Just wanted to share a little something I thought of that compliments this mod beautifully, for anyone interested. You don't have to choose between playing the game with or without music to get the most out of this mod; you can have both! Create some silent MP3s of varying lengths and put them in the Explore folder to help the music feel a little more dynamic and give AURA time to shine.
The easiest way is to use Audacity. Go up to "Generate" and select "Silence". Specify how long you want it to be, then go to "File->Export->as MP3". Select Medium (lowest) quality to save on space, save and OK. Use a number of silent tracks that you feel is appropriate for how many Explore tracks you have.
As an example setup, I have 100 tracks in Explore and created 5 different silent tracks for 1-5 minutes. I copied them all four times for a total of 25 silent tracks. This gives the game ample opportunity to use them, potentially several lengths in a row for added variety.
The overall effect it has is great and I highly recommend it!
Is there a way to permanently raise the volume of the sounds? I feel like they're too quiet, and adjusting the volume by using CTRL+V seems to apply for the current location only, so if i enter an interior cell or load a game, it gets reset.
For some reason, the loud sound for exterior rain kept playing as I entered an interior during it and wouldn't stop even after changing cells to a different region with clear weather. Any idea what could cause that to happen? The volume control menu didn't mention the sound after I coc'd into Ald'Ruhn, so I'm not sure why this is a problem for me.
Hello, there is this high pitched chirping sound that plays when it gets late (at least I think it is from this mod) it is incredibly annoying, if I upload a clip of the sound can you tell me what file it is so I can remove it from my game?
If you have the variable rain sounds option enabled then you can adjust rain volume in-game by opening AURA volume adjuster menu (Shift+V).
Also using the volume adjuster menu you can identify track names currently played by AURA. Just set the slider to 0 and see if the unwanted sound goes away. Otherwise, sure upload a sample.
gra ss 2 is one of the culprits, Edit: THIS FILE NEEDS TO BE REPLACED for those that want the sound removed located at this direction: /Data Files/Sound/tew/A/C/gra/ss/2.wav (I also find 3 a bit repetitive as well)
Since it is prolly a matter of "taste" I heartily recommend a lot of people to replace this 2.wav with a similar one from the ones around it , clone 1.wav or 3 4 5 or 6 wave and rename it 2.wav or use a much soothing, audio normalized one without such a bad repetitive drone that causes tinnitus.
Edit: Tew has kept some of the old sounds of older versions of aura up as well, you can mix and match those with no issues. The sounds from AURA version 2 can be added into the folders of Aura version 5 replacing the ones you dont like much, thats over 500megs of audio bliss extras, so you can do a mix and match if you find some sounds not to your likin. Thanks again to tew for this wonderful mod, makes Morrowind play on another level :D
Even better I have used some of your older sound files from previous versions of AURA, I really like some of the sounds, they are bliss to the ears, just less than a handful are bad, but thats the great thing about AURA, you can replace or move some of the wavs no problem.
Love your mod btw! Its just that when I play I turn off the lights, turn off any kind of weird sound making devices, phones, tvs, etc and try to go full escapism, so I try to fine tune my audio experience :)
Hope you can keep making and improving Aura my friend! It is awesome!
Does anyone happen to know what the name of the panting sound effect is? I have the pc sound effects turned off but its still playing and driving me mad.
EDIT: I found them, I think
EDIT: Welp, I deleted the sound file and the character is still panting.
I don't have any other mods that edit sound does vanilla have panting? I had to mute the entire effects sound to get rid of it which sucks since that gets rid of every sound in the game.
With AURA, go to the Mod Config menu, select the PC tab (it's between Service Voices and Containers) and make sure "Enable low fatigue sounds?" is set to "No". You can also adjust the volume of all health-related sounds together, although the fatigue panting seems proportionally louder than the other sounds in that category, to me.
Alternately, you can go into the mod files under Sound/tew/A/PC and Sound/Vo/tew/A/PC and overwrite fatigue_f.wav and fatigue_m.wav with something that's more to your liking, e.g. silent .wav files or a different sound.
I am not sure if the original game had those sounds or this kind of granularity in adjusting them; the files in Morrowind/Data Files/Sound/Vo are labeled in a way I don't fully understand.
Yea I replaced them with the silence file, and I did have the pc sounds turned off but all of a sudden I started hearing the panting. Its all very confusing because it should literally be impossible.
Out of me checking every single wav file, is there a list of where in each directory is the type of sound aura produces?
There is a very shar repeating sound, , its supposed to be a cicada?
This is the kind of sound I like if you want to add them as well, they are soothing and relaxing and remind me of calm afternoons and sunsets in my old home town
I'm not sure that this is specifically relevant to this mod, but is there any way to stop speech and UI effects from muting the ambient volume? I find it really jarring how every time an NPC says something or I click on something that makes a noise - e.g. menu options and UI buttons - the lovely ambience suddenly falls almost silent and then slooowly creeps back up to normal volume again. I don't even recall that being a thing the last time I played MW...
Could be, although it's weird that it doesn't happen in other games and I can't recall ever touching any game-specific sound options. *sigh* Frigging Windows, here I go setting delving again...
Okay, so after a lot of digging and cursing and chugging coffee, it turned out some recent Windows update had re-installed Realtek sound drivers in place of the generic ones that I manually installed long ago for this exact reason. WTF mate.
Anyway, just wanted to post again to say you were right, and thank you for the awesome mod!
This mod is simply stunning. Paired with Impact Sounds, this gives the aural atmosphere of the game an enormous facelift. Thankyou so much for uploading!
1) Download and extract the archive (you'll need 7-Zip for that since Windows can't open .7z archives on its own). 2) Open the "00 Core" folder and move all the files and folders it contains into your Morrowind installation's "Data Files" folder. 3) If you want to replace some vanilla sounds with new and improved versions, also do the same with the "01 Replacer" folder, moving everything from it to your "Data Files". 4) If you use the Passage of Prayers mod, also do the same to everything in the "02 Prayer wheel sound replacer" folder. 5) If you use the Animated Morrowind mod, also do the same to everything in the "03 Animated Morrowind Music Replacer" folder.
Done!
Or just use the mod manager of your choice, it will automate most of this (some fiddling may be required, depending on which manager you use) and, even more importantly, will make uninstallation significantly less painful.
PS. When the mod description says "This mod requires MWSE-Lua (and thus will not work in OpenMW). Install first using MGE XE and run the updater", it just means that installing MGE XE automatically installs MWSE for you, but you should still run the MWSE updater - MWSE-Update.exe, found in your main Morrowind folder - now and then to keep it up to date, at least every time you install or update any mods that use MWSE.
Sea sounds are at least 50% too loud and not adjustable in in-game tool. Also, because its so loud, when the sound ends, and it ends 10 meters from the shore, the effect is even weirder.
Water layer volume scales automatically depending on how far away you are from the water body. This is vanilla engine behavior. AURA replacer is less jarring than the vanilla sound but if you're still not satisfied with it you could open watr_wave.wav in a sound editor (like Audacity) and use amplify to increase or decrease its volume, make sure you export it back to .wav 22050 kHz, 16-bit mono and voila.

Also rain is INCREDIBLY loud 0-0
