Hi Merlord, this is exactly what I was looking for! Being able to intermittently talk to NPCs, use services, and complete quests has made playing as a vampire so much more enjoyable and fixed pretty much all of the complaints I had, while still having some considerable downsides.

Just in case anyone was wondering this mod also works fine on OpenMW.

I have also modified the file a bit to suit my tastes. I made the power an illusion spell with a casting cost of 10, and removed the damage fatigue, damage magicka, and fortify personality effects in lieu of a "Chameleon 0 points for 60 seconds on self effect" which felt more thematically appropriate as a spell (i.e., using Illusion to alter other's perceptions of your face). I realised using your mod that I was just waiting 24 hours between uses so I could talk to NPCs again, so a spell with casting cost felt more usable for my own playstyle.

I'm happy to pass on the file to you if you're interested in hosting it on this page? It is in .omwaddon format though...

Thanks for this. I'm always looking out for lightweight vampire mods.
Any chance you could add a daily need to feed with the Vampire Touch spell? Ideally to work only on rats and docile NPCs. As for hostile NPCs (if you can pull it off), feeding can only be performed when they're on the ground with 0 fatigue (absorbed by the Vampire Touch spell instead of health).
I think that would be a good balance between believability and functionality, as other mods tend to be rather convoluted.

Having a daily need to feed is a good idea, but having it specific to certain NPC's and creatures might be difficult or impossible with Morrowind's engine. I'll give it a go though, I'm sure I can come up with a decent mechanic. Thanks for your input!

To SpaceDevo's comment I would add the following suggestion: make the power last for 90 seconds or 120 seconds (unless you can somehow make it upgradeable according to player level and/or time spent as a vampire. I like the idea that the more powerful vampires can hold this mask spell up for longer). In any case, together with Rebirth's edits to the vampire clans, this will spice up the vampire playthroughs immensely.

Hm, perhaps NPCs and specific creatures could have a "blood item" placed on them with a script attached. Once you take the item, it disappears and sates your hunger. That way pickpocketing someone, whether standing or knocked out, is treated as feeding. Feeding leaves the NPC at only 5% health and 0 fatigue with no other "blood item" in their inventory, but you can feed on them the next day after they regain said health and blood. You can also just kill the NPC and feed on them that way, but then you can't reuse them again. For both slain NPCs and animals, you'll have only an in-game hour to feed on them until the blood goes bad and disappears from their inventory. As for docile NPCs, feeding can be performed via a dialogue option, but whether they'll become hostile afterward and report you to the guards depends on whether or not their disposition is at 100 AND you have your Glamour power activated. Regardless, feeding lowers their disposition by half, so you must raise it again in order to use them as a willing donor. Cattle NPCs are exempt from this rule, and you can feed on them daily without consequence -- unless you use a Command spell to make them leave your clan hideout, whereupon they'll stop acting like cattle and simply flee, which also gets you in trouble with your clan for stealing.

Creatures that can be fed on for nourishment: I think anything that isn't diseased, blighted, undead, insectoid, mechanical or Daedric should be fair game.

Hunger effects: I think progressive Drain effects for Health, Magicka and Fatigue should be a sufficient penalty, with gradually-slowed regeneration during rest.

Walkihr: Perhaps well-fed vampires could get the 90-second version, with a 120-180 (double length) version given as a reward by your clan leader, and an additional 5 seconds added on for every character level? However, in any case, the effect is dispelled if you go outside in the sun.
