Hi MD - Just thought I would put in a little note here; Updated to the latest version and whenever Gizmo forages, he sometimes does so about eight feet off the ground. Not sure if that is because I updated mid-game or whatnot, but thought you might like to know. Other features seem to work fine so far. Will keep you updated!
Fantastic mod that is a ton of fun. I can't decide if Gizmo is more of a companion, pet, or adventuring swiss army knife. He does so many useful things. Definitely will be at my side for the foreseeable future. There are 2 small bits of polish that I think Gizmo might benefit from. The first is some sort of teleportation amulet (guarporter?). Despite your veteran coding prowess, I often play like a spastic monkey on meth, so I do lose Gizmo from time to time. The second is some dialog choices have no way to exit/cancel out of. The Magicka dump is especially painful if I click it with full management and no soulgem, as I have to pick one of those options.
One last question. I am probably way overthinking here, but I am fascinated by Gizmo's foraging. I've worked with animals for the better part of 20 years, and Gizmo forages very much like an actual animal. Is this some scripting sorcery you did?
I'm glad you're enjoying playing with Gizmo! Your suggestions directly inspired the 1.2.0 update. In case you don't want to start a new game, I think it should be safe to update mid-game. I'd suggest backing up your save first just to be safe and cleaning with Wrye Mash after updating. Normally, you'll get the new "pet whistle" item when you first meet Gizmo, but if you're updating mid-game, you can add it to your inventory with the following command: `player->additem "mdFG_key_02" 1`
Thanks for the suggestions and have fun playing!
Oh, and on foraging: I don't want to pull back the curtain too much, but Gizmo does wander around and have a random chance of finding some tasty morsels that I thought would simulate real life animals pretty well. I'm glad you think I accomplished it! I really like that feature.
Is your MWSE up to date? I just tested this and confirmed that I can still revive Gizmo. Is it possible that you captured a modded guar? It actually needs to be either the vanilla guar or guar_feral IDs.
ill try with other guars lol if i find.reviving process goes and gizmo can be seen for a moment but matrix form comes after that and souls used is in my inventory. Hmm ive 5 wild guar souls and now it worked,im using some mods but finding the "original" guar takes some time.by the way reviving process doesnt take soul game its still in my inventory.thx for the answer
Just wanted to Endorse for how well made he is, sadly personally don't like him since hearing clank clank clank 24/7 is hea.... it even louder then Rex >_> who dared to be a annoying "brain dead" replacement for meat. And while metal makes more noise then meat like rex it just doesn't sound good imo. (Honestly 100% understand and fine with it be odd if it didn't make the noise with its heavy body especially just no thanks :D ).
What causes him to produce the auto-repair and adv auto-repair "potions"? He was producing them at one point in my game and is no longer doing so thus I am curious what caused him to do it in the first place, what the script is called and where I would find it so I can attempt to troubleshoot
Those potions shouldn't ever be available to the player to loot from Gizmo. They're just used in his [Reward] dialogue topic to heal him when you feed him. If you managed to acquire some, the dialogue conditions to add the potion and then equip them probably just didn't fire properly.
Well that makes more sense, hehe - I had not noticed him healing much when the potions were being produced but he is healing now that they are not. The weird thing is he was producing them even when I did not feed him, which is why I thought it must be a script of some sort. I was considering going in and editing them to be a little less awe inspiring.
I have no idea what caused the potions to be produced instead of being used and I am equally ignorant of what I could have done to fix it - it seemed rather spontaneous.
I can tell you that I am VERY good at "breaking" programs - so good that my developers at work consider it an incredible feat to produce a program that I cannot break. I am their main guinea pig since the assumption is if I can't break it, no one can
Really cute little guy you created here. Dialogue is fabulous on him. I am thoroughly enjoying this mod
Thank you! I'm glad you're enjoying the mod. I'll dig into the functionality of the feeding/healing a bit more. Could be that the potion isn't always consumed by Gizmo or something.
Okay... that was embarrassing, I enabled it, but have been having the problem described by Gnollsy, and am unsure what to do . I don't know how to install the MWSE component to gizmo. Google didn't help. While I had him it was a wonderful mod.
Have you updated to the latest version of MWSE? Send me your MWSE.log file after you update and encounter the issue and I can see if anything is cropping up,
I've been loving Gizmo, but lately when I've been detangling him from his matrix form, we've struck a problem. A red outline of a circle appears on the ground where the matrix was, the screen goes black for a second as the noise plays, and when I regain consciousness the matrix is gone and Gizmo is lost to the ages. I've tried summoning him in a few different locations, duplicating the matrix, and then I ran out of ideas. Have I stuffed something up? Would love to have the friend back.
This may be a tough one to diagnose. The matrix form was definitely one of the trickier features.
Before you activate the matrix and afterwards, type "show mdFG_global_matrixform" in the console. It should be "1" beforehand and change to "0" afterwards. Also check "show mdFG_global_new" before and afterwards (should be 1 afterwards). And send me your "MWSE.log" which is generated in your Morrowind directory so that I can check it for errors - send it after you have tried to use the matrix and Gizmo disappears. Make sure you are using the latest version of MWSE.
The console commands all checked out ok. Not sure the log is particularly helpful; this is all it said after Gizmo didn't appear and I closed the game:
Morrowind Script Extender v2.1.0 (built May 8 2019) hooked. Found MGE XE. Version: 0.10.1.0 MWSE Lua interface initialized. [Easy Escort] Initialized with configuration: { "blacklist":[], "followDistance":2000, "pollRate":5 }
Hello! So this may be a stupid question, but how to get Gizmo to follow me? When I reach him at Ald Sotha, I can enter into "conversation" into him but all it says is that he's not aggressive and that I notice an indentation on his head. But I have no way of interacting with him further. Is this something wrong in how I have it installed? Or do I have to do anything else? I went through and cleared Ald Sotha (I'm testing my setup for a new install) but didn't find anything useful.
Recall/Intervention: not currently Fast Travel: yes
However, once you have unlocked Gizmo's matrix form, you can just pocket him before recalling and then unravel him once you arrive! It's a good idea to try to get his matrix form asap anyway; as that is his safeguard against dying!
Found the matrix, but when you matrix Gizmo there seems to be a texture issue (big yellow diamond with exclamation point) and also, when you pull him back out, all of the things he had in his inventory are gone. Is there a way to fix this, or am I doing something wrong?
Make sure you are using the latest version for the texture issue. But, ah... that’s a bug with the inventory. I believe I know how to fix it... Stand by for the next version.
Gizmo's inventory getting wiped when you get him out of the matrix is fixed in version 1.1.0. Not quite as easy to squash as I thought it'd be and needed a lot of help. But it's in now! be sure to clean your save game with Wrye Mash when updating.
Aww, thanks! I do have some more mods up my sleeve for Modathon. :D
Let me know if you find anything else while playing with Gizmo. This ended up being a fairly complex mod, so it's possible that there are still some bugs hidden in it.
Oh, by the way, for Recall and Intervention, use Easy Escort. It will take care of this for you. And works with other companions you may use as well!
Perfect! Last thing I'll bother you about- is it safe to "update" the master list for this mod via wrye mash so I stop getting warnings? Some other mods don't seem to work properly when updated, and I want to make sure I don't mess this one up!

but he's too darn cute for me to be upset at all
Does he still heal when you feed him?
