Lovely mod, eager to try it! Just FYI Released 48 OpenMW doesn't like the instructed settings.cfg edit:

    # invalid setting: normal map pattern = _NORM
    # invalid setting: specular map pattern = _SPEC

These are really damn good. They look professional level for that era.

Is there any way to change the file endings from _NORM to _n? This is the best normal map mod I have found so far but it doesn't support many mods and every other normal map mod uses _n.

you can download a program off of the internet called "renamer-7.3" wich alllows you to batch rename. you could by theory change all the files name extensions to _n then change the openmw config file setting to use _n. here is a link for that program https://www.den4b.com/downloads/renamer. you would have to do the same for the _SPEC extension names too.

If you are on Linux or have a compatible command-line, you can also just use rename in the textures folder:
      rename 's/_SPEC/_spec/' *.dds
      rename 's/_NORM/_n/' *.dds

Is there a specific reason for not using the _spec and _n suffixes? Otherwise in future releases it would be nice if the normal maps would conform with the naming convention OpenMW and other mods use.

    Hi there,
Thank you for your interest in our prize draw with Republic of Gamers. I have noticed that your mod has been entered into the Themed Mod category but does not appear to feature any kind of ROG theme. I have removed the tag for the themed modding category from your page.

If you feel this is a mistake, please consider updating your description or images to show the themed content and re-adding the tag.
You can read more about the entry criteria in the article linked above. Mods that do not feature any themed content will be disqualified before the final draw is made.
This does not prevent you from entering the main draw with the "20 Years of Modding 2021" tag.

Does this work well with any of the upscaled vanilla textures like IT or MET etc.?

no because these are low res and wont scale properly with upscaled textures. sorry.

Why not? If you load this mod after IT, it will downscale some IT textures to lower res (but not all). So other than the visual inconsistency in resolution it should be fine, right?

It doesn't work because, the upscaled textures are bigger than the resolution of the vanilla textures. And the normal and spec maps I have made will be unalligned or off centre, due to being lower res. but you can give it a shot if you want. :D im just speaking from past experince XD

Hmm. Shouldn't lower res normal maps be fine? (don’t know about spec maps) but I’ll just try it out. :)

So, theoretically, if one were to upscale these normals to match one of the other vanilla upscaling mods it could work (with obvious artifacts), might give it a go tho

Oh and quick question, I'm assuming that files ending in _NORM work with openmw now? Its been _n in the past.

You change the suffix names in the settings.cfg file in your my games/openmw folder. To the ones I have provided. And that upscale technique would work, but would probably look weird.

Looks amazing, like it was always meant to be like this. Could you do the same for Doors of Oblivion mod? It's a lot of effort, but the mod lacks good normal mapping so bad.

Great work! This really captures the vanilla+ feel I'm going for on my install. Tried a few other normal map mods today (with vanilla textures) and yours definitely wins out.
Hope this mod gets the recognition it deserves with the OpenMW .47 stable release, you already have my endorsement :)

Edit: been playing around for about 4 hours with the texture pack installed so far, and it looks absolutely fantastic. Balmora walls finally look like they're made of mud (or bone?) and the rocks around the mountains look fantastic when the sun starts to go down.
You've made a must-have mod for purist OpenMW players my friend.

Thank you so much mate you don't know how much that means. Its still in beta phase at the moment. So some texture might be too bumpy or to shiny ect. If you find any could you email me screenshots via nexus? I will list you as a top fan to in the description too. I will have to do that when I get home from work.

This is exactly what I was looking for, as someone else said, this is perfect for a vanilla plus "Morrowind Remastered" mod list, making the game look pretty without losing its original charm and aesthetics.

    Fantastic mod, great work!
