures for this mod, I made two presets, opened up all the textures, and then did: Load preset 1, OK, load preset 2, OK, overwrite texture (not save, overwrite, the DDS formatting can be finnicky).
I ended up trying to save it as ".dds" and it told me to export it (and I clicked the thing to do that). While I'm doing this, I'm loading up the game to see it goes. So far, I think I might be able to do it--so, again, thank you for telling me how and what to look for.
Right now, I'm trying to make the textures look more albino-like from Westly's Stone Elves and I think by modifying the temperature to be cooler and then increase bightness + contrast I can do this while keeping the distinct color and tones that Westly had for the textures originally. It's pretty cool being able to see this stuff and check in-game to see how it looks! I just hope I don't screw it up lol. I duplicated the texture folder as a precaution.
Thank you, again, for helping me do myself what I've long wanted to see done. I'm surprised how easy it was, and I'll have to consider GIMP for any other uses it might have in recoloring Textures since this'll undoubtedly open a few modding doors for me in the future. Very happy to be able to make my custom Snow Elf race better resemble how I've imagined them. Again, thank you!
Glad to hear it! If you weren't already before, you're now a modder. Since this mod has open perms, feel free to release a "Vanilla-Style Snow Elves - Falmer BB Version" or whatever if you are so compelled.
I've done a lot of personal modding, but I'm too shy to upload anything to the Nexus lol. I didn't use your mod as a base, though, but rather Westly's Half Races, specifically his/her Dark Elf + Woof Elf race, so I'd need his/her permissions, I think, and maybe everybody who contributed to it like whoever made the hairs and all that.
You were very helpful in introducing me to GIMP and giving me pointers on how to use it, though, and I am very thankful for that. :-)
