3.0 Update I decided against keeping the whole "more normal kitties" naming scheme as it was a bit silly. Instead i opted to changing the original release to (No Endgame Changes) as most of the end game armors would require the "more normal kitties" files to work.
This update includes Kulve Taroth I never felt Kulve Taroth for the palicoes really gave the feeling of a golden armor like our hunters got. So completely redesigned it from the ground up using the concept art for the armor as reference. Xeno Jiva Only really made the Head visible, i may return to this and make the arms visible too. Namielle Only really made the head visible, I may return to this and make arms and legs visible too. Rose I removed the porciline parts from the mod. Mainly the porceline head and hands that the original armor forced on us that only looked creepy. Shara Ishvalda Relationship with flying monk ended, now normal cat is my best friend.
This is a side project of mine which i certainly intend to continue working on. However coming up with ideas on what to change can be a bit hard on palicoes as they sort of require a different design approach from hunter armors.
´The style of Palicoes being their armor is a bit sillier and cuter which is a very different approach from hunters.
One of the upcoming ones Ive already decided is Teostra, Giving it the same treatment as the lunastra got. Removing the wig and taking a piece from the male hunters helmet to give it to our palico armors! :)
I'm all open for any ideas anyone may have on armors that can be improved and added to this project! So feel free to comment either here or message me with any ideas you may come up with.
Right, so I read your comments in response to others questions and I on a lark, I opened up the master files for both the head and body for the Palico‘s, and then for the rose armor, I set both files to hide everything.
to clarify, in both of the master files, controlling what parts of the palico are shown, I set all of the settings to be the same, hiding everything
I then deleted the rose armor edits you had done and loaded up the game. as far as I can tell the rose armor in game still has the palico head showing, as it clips with the default rose head, but nothing else.
What do you think could be causing that?
EDIT: I FIGURED IT OUT! YOU USE THE HELM FILE TO CONTROL THE HEAD, EYEBROWS/WHISKERS, TAIL, AND TAIL CONTROL! IF YOU WANT THE FACE TO STAY GONE, YOU NEED TO CHECK BIT FLAGS 5 AND/OR SET THE BITS TO MATCH OTHER ARMOR FILES OF THE SAME TYPE. YOU USE THE BODY FILE TO CONTROL THE TORSO, HANDS, WAIST, FEET, ARMS, AND EAR CONTROL
The Rose set causes my palico to lose his upper head, it has a bunch of missing chunks. What files do I have to remove in order to bring back the original one?
It does not work that way, Unlike hunter armor palicoes does not have a few files to disable any select armor.
Instead the armors are all controlled by a master file to decide what parts of the armor to turn off, Sadly its a bit of a undocumented area when it came to modding it so i did a lot of trial and error with helps of the MHW editor and hex editing.
Some body pieces overrides helm pieces and there aint a clear reason as to why.
If you want to disable it you would have to essentially revert to the non full version which lacks half the changes.
Aw, that's a bummer. A lot of these changes are a massive improvement compared to the original. I am curious, though. Would it be possible just to have the Nergigante changes then? As an optional file?
Nerg was an armor that didnt actually require the master file. So its already in the original upload of this mod before i started drastically changing the endgame armors.
So if you want it then you can just use that one rather than the full package.
Thank you! Makes me glad to hear it :D I honestly don't know if i will.
I recently got back into MHW a bit and have been enjoying it. Modding it however can be frustrating, Especially with something such as the palicoes given their models is kind of super cursed.
A master file controls what parts of the body is shown, It has some weird hierchy with some pieces trumping others in terms of what to display. And its all just extremely unclear of how exactly it works.
There is a reason not many Palico mods was made for MHW and MHR was even worse with textures bugging out as i tried to remake this mod for that game.
If anyone want to take on the mantle and make more Project Palico mod stuff then i'd be happy to give all the files i have and help out in any way i can.
Also, I'm not even sure what armor sets left to really edit as i already covered the majority of the main culprits for me with this mod. Maybe Kirin's hair, Teostra's hair and Beo's weird snowboarder set. Possibly Artian too but i dont think i ever see people use that one.
Edit: Actually f*#@ it, i might pop in and make some minor changes to the following. Not sure when i will have the time though Kirin, Teostra, Kulu, Garuga, Fatalis
Howdy so I downloaded the full version of the mod and opened up the data files in an attempt to edit their settings to my personal preference as the only armors I’m really interested in are the ruiner and Zeno armors and nothing happened. is there something else you changed or am I missing something? I’m only editing the Files without copy in the name so am I missing something there?
This mod is built by having 2 seperate things going on. Each armor has their model work done which is the edits to the armor.
but the full thing also has a seperate SINGLE file that controls all the visible conditions such as (show head, show paws, show tail) etc for the armors. Which is why i couldnt really offer this as a "pick which armors you want" kind of mod.
