Does this mod - Tamriel Rebuilt Unfinished Distant Lands - serve as a replacement for all the hassle with TR preview file creation? Will Preview Warning work here?

That mod suggests to use TR_Preview only with Distant Land and not actually enabling the plugin in the load order. That would mean that when getting near the edge of the official landmass, the preview land would disappear as it doesn't actually exist in the game. I don't know how exactly this mod works, but if the message appears when you enter a preview cell, it would be too late because you would already have fallen off the map. However, only using the distant land and not the plugins themselves, this will at least prevent errors due to incompatible scripts and dialogue with newer versions of TR.

That mod is an unauthorized release of TR files, so I can't endorse it.

I'm having a little trouble understanding the instructions regarding the Firemoth content. When i'd originally installed the mod, I'd gotten a seperate TR_Firemoth file from the github. When using it, even with load order sorted and shuffled, I still get a missing square right under firemoth at the mouth of that river. This has bugged me, as I use boat mods and would like acess to this river. Anyways, I decided to update my files now in hopes to remedy this and see, reading closer, that Firemoth may be included with the TR_Mainland file? I've got the most current releases, but I seem to be missing something. Running all parts except TR_Firemoth results in that missing square filled in, but no Firemoth Islands. Throwing TR_Firemoth plugin back in the mix, I get the same results from before - Firemoth, but a missing square right below it. Any help or guidance would be very much appreciated from anyone who's encountered this! I'd like to use the TR version of the Firemoth content for sure.

Edit: I'm now getting a second missing square to the left of Firemoth. I didn't think it would apply, but using the included "Vanilla Firemoth" patch does nothing.

Second square to the left fixed by moving the TR_Restexteriors file lower than Firemoth.

Okay, I managed to work it out. Leaving this here in case anyone has the same problem. TR_Mainland has to be under Firemoth and Restexteriors. If anyone has any specific load order suggestions that would be appreciated. I'd moved those three and the preview warning down towards the bottom, but having trouble with the dependencies now.

Final Edit: It was a conflict with clean waters of morrowind! Either remove the dependency to TR_Mainland in Wyre so it can load before it, or use the non TR version!

Also, you don't want to load Siege at Firemoth at all with Tamriel Rebuilt, unless you also use the Firemoth Remover patch. TR has fully replaced it with its own version.

TR_Preview deprecation and it's consequences have been a disaster for my modding experience.

I'm pondering whether I should install TR at all considering how ugly it looks being cut off in the middle like that and how much of a hassle it seems to create your own preview. Guess I'll have to wait for the full map release in like 20 years, heh, what a waste.

I'm sorry about the change affecting you negatively. I hope you give TR a try, as it has enough content to keep you busy for years, not joking (it almost triples the number of quests in the game as of the Grasping Fortune release). My suggestion is to ignore the map as much as possible, since playing the game as usual won't lead you toward the border that often. If you download one file, my suggestion is RestExterior, as it will cover a lot of areas and won't cause any bugs due to not having any content.

The files to get this somewhat correct are rather precise as the current TR_RestExterior files no longer incorporates the TR_Preview landmass and thus the map can't get filled out like it once could. Trying to edit the original TR_Preview in the construction set results in a crash. But, there is some hope.

To fully fill-out the redoran and Almalexia areas you should download TR_RestExterior 07-08-2021 from here: https://www.tamriel-rebuilt.org/releasefiles/trrestexterior-4274 (This is the only file available, newer versions from 2022 and 2023 seem to have been removed).

You will find a missing area to the west of Firemoth as pointed out below by bryan22ec, this can be remedied by downloading TR_Kartur_v0020 from here: https://www.tamriel-rebuilt.org/releasefiles/kartur-and-verarchen-section-4272

TR_RestExteriori is from 2021 but I haven't noticed any substantial issues after coc'ing to a few places (Probably because by this point Dominions of Dust was nearing completion and TR_RestExterior did not contain any overlapping/conflicting zones, but of course use at your own risk and keep in mind that as further updates to TR are made, this file will continue to be more and more broken and unusable)

I agree with OsakaFlade it's pretty annoying that you have to do this just to get a visible map of all of Morrowind, but it's somewhat understandable considering how buggy and dated these areas are. But I just want to be able to walk past almalexia without falling through the world!

I've updated the list of section files, and it includes RestExteriors again. The status of that file has been off and on, which I believe is why I removed it for the last year or two.

As far as TR_Preview not existing, it's definitely not convenient, but for the people who are willing to put in a little work to get these release files set up, the beta testing they do is actually relevant to the devs. With the old TR_Preview, TR received lots of bug reports that were fixed a year or two before. And it also speeds up the release process.

How do I fix these two parts here? I've downloaded all the necessary exteriors, is there a specific load order I have to use?

That's blank for me too. I think that may be one of the areas getting re-worked that aren't stable for a playthrough. I would like to know how you got that square right under firemoth at the mouth of that river to show.

To clarify what this is for anyone reading the comments section, these are active in-development claims. The only way to download them is to become a Tamriel Rebuilt developer. It's usually not worth downloading them anyway because of how messy they are in various stages of progress.

Many thanks for this mod.  Any chance someone could give a step-by-step for installing the TR Addon though please ..

Do I install the entire thing or just the resources, as someone previously suggested?

Specifically, should I use the Tamriel_Data.esm (so replacing the one from the latest official release), TD_Deprecated - replace me! plugin and metadata file which it also contains?

    Many thanks for any guidance!

You should replace the esm file too, or you may run into errors. I don't know what the deprecated plugin is, but I'm guessing it's everything going into the Graveyard mod for the next release. Metadata should not be needed.

I like to use GitHub Desktop and Mod Organizer 2 so that I can update the data in one click.

Anyone know if the latest restexterior file will break the latest release? Or should I just take AME to it and the other preview files and remove anything that isn't landscape stuff?

As far as I can tell, there is no RestExterior file anymore. The section file page has no files listed. It makes sense because of how far along the in-dev work is now. All the old Velothis exteriors don't match up at all anymore.

Yeah, that's why I'm concerned. The latest file is from February '23, here: https://www.tamriel-rebuilt.org/releasefiles/trrestexterior-4274

I honestly don't mind the border cells not matching, I just want it for distant terrain, so I don't end up looking out into a hole in the world.

The best you are going to get at this point is to take the old file and cut out the cells that are now in the section files using the ESP QuickEditor. The devs are not cutting it out anymore. You can use the latest claims map to decide which cells to keep.

As you said, you can also clear all records except landscape and then load RestExterior first, before anything else.

I actually decided to take a look at the map without the release TR_Mainland loaded and it actually looks like it doesn't cover anything in that file, so cutting out cells might not be necessary (though I could be wrong about that). It only covers the northwestern branch, from where the Andothren region ends, and the expanse south of (and including) Almalexia. There's a few errant cells in the southwest, as well, but loading before section files should fix those.

I've learned that QuickEditor is confusing as hell and AME doesn't list cell grid placements. Folks working on this gotta have some real patience to keep with it, real respect.

Would it be possible to replace the message with an invisible wall or possibly make it a static message that remains on the screen until you leave the preview lands?

I'm not convinced either idea would be appropriate for this mod. Invisible walls is entirely different, not a warning, and static warnings are not possible, only a repeated message that would look like spam.

That's caused by firemoth section incompatibilities

Just noticed this as I was updating mods. I don't know why the original preview file was removed as it made things far less cumbersome for one's load order, if you just wanted to avoid there being a giant hole in the landscape if you're running distant lands at least. Oh well, thanks for the detailed instructions and the mod.
