I have no idea why, but I can only enter my steam id with my numpad. The numbers are successfully displayed in the prompt, but does not take them (I made sure they were correct) unless I use the numpad numbers.

That's a very odd issue thats probably related to your PC considering a batch script just uses windows built in CLI

Got a question for using the backup script within the Windows Task. I set up the process to -say- run the script whenever I log into the session and it's not working; then I proceed and click "execute" in the Windows Task app and it prompts me to enter my SteamID like the first time I used that script - problem is it would't accept my ID, it just keep refreshing over and over when I enter it and press "ENTER".
Meanwhile if I run the script double-clicking on it like an .exe it runs just fine....I don't get it

Seems like a perms issue possibly, if you message me on discord I could try and help troubleshoot this for you further, my guess is that it's failing to generate the SID fille since Tasks iirc runs directly from System32

But as I said feel free to shoot me a message at Dragon Shark#0001 on discord if you require further assistance with the automatin

I couldn't find you on the Nexus Discord so I'm gonna ask here ^^

First of all I amlost solved the previous issue: as I ran the task once with admin privileges it worked...but still at times, after I log in and check if a save backup as been made, I find that it hasn't. Besides that though I wanted to attach the task to when I'm turning Steam off - I saw in the Win Task Scheduler the option to attach to an event, but I'm stuck when it asks me to give the ID of the event, which I can't find (I tried with Event Viewer with no luck).

I really don't know how much of a chore would be for you to guide me through that (or even attacching to MHW App closing) so I'll thank you right now anyways for you patience!

Ah sorry to say but im not a grand master of the task scheduler, there's probably already a Youtube tutorial of how to do what you want to do with the scheduler and if there isnt I recommend looking at microsofts own documentation or googling the question (has helped me many times)

II can really only provide support for my own script. (although when i do know something i obviously would say so)

Also my discord is in the mod description

You simply copy your SAVEDATA into your MHW save folder

Hello, I noticed that this only works properly off the bat if the Steam install directory is the default (C:\Program Files (x86)\).
Could you also add a prompt at the start to enter your Steam installation folder?
    Thank you!

Sure, I'll also add one for the windows Directory for the rare people that aren't using C: as their main.

I try not to use the Program Files for installing anything, because it causes problems with some other games/programs. Thanks for the update!

      Not so rare.
No one should install anything except OS on their main.

Last i checked WINDOWS IS the OS @olenhol

No, as i just said, I include the standard directory of for your USER folder into the OS.

Which is where the tool saves its backup.

So where is the backup folder located? What do i have to do if my original save somehow was deleted?

All saves by default are stored in:
      C:\Users\%USERNAME%\MHBACKUP\

To take a backup and put it back in MHW simply copy the files in a date/time folder and paste them in
      Steam\userdata\%STEAMID%\582010\remote\

Since the description is vague i have a few questions.

How often is a backup created, how many backups are created before being overwritten, and when is a backup created?
I rarely turn my pc off and only reboot when needed, so if i run your program before i play, is a backup created then and another created later once i've saved in-game, or what?

    Thanks.

A backup is made when you run the script.

If you set the script to be run automatically via Windows Tasks it will backup whenever you set it to.

      No Saves are overwritten

"Prompts you to enter your SteamID when you run it for the first time."

By SteamID do you mean both username and password? Or username only?

SteamID is the identification number assigned to your account, its the large number in your steam profile url, for people who've customised their profile it will be whatever they entered. for example https://steamcommunity.com/id/Depleted666/ is my sp url so Depleted666 is my SteamID.

Never enter your password into anything that asks for it, that's account security rule #1.

Steam ID is the Number not the Unique link you made.

You can find your id out easily by just checking "\Steam\userdata\"
After Userdate is where your STEAMID is which is why in thee script you can see "Steam\userdata\%STEAMID%\582010\remote"

to be clear, this creates a backup for your mhw save file?

why is there a need for a third party installation if you can just copy the file from steam directory manually?

This is a script that automates the process as well as saving it structured based on time and date it was backed up.

Further for those who are aware of how tasks work they can create a windows task and set it to run whenever they log in, or their pc is turned on or MHW starts and have the save file automatically back itself up.

The purpose of automization is Optimization, ease of use and reduction of human error.
You cant forget to do something that is done automatically.

Also just to clarify, this does not require any installation or third party applications, it is a pure batch script utilizing Windows commands.
