Q. Is this a cheat? A. good question... Morrowind has magic, with magic almost anything is possible. But yes... some will probably class this as a cheat Me... I say it's just pure magic The same magic used by the guards who know that wooden fork you have was stolen weeks ago and from miles away.
I looked everywhere for a mod to do this... it seems no such mod exists... until now... even though people have been asking for it for years.
There may well be a more elegant way to do it but this way is simple and it just works
Very good idea! Personally I've never seen anything like it, even though I want to steal so badly, it's just the mechanics of the game are very unpleasant in that respect. :(
An idea: To make this thing not cheaty, and if it would be possible to integrate this feature into the game in a lore-friendly way... So somewhere in the game, an NPC, a somebody somewhere, in a place that would correspond to the outlaws' favorite place. Either an existing location in the game, or an existing NPC. An influential person among the outlaws with underworld connections in Morrowind, who can help you clean yourself up or cover your tracks to avoid official lawbreaking. Like a "doyen" in Oblivion's Guild of Thieves or similar. A service provided for money. With a script that could track a portion of the value of stolen items, which would take the value threshold into account, and then jump one step up in the amount to be paid, but not necessary like this way. Or some similar idea. This could be thought of further, but simplified.
This deserves a discussion topic. It has a lot of potential. :)
Would this resolve an issue with "Perfect Placement" where it's not possible to manipulate items that have the "owned" tag? I know that "owned" and "stolen" don't exactly qualify as the same thing in Morrowind, but it's irritating if you clear a location and decide you want to squat there, but can't easily redecorate (without using the console to disable things), because they are "owned." Sorkvild's Tower in Dagon Fel is a good example of what I mean. My current character decided to turn it into a small sleeping space for when she's visiting the area, but she couldn't adjust the way books etc. were placed, because they're still tagged as "owned."
If you can put it in your inventory and use the ring then it will remove the owned flag from what you have... which should allow them to be placed. If you try this then please come back and let us all know
I'll give it a shot tomorrow, maybe. I've just spent the last several hours fighting with my load order...so I'm thinking I'll go play some BG3, maybe, since it's just plug&play (I won't be modding it until updates are totally done)... Seriously, though, I will try it out tomorrow, I just need to clear my head... I'm sure you know what it's like to wrestle with this stuff!
You can always just sell your stolen goods to most merchants, but if you try to sell it back to the person you stole it from they will call the guards on you.
