Version 2.0 released

Since I haven't had time to adapt the mod to automatically calculate taxes based on the player's properties or faction ranks, I've decided to make a small fix so that taxes are calculated based on the character's level. Although I know this system isn't perfect, the player's level usually represents their economic capacity. If you disagree with this change, you can always use previous versions of the mod.

The main changes are:

  • Setting a tax rate based on the player's level: 50, 100, 150, 200, or 250 drakes per level, to be determined by the player. It's enough to determine it only once during the game.

  • Increasing the max deposit amount to 100,000 drakes.

  • Improved notification system so that ONLY in the case that the amount of money in reserve is less than the amount the player has to pay, it will be notified through a pop-up window. This way, it prevents the player from inadvertently facing an exorbitant fine.

Save Compatible, but is recommended to speak with Socucius once installed the new version and review the taxes.

INSTALLING THE NEW VERSION ON PREVIOUS SAVED GAMES REQUIRES PREVIOUSLY DELETING THE MOD, SAVE THE GAME WITH V. 1 OF THE MOD UNINSTALLED AND REINSTALL THE NEW VERSION

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

This mod adds a system that requires you to pay taxes in Morrowind every ten days. I've tried to keep the system as straightforward as possible, making the mod relevant in the game without overwhelming the player. Here's how it works:

  • To start the mod, the player should go to the Census and Excise Office and speak to Socucius Ergalla. A new topic, "Review my taxes," will become available (as shown in the images). Through this topic, the player can role-play declaring their assets, and a specific amount to pay every ten days will be assigned. This amount can be changed at any time.

  • Next, a new topic, "Pay my Taxes," will appear. With this topic, the player can prepay their taxes by leaving them in a deposit with Socucius. Every time ten/thirty in-game days pass (depends on the version you choose), your taxes will be deducted from that deposit. If there isn't enough money, it will be considered unpaid, and the total amount you owed for that ten-day period will be added as a player's bounty, with an additional 25% penalty for non-payment.

  • Three days before the tax due date and during the next two days, a reminder message will appear once per day, stating the approaching deadline, the taxes to be paid, and the amount of money in the deposit. As I mentioned before, on the payment day, the amount is deducted from the deposit you've provided at the Census and Excise Office, or a bounty is added to the player. In both cases, a new message warns of this event.

  • Once the taxes are paid or unpaid, the ten-day counter resets automatically, and the process starts again without the need for the player to visit the Seyda Neen offices. The player only needs to return to provide more funds to Socucius Ergalla before the deposit runs out.

Everything can be seen in the pictures.
Why this mod?

Many times, I've wanted to role-play as a merchant or traveling bard in Morrowind, but as I level up and become richer in the game, things start to lose their fun. Saving money stops making sense, and all I do is spend my money on houses added by mods... and not much else. And when you buy the sixteenth house on the Tamriel Rebuilt Mainland, you realize that money has lost its meaning for your character in the game.

Hopefully, this mod will change that. A high-level PC with maxed-out Mercantile skill and Personality can easily pay 10,000 septims every ten days, but it requires extra effort. Finally, selling every Kagouti Hide you pick up or performing at night in a tavern to earn some septims* makes sense again and becomes fun once more.

This is the first of several mods I have in mind/ready where you can earn and spend septims in large amounts without breaking the game's balance, with the sole purpose of making high-level characters fun to play.

*Personally, I use the great mod "A Bards Life 2" by Danae. I suppose there are few in the community who are not familiar with it, but if there's anyone in that situation, I recommend taking a look at the mod. It's definitely worth it.

Why does this mod only work with OpenMW?

Because apparently, after getting used to modding with the Content Editor only for OpenMW, I'm a completely dysfunctional person when it comes to modding with the Construction Set. Five or six years ago, I knew how to use the Construction Set relatively, but it seems I've completely forgotten how it works. Every time I think I know why my mods don't work in the Vanilla Engine and fix what I see is wrong, a new error appears that I don't know how to fix. And I get tired of wasting time trying to resolve errors instead of modding and playing. It's all my fault, as everyone mods with the Construction Set, but I only have a few free hours a week for modding, and I like to make the most of them.

This specific mod should be compatible with Vanilla, but there's something in the "Pay my Taxes" topic that causes the Vanilla game to freeze every time you try to talk about it. If someone finds a way to fix it, please feel free to port this mod to Vanilla.

Thank you, in any case, to all those who have tried to help me convert my mods, but it seems I'm not good at it xD
