I always thought it was weird how Camonna Tong were just normal people, like you go to Hla Oad "watch out outlander those Camonna tong dont like you" or "if youre camonna tong you get services" "if you X house you get services" but everything was available and generic.

Until I realized alll you need to do is join guilds, you aren't "outlander" until you join the outlander factions because Morrowind doesnt have race-relations like Oblivion, just a +5 for the same race, other than that all NPCs (except for some specifics like dren plantation for example) just go off personality. just talking to Caius and becoming a blade gives you -3 points on any Camonna and Temple. I joined Imperial Cult, did a few quests and got the first promotion from Caius. At rank "acolyte" in the cult and post-skull blade I have 30 disposition on any temple and any tong, with 40 personality, getting called a scum and whatnot

a male non-darkelf non-imperial would be less than 30 disposition at this point easy, maybe even refuse service j

All just from joining the cult and and mandatory blades early game missions

Joining cult, fighters/mages and mandatory early game blades is enough to make every non-hlaalu dark elf dislike you a lot

Joining Thieves guild at this point would make every camonna seriously hate me, but I remember going to dren plantation with no factions and everyone there hating me though

I think this mod only makes sense if you join no outlander factions or else it would mess everything up

Yes, that's exactly how it works. But you're describing a perfect storm scenario. Low level of personality (40), joining exclusively imperial guilds at the start. Yes, in this case the Telvanni and Kamonna Tong will not be very happy with you. However, as soon as something goes wrong (joining a mixed guild), a high level of personality and everyone loves you with boundless love. And since the game involves going through almost all the guilds according to the scenario, this mod slightly limits the explosive growth of the disposition level.

Sorry, I'm new to Morrowind modding. How do I properly install this thing? I have it last in my load order and enabled in MO2, but everyone's disposition is always 0 no matter what, and I found no entry in the modconfig menu where I could choose a preset.

Each preset is a separate mod (there are four in the folder). Select the one you need based on the description and connect only it, you can delete the rest.

Made a culturally Ashlander (with this mod) Azura-worshiping (with this mod) Dunmer mage. Holy s#*! it's like I'm really Azura in those twitter comics.

I really didn’t understand anything, but I’m glad if this modification gave you new emotions. I myself was surprised that something like this was not posted before me.

I mean those Gamer Girl Azura comics where Azura is a smelly femcel who everyone seems to vaguely hate.

Even just using the Base version of this mod with those others I mentioned, it's basically like that with my character's 35 personality points lmao

lovely mod! i like the meaner atmosphere

to some degree the hostility in morrowind felt overplayed; like "everyone's racist and xenophobic" but... well, it wasn't ever too hard to get them to like you (or just liking you by default)
i feel it makes more sense, besides showing off some content you otherwise don't see (with your Voice Overhaul, for example)

it does lead to some funky inconsistencies, such as people not wanting to tell me little secrets or latest rumors but then giving out a little advice (that isn't, like, "get lost"); and even with the hostilities towards my orc, well, you'd think people would volunteer info abt -- say -- their missing pilgrim friend when you arrive in legion uniform to help

it's not a dealbreaker (and, if anything, would be something handled by a dialogue system overhaul or something, not this mod) but does raise an eyebrow every now and then

life is rough for my stinky orc battlemage, who has the social graces of a lump of coal! hehe

What preset did you choose for the game? Yes, unfortunately most of the dialogues are not adapted to the low level of disposition. This will really be noticeable at the Hard level and below. But the atmosphere of hatred is worth it)

Hard to tell. Depends on the roleplay. I planned the Hard preset to be quite playable. The main thing is to take care of your personality)

This is a nice idea, but after playing with the mod for a few days (Base.esp) I think it should probably be slightly less punishing. As others have said, while the Dunmer are xenophobic - though a good case could be made for races such as the Altmer etc. - this doesn't mean that they are obsessed with it. Also, consider alternate start mods and provinces like SHOTN or Province Cyrodiil, and you will see how this will quickly become problematic.

Lastly, joining Factions will complicate things. For instance, by merely joining Imperial Factions, the Dunmer ones will dislike you tremendously, perhaps irrationally so.

My suggestion is a version in which 30 Personality points means 30 Disposition points, while 100 means 60 Disposition or perhaps slightly more.

