Aquatic Argonians v1.1

Created by RogiVagel

Purpose
To grant Argonians the aquatic nature attributed to them in lore.

Changes made by the mod
Argonian breathing spell altered to an ability to give constant effect Water Breathing and Swift Swim (50 points).

Why this mod?
This is not the first mod to change Argonians in this way.
Let's face it, making this change is so simple it takes about 2 minutes of modding time.
"BUT WHAT ABOUT THE PUZZLE CANAL?" do I hear you ask.
At least you will if you know Morrowind well.
You have to drown yourself to complete it.
Now your Argonian can't complete this quest - at least not without creating some other artificiesal way to damage him/her self.
Other mods makers have suggested creating a spell or magic item set to damage yourself at a Spellmaker/Enchanter.
This will work, but quite a bit of extra effort for the player and hardly fits with the spirit of the quest.

This mod provides a solution to this problem which will enable Argonian pilgrims to experience the quest in full.
Your Argonian will feel included rather than discriminated against by the creators of the puzzle canal.

I have placed a scripted "Argonian Puzzle Ring" on top of the Puzzle Canal Message 'Shrine' in the Puzzle Canal Center.
A non-Argonian cannot pick this ring up. Try it if you like, you just can't.
If an Argonian wears the ring, it will remove their aquatic abilities while the ring is worn. They return when it is removed.
The ring cannot be removed from the Puzzle Canal Center - it vanishes from your inventory and returns to where it came from when you leave - ready for the next Argonian pilgrim.
(Exception: - if you are still wearing the ring when you leave the cell, the ring stays with you until you remove it, when it will vanish. I couldn't avoid this without crashing the game).

"Can I use this for my existing Argonian Character?"
Yes - but it will require a little tweak and comes with a warning.
Always remember to keep a back-up of the save game in case something doesn't work with your game setup or you decide you don't like the change.

**WARNING**
If you use this on an existing argonian character saved game, you will not be able to use that save without this mod EVER once you save it - unless you want to play without any Argonian breathing ability.
Once a racial (or birthsign) ability has been removed, you cannot replace it - even with the console.
This mod gets around that restriction by using a duplicate ability that replaces it.
The only way to restore the argonian breathing ability would be use another mod that adds a 'argonian breathing2' spell or simlar duplicate ability and add to the character through the console.

Method:
Set this mod active and load up your character.
You will notice your argonian Water Breathing spell is now absent from your Spell List.
Open the Console and enter the following (precisely):

player->AddSpell "argonian breathing2"

Close the Console
Your Argonian can now enjoy those constant effect abilites!

Alternative Method:
Set the mod active and load up your character.
Travel to Vivec and find your way to the Puzzle Canal Center. [or use 'CenterOnCell, "Vivec, Puzzle Canal, Center"' in the console]
Find the Argonian Puzzle Ring.
Equip the ring, then take it off again.
Your Argonian will now have the constant effect abilities.

Known Conflicts
I can't think of anything that would stop this mod working other than a name clash with new spells/items, but you never know with Morrowind and its various versions.

Version History
v1.0 - worked fine, but I've learned a bit more since then.
v1.1 - improved script to prevent non-Argonians accessing ring and including addressing the possibility of adding the ring through the console, which can cause some undesirable behaviour.

I couldn't have done this without Gahn-Buri-Ghan's 'Scripting for Dummies'
