INFO ABOUT NEW VERSION!

So I uploaded 1.1 today. I basically removed a lot of specular maps because I realized those textures looked better without them. I also turned town the specularity of some other textures.

If you are updating from an old version:

  • If you have an older version and installed it with the OpenMW multi data folders feature, simply delete the textures folder inthe directory of the mod before you install the new version. This will make sure that any old obsolete specular maps and the likewill be removed.
  • If you, however, have an older version and installed it the "old school" way, by extracting the content into your main MorrowindData Files folder, you will have to remove all the old textures manually. You'll find them in Data Files/Textures. Look at thecontents of the 7zip-file of the old version to see which files to delete. Delete all of them before installing the new version.
And hey: Try the much better OpenMW-only way to install mods in the future.

Info about texture pack

Hi!

This is the first release of my vanilla friendly high resolution texture pack of Vivec, featuring normal maps, parallax maps and specular maps.

It replaces most textures in Vivec, Velothi and Molag Mar except for a few tiny textures barely visible. I might add those in a later update. More or less all textures feature normal maps, many have specular maps and some have parallax maps. You are required to use OpenMW and add a few lines in the settings.cfg file to use these special textures.

So anyway, to use this as intended, you need OpenMW, at least version 0.39.0, which is, at the time of writing, the latest version. There might be a way to use these with MGE, but I don't know, never tried, never will.

To install (good, OpenMW multi data folders-style):

This guide explains the process in detail. Check it out if you haven't done this before.

  • To install the mod, create a data folder for the mod and add its path to openmw.cfg
  • To uninstall the mod, simply remove the folder from openmw.cfg
  • Find your "settings.cfg" file. Should be here:
    • Linux: $HOME/.config/openmw
    • Windows: C:\Users\Username\Documents\my games\openmw (username, harddrive and language may vary)
    • Mac: $HOME/Library/Preferences/openmw
  • Add these rows to settings.cfg (except for the QUOTE):
    [Shaders]
auto use object normal maps = true
auto use object specular maps = true
  • You're done! Launch the game and everything should work as expected.

Didn't understand a thing in the first two steps? Again, look at the official OpenMW wiki guide.

Still don't understand? Ah well. Do it the old way then. Follow the instructions below. But it's gonna suck when you have to uninstall or reinstall the mod because you will have to remove every single texture manually.

To install (bad, old school way):

  • Put the "textures" folder in your Data Files folder in the main Morrowind directory. Overwrite when/if asked.
  • Find your "settings.cfg" file. Should be here:
    • Linux: $HOME/.config/openmw
    • Windows: C:\Users\Username\Documents\my games\openmw (username, harddrive and language may vary)
    • Mac: $HOME/Library/Preferences/openmw
  • Add these rows to settings.cfg (except for the QUOTE):
    [Shaders]
auto use object normal maps = true
auto use object specular maps = true
  • You're done! Launch the game and everything should work as expected.
