Dark Shard Quest Walkthrough
Act I: Something's up
1. Use any Guild Guide's travel option at night (a special destination will appear)
2. Return to the Guild Guide for explanation
- Optional: Ask guides about their destinations
3. Speak to Edwinna
4. Gather 4 reports from NPCs (can be done in any order)
Optional Sources: (npcs with hints leading you to npcs with reports)
publicans, traders in Seyda Neen, Hla Oad, Gnaar Mok and Dagon Fel, smiths, guards, people in Gnisis and Ald Velothi, nobles, savants, people in Molag Mar and Ghostgate.

- Enchanters/Mages
- Khuul residents
- Dunmer in Seyda Neen, Hla Oad, Gnaar Mok, Dagon Fel
5. Return to Edwinna
6. Obtain two books:
- Buy The Firmament from Ald-ruhn bookseller
- Get Celestial Archon from Vivec Library (Temple member)
- Note: Unique dialogue available for high-ranking Mages, Temple members, Nerevarine, or high-reputation PCs
7. Return to Edwinna, wait more than 24 hours
Act II: It's a comet!
8. Speak with scholars:
- Must speak with Baladas in Gnisis
- Optional: Hasphat Antabolis, Senilias Cadiusus, Yagrum + additional comments from Edwinna.
9. Speak with Baladas and get "Dwemer ruins" information to new ruin.
- Ruins Investigation
- Note: Clear weather recommended
11. Find in ruins:
- Broken Chromatic Resonator
- At least one schematic (two exist)
- Optional: Unique Dwemer staff and spear available
12. Return items to Baladas
13. Report to Edwinna
- Crystal Search
- Must speak with Raz'id at Fatleg Dropoff (Hla Oad)
- Note: Negotiation options vary with Mercantile skill
- Optional: visit Mebestian Ence
15. Speak with Smokey Morth at Vos tradehouse
16. Return to Edwinna
- Telescope Investigation
- Nchuleftingth
- Galom Daeus
- Druznachar
- Arkngthunch-Sturdumz
- Arkngthand
- Sorkvild's Tower (Dagon Fel)
- Note: Edwinna has directions in the "Dwemer ruins" topic
18. At observatory:
- Click on the open hatch to place resonator
- Use telescope (aim for bottom-side)
- Adjust crystals/knobs (use color theory)
- Search sky for anomaly (you'll get a journal update)
19. Return to Edwinna
Act III: Who dunnit
- Speaking with Khajiit
21. Speak with Jobasha about Dro-m'Athra
- Optional: learn more about Khajiit faith
22. Return to Edwinna
23. Speak with alchemists
- Note: The next step triggers after 1 minute in wilderness which should happen normally unless you never leave town.
- Finding the lair
- Optional: Edwinna gives a clue to find the secret lair.
25. Find shack at Odai river mouth
- Visible from shipwreck between Seyda Neen and Hla Oad
26. Speak to Khajiit, use trapdoor
27. Speak to cult leader
28. Search for clues
29. Return to Edwinna
Act IV: Getting high
- Void Sugar Essence
- Optional: Get moon sugar from Aengoth
- Optional: Buy void salts from Under-Skar alchemist
31. Give ingredients to Anarenen
32. Get vials from Rathal in Vivec glassbower's hall
- Available through dialogue or barter
33. Return to Anarenen
- Triangulate Dark Shard position
- Use ruins listed in step 17
35. Return to Edwinna with:
- Dark Shard coordinates
- Void Sugar Essence
Act V: To the Moon
36. Use Guild Guide travel to Dark Shard
37. Drink Void Sugar Essence
38. Kill (and loot) cultists around vortices
- Warning: Vortices cause damage
39. Enter central tower
40. Defeat cult leader
- Optional: Unique gear available on body.
41. Leave the Dark Shard and return to Edwinna for your final reward.
