Just to point out this is not proper grammar. You should use he or she unless you are trying to make some other point. You also point out that being male is canon, invalidating forcing this into the video.
>"He or she" just sounds cumbersome and pedantic and should never be used again.
The hero might be a better way of stating it, it's a game though I'm sure someone can make a grammatically correct mod if anyone's really that bothered.
Both the original video and this mod are grammatically correct. Most dictionaries will attest to this. Most of the time if a person goes out of their way to argue the contrary, it is motivated by their political convictions. Note the language that the OP uses "unless you are trying to make some other point" "forcing this into the video." No one is forcing anything anywhere, this is just a Morrowind mod. I'm just a coffee shop. And all of my points are clearly stated on the mod's description page.

EDIT: Sam642, sorry if it sounded like my frustrations were directed at you at the end there, I’m just tired of this conversation.
I really appreciate everyone on here who’s come out to talk sense, thank you.
If only it was as simple as American vs international English, my wife’s American (studied Journalism at NYU, masters in English literature before becoming an editor) says she never came across “he” being the preferred acceptable gender neutral pronoun.
Myself, growing up in England, I never even heard that ‘he’ could be used as such until coming across a certain breed of angry internet person.
In the waning years of the Third Era of Tamriel, a prisoner born on a certain day to uncertain parents was sent under guard, without explanation, to Morrowind, ignorant of the role the hero was to play in that nation's history…
They...hm, so you added a follower that can follow you around? and this character is part of the story as well? Hm, that sounds interesting. you know if the writings good that is.
Singular "they" as a gender-neutral pronoun is part of English grammar and has been so since at least Chaucer. The sooner you people understand that your feelings about enbies don't dictate grammar, the better.
What a comment. You guys should be happy that your language has "they", which has its historical usage and is grammatically correct. Other languages don't have that and people come up with the weirdest s#*! in order to avoid the generic masculine pronouns.
Strictly speaking, this is not an inconsistency, it's proper grammar. They is a plural pronoun, it cannot be used to refer to one person. There is no gender neutral singular pronoun in the English language, and 'he' is used to refer to people of uncertain gender.
EDIT: I don’t think “there is no gender neutral singular pronoun in the English language” is true, unless you don’t count words that have other meanings such as ‘he’ and ‘they’. Grammatically speaking, both are technically correct.
I've updated the brief description to be more accurate.
Work in the medical field and you will learn that they is a singular form too. When you can't identify a person in any way, including gender, you need gender neutral terms. Also, try talking about some one you don't know the gender of, like the main character before you choose gender, with out one.
I’m not familiar with zhey, would that be specific to people role playing a gender non-binary character? If so, wouldn’t ‘they’ already have it covered?
It might be worth getting in touch with Chesko about it. It would be 1000000x easier to make the change with the original project file and it’s components. And doing it that way would have the added bonus of a smaller file size too.
If you don’t hear back let me know. :)
EDIT: then again, one of us would have to hear back one way or the other as permissions aren’t open for that mod
Any news about this? Being used to Chesko's HD Cinematic makes using this mod in its place a bit painful. I really like the gender neutral change (even if I always play as a male character, it just feels right to have a neutral pronoun), but watching a cinematic with such low definition just bothers me. Great idea nonetheless.

2. "He or she" just sounds cumbersome and pedantic and should never be used again.
3. By your logic, playing as a female character should be modded out completely.

Nope, sounds even worse.
The Nerevarine is NOT canonically male.
I know I'm 4 years late to the party but this misconception annoys me to no end, hence why I'm here looking for a mod to fix it.
The mod is great in any case.

Have you tried sending them a message?
If you don’t hear back you could also try asking here: https://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/46482
See if chaoticblankness would upscale my version.
