Finally I finished this mod and have an opinion about it.

First off, the concept is good and I really liked a few parts (not spoiling) where you are teleported into another place, very interesting and the story behind it all is also very intriguing.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
But It has numerous flaws and now i will be saying spoilers.

The enemy design is very very boring and basic, you fight goblins as in mournhold, a few skeletons and bonelords, negative coloured dreugh, and continuously spawning enemies as soon as you kill them, which could be an interesting mechanic but it was terribly put together.

Another thing to point out is the fact that this mod lacks context and a somewhat fluent history to it. I mean, you go there to kill goblins, these never ending enemies, a few dragons that are just broken in terms of damage and health but also the hit box which is their anus making it even more frustrating to kill them (and they fall from the map really easily) ,just to be rewarded with generic soul gems that aren't even that good to start with since you can buy grand ones in mournhold pretty cheaply. Besides that, the actual dungeon was so so boring and frustrating to do because its 12 levels of copy pasted enemies, enviourment, etc to get a key, on a body in a random level i think it was 7, and after level 12 you fight the broken dragon and that's it. The treasure, the journey overall doesn't feel rewarding enough given the trouble you go through. Oh, and some of the enemies get stuck on the roof and don't even attack you!!

As far as i can remember, in the chapel you get another key for the treasury and a strange statue which if you payed attetion to the mod, it's the cause of the goblins there, and when you pick it up, the PC gets a chill in the spine but that's it, nothing happens after that, you go to the treasury, get lots of valuable items and you leave because that's all.

And the unicorn serves no purpose besides dying, giving you unicorn meat and a grand soul gem, plus after dying you get attacked by 3 golden saints and that's really all to it.

Incredbly unfinished mod, with good premise, good ideas but terrible presentation and overall anything really.

Seriously unfinished mod. Not worthy to download. At first I was amazed. New Fort, corpses, mystery, atmosfere. Everething looked fine. And them it went to crap. Immortal enemy respawning after every kill are just ridiculous. Strong and outnumbered you are going down pretty qucikly. Only option run. A went all the netherrealm dungeon just to get where I started without any progres in story. Tired after killing hudreds of skeletons and hungers I quit and unninstal this mod. If author repairs serious errors in this mode it would be amazing quest with perfect atmosfere. Otherwise it woulbe the same crap like it is.

I had a slight problem with the skeleton enemies in this mod. They were all glitchy and unable to move for some reason. At least from the waist down anyway. Oh and also what's with the skeleton that spawns behind you for no reason when you're outside of the castle and in another town somewhere?

Do I need to install the race to play the ruins of serpenthold? I don't want any new races.

No. Ruins of Serpenthold should work without having to install the accompanying race mod. They were bundled together for convenience since the race mod uses the same meshes and textures as the Serpenthold mod.
