+1, but considering all the talk about scripting language and how all of the really fun and deep overhaul Morrowind mods are categorically incompatible with OpenMW, I very much doubt it.
Unfortunately not, and TBQH I don't understand why this mod, or a similar XP-based system, hasn't been ported to OpenMW yet. All we have there are various flavors of vanilla leveling, mostly aimed at reducing the chore of "perfect 555 attribute leveling". Most of these mods also make the game more difficult and even more of a chore for leveling skills, despite being advertised as "hassle-free". OpenMW has some built-in limits as well, such as the impossibility of using Drain Skill to get cheap training.
Overall I think the TES leveling system is among the most stupid ever in an RPG game, as it promoted dumb grinding and counter-intuitive character development (such as choosing skills you will NOT be using much as your Major skills) over natural and seamless interaction with the game world by doing quests, killing enemies, and developing your character as you see fit. The Skyrim XP mod and the Enderal XP system have been great to breathe actual life into leveling, and I am perplexed that Morrowind OpenMW hasn't gotten this treatment by 2024.
I agree with you, @MAlcroix Xp mods that turn it into fallout style really are the only way to play elder scrolls games. Leveling is pure garbage. I really don't know what the developers ever intended to level up, especially as a mage.
is MGE XE needed or not? main page says it is needed but download page says it doesnt anymore. also does this make the game less grindy? like is it easier to reach lvl 100 with a skill? also anyone tried this with julan, ashlander companion mod? finally which mwse version should i use?
How can we find how much XP we need until we level? Also, since installing this mod I get an unbelievable amount of lag regardless of location, even in menu screens my mouse keeps freezing. the ONLY thing I have done is install the mod and now I have the lag so I know it isn't something else causing the issue. How do I resolve this!?
Check how many skills you need to level up by moving the mouse on top of the skill bar. Should show e.g 1 / 10 or 1 - 10.
Or use Fliggerty's Skill Progress mod.

FYI, people who have downloaded Morrowind XP on TAL can from now on only download the mod here on Nexus, because recently AndalayBay, the owner and founder of TAL, decided to shut down TAL for good.
Which means that downloading mods on TAL is impossible due for being inaccessible, even with the Wayback Machine.
I've been having a weird issue with this mod: whenever I get enough XP for a level, it gets stuck (in the hover menu for the current level) at whatever my XP was before gaining what I needed, and when I reload a save made afterwards, it gets stuck at the beginning of the level (e.g. instead of 1653-1650, it is 3/1650) and I am unable to level up. I am not sure what causes this, my closest guess is any console change to attributes or skills, which I do often at the beginning of the game because 150 weight is not enough at the beginning (or the end game if you are like me and you don't trust containers due to potential container resets and you don't trust placing things on the floor of the house that you murdered someone to squat in because Oblivion and Skyrim ruined that).
In short, it might be better to make the XP an item that you can drag to the ragdoll and be able to access the leveling menu that way as long as there is enough of the XP item for that level.
this seems like just what i need to make the game fun again in 2020, but those comments about glitches worry me. is it just the alpha version that's all broken, or should i steer clear?
I've been using the mod extensively and never had an issue. I go up to Level 40 with several skills well over 100 using this mod, and completed Tribunal with it.
Only issue I have is that because the XP is stored as an Item, you have to be careful not to drop it, store it, or sell it off or it'll screw up the mod.
