Hmmm, I'm still unsure. I unpacked all magic icons and have now big ones (prefix b_tx_s_*) and small ones (prefix tx_s_*). In the BSA-file they were already packed in 'Data Files\Icons\s'...

With or without UI Expansion Patch, doesn't matter. Icons are still big...
I tested again two times with 'UI Expansion Patch'. Both times CTD. I also tested two times WITHOUT 'UI Expansion Patch'. Both times NO Crash! Also, NO 'unhandled exception' error...
For me it's still crashing in longer dungeons with major battles, even the newest version. Maybe it's a setting in UI Expansion? I set 'magic menu component' and 'magic select menu component' to 'off'...
Hmm when i use the menumagic.lua patch from this mod and place it in the Morrowind\Data Files\MWSE\mods\UI Expansion path it restore the save/load menu to default and removes the search function and spell school filter, when i don't use the patch and revert back to the ui expansion menumagic.lua i get the search and spell school filter, plus a bunch of little icons down the left side https://i.imgur.com/0NuXrtI.jpg, cool mod, i'll try and figure it out

:D
Edit:
Well, it just crashed again without 'UI Expansion Patch'. But it was a combat save. Maybe another problem.
Edit 2:
Without your mod everything runs stable again...

the latest version of UI Expansion is not compatible even with the patch