First of all, this is a mod for Morrowind. The player in the base game is an outlander and former criminal who joins a closed alien society. If an alternative start is planned by the son of a Dunmer lord, it does not make sense.
If we still consider the base game - the opposing outlander joining the imperial guilds is a symbol of the destruction of traditional culture and ways. It's okay to be hated. The game even has special voice lines, for such cases when they tell you that you are risking your head by coming to this place. Of course, no one heard them, because without this mod it is impossible to fulfill the conditions for their appearance.
And finally, you should still remember that this is a traditional RPG game, where the parameters of the character decide everything. You have 30 speed - you can barely run. You have 30 strength - you hit weakly and cannot carry weights. And if you have 30 personality - you're just ugly, you don't speak well and no one wants to communicate with you. It must piss you off, and you must give up strength, intelligence, or other combat-important attributes in order to communicate normally. But in vanilla, pesronality is a poorly implemented attribute, and you yourself will explain why in your own words. It is simply too difficult for a player to be unattractive, and the developers have made this moment much easier. (in the basic preset, 60 dispositions just give 100 personality points, you just don’t want to pump it)
I did however add a light preset that gives 5 dispositions less than vanilla for global mods players.

Firstly, thank you for the light.esp, though I have to say that adding the word casual there was a bit unnecessary:) For my part, I have been playing Morrowind for 20 years now, with a ton of hardcore mods (including only adding +1 attribute per level), as well as Dead is Dead rules. Yes, +1 attribute, because I believe anything above makes the game far too easy and was simply Bethesda's way to say "look, the Nerevarine is special, the gods themselves assist him with up to +5 multipliers per level".

Now, don't get me wrong, I appreciate your work on the mod, so take my previous message and the following merely as constructive criticism:

My issue was that the mod has a somewhat too general approach. Ok, you canonically start as someone from prison, but this does not mean that everyone and his dog would know about it - you don't have a tattoo on your forehead. And your clothes? Well, you can just...buy exquisite ones, have a bath, and no one will be the wiser. This is why I believe a plugin where personality simply has less of an effect from minimum to maximum is more realistic rather than the more extreme versions.

Personality represents a general commentary on the nature of each of the races in Tamriel, not of the player character itself - 1. Argonians are more secretive and unpopular, 2. Bretons are more expansive and liked. These are in themselves enough to simulate the different types of interactions quite well. In fact, I had head the "you risk your neck coming here" line many, many times simply because I was part of an opposing faction. Try going to Telvanni areas when you are a member of the Blades and Mages Guild and speak to any of their Nord mercenaries and you will see what you mean. And so on for other factions.

In fact, if every NPC in the world would be part of a faction (openly or under the hood), it would make some personality dynamics more interesting (a la Daggerfall, where peasants, nobles, and rogues were differentiated in their potential relationship to the player).

Ok, I figured it out - setting the disposition fDispPersonalityBase at 70 did exactly what I wanted. With a starting personality of 30 you get 30 disposition points, while at 100 you get 65.

Thank you for your comments, it seems that this is really the best option for the light version. Just download the mod again, it contains the desired changes.

I've always liked the idea of making NPCs really hostile to the player, especially in the early stages. And if you are interested in how you can make the disposition more dependent on race, then there is already a Racism mod in this compilation: https://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/45674
All that remains is to enter your numbers in fDispRaceMod ;)

Is there a way to make a version of this mod that only affects the Dunmer? Or maybe behaves like Oblivion where different races have different opinions on you? This mod is almost perfect, but it's immersion-breaking when even other outlanders seem to hate me for no reason.

I'll try to do this over time, but it's much more difficult to implement. Although I still think that the game should punish the low level of personality.

I'm really enjoying the immersion provided by this mod.  But an odd thing I noticed is that the game isn't holding my disposition gains through persuasion or after bartering.  Would this mod conflict with the OpenMW/MCP setting that makes barter disposition gains persistent?

I think something is wrong with your mod list. I just tested on OpenMW 0.48 (spring build) and everything works fine. This simple GMST mod is unable to cause any problems. You can turn it off and on at any time during the game, it's safe.

This is very nice, but having things like race being taken into account would be amazing. LIke most Dunmer disliking you if you play as an Argonian for example and more likely less dispositions with most Dunmer in general. Also races that are rare on Morrowind would probably get have bigger disposition bonus when seeing another member of their kin etc.

Made a mod request here: https://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/11600548-racism-mod/

As discussed below, this is a good idea for a new mod, maybe I'll implement it over time, but right now all the efforts are directed to the Voice Overhaul. Manually editing the disposition of 3000+ NPCs is no joke. Personally, I find the base preset to work well on its own. Also, don't forget that NPCs of the same race as you have a bonus of 5 disposition points.