If you truly only want some specific ones like zeno and ruiner i honestly suggest just getting the full thing and not try to edit it. If you however still want to edit them, you can use the MHW editor together with info from the wiki of each ID's of the armors, Combine that with extracting the game files yourself and comparing each file to restore their data to its original form and removing its model edits.
Also as a sidenote, if you do make changes, feel free to upload the changed file if you want. I consider all my work to be under a creative commons license meaning we are all free to edit and collaborate however we wish as long as the same rule goes forward by others work based on mine.
Thanks for the explanation,. I was confused because when I downloaded the file the only ones I moved over into my game were the armor edits for xeno and ruiner and the data files, it was only when I tried switching to some of the other armors in game that you had edited that I noticed that there was clipping from the cat Model because of the changes to the data file. Hence why I tried to edit the data file itself to no avail.
i’ll take a closer look at them later as I am currently preoccupied and only stumbled upon your mod late last night, so I didn’t really have time to mess around with much more than what I did
Yea, Sadly the viscons for Palicoes is a bit of a nightmare to deal with, Sometimes the headpiece can give the body to display stuff like tail etc. its kinda silly tbh.
Only pick one, I do explain which armors are covered in the description. But basically the Less drastic version one can delete any armor they dont like from it since its not adjusting what body parts are shown.
The "more drastic" or basically the primary version covers many endgame armors. But due to all palico armors having a universal file for the models that controls what body parts to show (Ears, Head, Whiskers, Tail, Legs, Hands, etc) I cant upload them as seperate files. So the more drastic version like Kulve, Nami, Vaal's, Xeno etc is basically a all or nothing approach.
Since if you install that one and want to revert Vaal back you cant really do that without changing the palico "show body parts" file. Since if you delete my models for vaal it will cause the body parts to still show when they never did in the original. so it will look all mashed up.
Hope that was a good explanation of the reason i made both versions. The less drastic changes (Any armor not needing the body display changes) Primary version (all armors in less drastic + all the other armors that needed body display changes)
honestly so nice to see palicos get love and have armor that doesnt cover up their faces, since theyre really adorable and its a shame you can miss how expressive they are with some sets- love this mod hope to see more in the future :D
The palicoes animations are honestly adorable and amazing alone, And they have so much character its a shame to see it all get removed for those end game armors.
I even found out the other day if we as hunters remain still for too long during a hunt the palicoes goes to sleep waiting for us to do something
I have worked on a few ones yet to be added to this mod since they had some bugs left to fix first.
It's been months since I originally made those armors. However if you can see the cat at all then no, you didn't do anything wrong. As if the file wasn't working they would be entirely invisible.
I don't remember if that's a intended thing or not. Do believe it is intended as the armor kinda covered the tails.
I could add the tails back but they would be clipping if I did. Although I may add a tail opening for the tail.
I'll have a look on the matter, there is a chance I have changed the file without properly checking it ingame. I don't remember it having an issue where it would be noticible like so.
After double checking this now, there is something odd going on there.
As the armors do indeed have tails, Assuming you installed this correctly it should be there for both armors. Can you post a picture in the bug section about this issue and i can look it over?
Anytime, Was planning on adding 3-4 new armors in a update to it soon and had a look over this at the same time.
I also added a little hole for the palico tail on the blackveil as i realized it wouldnt look great if it simply clipped through, Although on second thought as i'm writing this i realize that wasnt an issue. But hey! Now we got a extra tattered hole for no extra price on blackveil! :D
Honestly, there's an over-saturation of ugly booba mods as it is... but this one easily takes the cake. It's amazing how much QoL this adds to the game that I'm surprised nobody has tried to implement something like this before. Palicoes as a whole really go ignored most of the time, which is a pretty darn shame given the possibilities. Still hoping this gets a new update later down the road!
But yea, generally i think most modders just work on stuff they like the most. A lot of it happen to be weapons and armors, as you are pretty limited with Palicoes. And sadly a lot of the community kinda hates our cat friends. I am a cat caretaker myself and generally really like cats so i genuinely think palicoes is some of the best thing with the game. Not to mention the download count on this mod and other palico mods tend to be a bit lackluster so many tend to focus on stuff that grabs people attention.
But that being said i have 2 armors done which i should push as an update. Thanks to this comment i was reminded of it and will do it now. You may have seen it below
It will be a optional file as it means you kinda are forced to use all the armors in general contained in this mod due to how palicoes work with what body parts are shown. Its a universal file for all armors rather than armor specific.
Thank you! I should package up the Vaal part of the mod and push it out, I've been unsure on if I wanted to do it without changing more armors first.
But given I'm unsure when I can return to this project and work more on palico armors I may as well push the stuff I have finished :)
It will be a seperate main mod file though since if you use it you have to use almost all armors in the mod and can't combine it with most other palico mods.
I've not been able to work much more on this mod sadly despite me wanting to. It also is a bit of a pain that editing palico armors is a little bit of a nightmare in terms of testing them.
