Good evening, all. @PeterBitt: 1) Thank you for the upload. 2) 1.a. link to the assets is dead. The only usable find to replace it seems https://www.fullrest.ru/files/morrowind-acoustic-overhaul-ru/files (top line, 457mb file size; it is all-in-one version 1.1 package)
to all that downloaded mao from fullrest, the esm file needs to be replaced. credit goes to the steam community user conkwer for translating the esm file ( link to the translated esm file Morrowind Acoustic Overhaul v1.1-3 (tr en yampt).zip — Yandex Disk). after that all you have to do is use a zip file editor like 7zip winrar or peazip to delete the Russian esm and add the translated esm.
Okay, this is more of a duct tape fix really but it solves the issue. Some of you may have found that when you attack an enemy, you would receive an error warning: missing file/AO/battle/normal_05.mp3 or something like that. Well through some trial and error, I managed to figure out what files were missing and found a workaround to solve this issue without having to just ignore that error every time. This assumes you've already downloaded the sound folder from the Russian link pinned here and placed it in your MAO folder for this mod.
In your MAO folder, go to music/Ao/Battle/Vanilla. You should see a list of the original Morrowind battle themes: MW battle4.mp3 MW battle7.mp3 MW battle8.mp3 MW battle1.mp3 MW battle2.mp3 MW battle3.mp3 MW battle5.mp3 You can also find them in your original Morrowind battle music folder if you don't have them here. Copy those files and place them in the battle folder; Music/Ao/Battle <put them there. NOW, rename every file to normal_01 to 06 and hard_01 to 06 like this: Normal_01.mp3 Hard_01.mp3 Normal_02.mp3 Hard_02.mp3 Normal_03.mp3 Hard_03.mp3 Normal_04.mp3 Hard_04.mp3 Normal_05.mp3 Hard_05.mp3 Normal_06.mp3 Hard_06.mp3
You should have a total of 12 mp3 files. You will have to make a few copies, it honestly doesn't matter which mp3 you use as long as you have 6 mp3 files for each. I just made two copies of the original battle music and renamed them. Then save it. The game should now recognize that you have the missing files! Hope this helps :)
This mod is actually three separate downloads. It's a little over half a GB in size total.
The installation process is a written down in ReadMe files in individual files. Follow them carefully.
A lot of the sounds are actually from Skyrim. Jumping, drawing/sheathing, and walking for example.
You'll probably want to use MO2 for this, as it'll make it easier to edit the ini file with multiple mod lists, using it's Profiles feature.
I'll try and compile the instructions on installing the mod below:
Spoiler:
Show
1.a. Install the sound files first, which are hosted on Google Drive here.
1.b. Alternatively, if you have issues with the game's sound cutting out, you can use the lower quality (16bit @ 44100Hz) version of the sound files instead. They're found here.
2. Install the original v1.0 of the mod, which is found here in BAIN installer format. Choose either "Data Files" (merged version of the mod's features) or "stand alone plugins" (individual plugins for the mod's features). Not both!
3.a. Now we'll make an ini file to go along with the plugin. If installed right, MO2 will load the changes along with the plugin, since they share a file name. In your mod's folder, create a new text document. Rename it to "MAO.ini" (with no quotes). Edit it in Notepad, and paste the following:
Type absolutely NOTHING else and save the ini file.
3.b. Alternatively, if you aren't using MO2, you can change those ini lines by hand. For example: Under "[Weather Snow]," change the line "Ambient Loop Sound ID=None" to "Ambient Loop Sound ID=AO_Weather_Clear" (no quotes).
4. Be sure to ONLY activate the patches ("addons" folder) that you need to use! If you're using MO2, I suggest using the "Optional ESPs" tab to swap out patches for mods you don't have. For example, I moved everything but MAO_Firemoth.esp over to the left, since I only needed the Fort Firemoth patch.
5. Finally, you can now install the 1.1 update mod! Activate any files you need in the BAIN installer. Repeat Step 3 for MO2 users with the update mod.
First time i hear this complaint. Its five very basic steps to follow which most morrowind mod users are used to. The mod is not in one package on nexus for reasons... Rtf readme is nicely formatted to be easier to follow, windows can open these without third party apps. Anyways, since i never used a mod installer this post might be useful for some.
Yeah, coming from a Skyrim modder's perspective, things are usually in one spot. I'm a little spoiled lol. It's not actually all that hard to follow in hindsight.
And I'm sorry for coming across rude. I was frustrated writing up the post.
Sorry to pester friend but do you happen to still have the original high quality audio? Your low quality alternative seems to be the only fragment of the original audio package for the mod still left.
Furthermore: Your low quality upload has the files but no instructions on where to place them. I have been able to half ass it but have had errors in game of the mod being unable to load a track. I think I could just write down each error and make sure to modify the install manually but I think you will agree that will take a long time and lead to a load of instances where the game suddenly stops.
you are a godsend lmao thanks for the steps. Can you also upload on the dropbox the AO folder for the combat and exploration music for this mod cause it seems to be missing since theres popups for missing files every time you enter a battle and the mod is trying to select random tracks for this. Google drive link is dead and those arent on the russian link either.
MAO_2d.esm (adds ambient sounds to interiors) MAO_3d.esm (adds ambient sounds to the exteriors) MAO_Weather.esm (adds interior weather sounds) MAO_Containers.esp (each type of a container - barrel, chest, sack - has its own sound) MAO_Regions.esp (changes region ambient palettes) MAO_Vanilla.esp (changes the volume of sounds in vanilla records based on the new replaced sounds)
The combat music isn't working for me like others have said, it just becomes silent lmao so i played around it a bit and made it work by putting the combat music folder just under the music folder instead of music/ao folder after getting rid of the og combat folder hope this helps anybody, though it is a little annoying that after every battle a new exploration track starts from the beginning instead of continuing the same track before a battle starts
1) Thank you for the upload. 2) 1.a. link to the assets is dead. The only usable find to replace it seems https://www.fullrest.ru/files/morrowind-acoustic-overhaul-ru/files (top line, 457mb file size; it is all-in-one version 1.1 package)
CONFIRMED LINK IS STILL ALIVE! THANK YOU FOR THE link @josephrivers
Hey everyone. I'm still running and loving this mod. I had to import the Russian hosted files, (follow the regular mod's readme) after that turn off battle music because it was missing (eh fine for immersion to not have it), and also the Corpus delay option because my character was bugged and kept sniffing after getting Corpus cured, and turning that off fixed it.
And this mod rocks! There seems to be a lot of attention to detail and it really adds a lot for me (like reverant choral tracks kicking in around shrine areas). Wouldn't want to play the game without it. There's definitely potential for an updated patch while makes it easier to run but I don't know much about modding Morrowind.
