How to install it? There's just a .lua file and no .omwscript or anything like that so I use MO2 and OpenMW. Installed it it MO, it's greyed out. While in my omw cfg file there are no .lua records, I added the content and data lines. I opened OMW launcher and it doesn't show .lua files at all. Have I installed it correctly?
MWSE Lua mods aren't compatible with OpenMW. Even though OpenMW currently has some lua support, it lacks the entire suite of functions to make it work without a full rewrite/rebuild. This goes for most, if not all, MWSE mods currently available on Nexus.
It's true that the mod doesn't work as advertised. The description can simply be changed.
I personally think this is the superior implementation because I dislike the game getting harder just because my character gets better. It is also superior to HotFusion's Economy Adjuster in that it takes into account the NPC's mercantile skill as opposed to their level, with ensures some correspondance with the vanilla game (Economy Adjuster would make Arrille far too punishing to new players, while this mod makes Ra'Virr and Arrille even, for instance).
I also advise people using mods that nerf item prices (most importantly of top tier equipment like Glass, Ebony, or Daedric) to abstain from using this mod in conjunction with Harder Barter, since Harder Barter will already make those less valuable items even less valuable because of how its formula for selling prices works.
All in all Harder Merchants is THE straight up improvement from the vanilla merchant system. I very much recommend it!
You say: merchant's mercantile skill to grow as the player increases in level But I think the equation sets the merchant's mercantile skill to 25 + 2*(Merchant's Base Mercantile Skill)
I tested it on Arrille and his Merc goes up from 40 to 105, or if I reduce his Merc first to 30 it goes to 85.
True, the character level is not taken into account at all. Arrille is supposed to have 20 mercantile (you seem to have a mod that changes it to 40), so he ends up with 65 for me, and it's always the same. It's like that for every other NPC as well, if he has 10 mercantile he gets 45, if he has 30, he gets 85.
Take it up with Greatness 7, he wrote the code. I merely salvaged it from being lost in discord. Mod is as is - I don't have the know-how to add to it.
Any chance of an optional addon for adding merchant skills and disposition mechanics to Creeper and the Mudcrab? Those have been sorely missing since 2002.
