🔥 FAQ (Or, Things People Keep Asking Instead of Reading)
🔹 "My game is completely black! What did you do to it?" Calm down, drama queen, I didn’t hack your game. You probably skipped the instructions (yes, those things with words). Make sure the LUT file (rehydrated_lut_X.X.png) is in .../MonsterHunterWilds/reshade-shaders/Textures. If it's not there, you've found your issue.
🔹 “Why do I see duplicate effects, or why does something look off?” If things look weird—like effects duplicating or something not appearing as it should—the best fix is a full manual uninstall of ReShade (aka The ReShade Nuke 💣). Check the Uninstall Instructions in the main description, completely remove ReShade, then reinstall both ReShade and this preset from scratch. That should reset everything and get it working properly again!
🔹 "My Home key doesn't open ReShade!" Try rebinding the key manually in the ReShade.ini file. The process is explained step by step at the bottom of the installation guide. Still doesn't work? You probably have Citrix installed, which hates ReShade. Disable or uninstall Citrix, and voilà!
🔹 "How do I quickly toggle ReShade on/off?" Press the Home key in-game, go to settings, and set a hotkey under Effect Toggle Key. Magic toggling powers, unlocked!
🔹 "Is this going to get me banned?" No. ReShade is purely visual magic (post-processing). Wilds has no anti-cheat system, just anti-tamper (Denuvo). You're safe—unless you’re doing something shady on your own.
🔹 "Does it work with HDR?" Officially? It’s made for SDR. But now, with Balanced, Cinematic, and Softy, you’ve got options. If HDR looks off, try Softy—it’s likely the best pick since it has the least aggressive contrast. Still not quite right? Adjust LUT Luma Amount and Chroma Amount in the ReShade menu, and tweak your in-game brightness settings accordingly.
🔹 "What's the FPS hit?" Almost nothing. LUT.fx and CAS.fx are performance-friendly. If you're losing sleep over a few FPS, maybe close Chrome instead.
🔹 "The shadows are too dark! The highlights burn my eyes! The colors are too much! HELP!" Alright, let’s sort this out. First, make sure you picked the right version for your taste:
Cinematic: Deep contrast, dramatic lighting—perfect if you love that intense, moody vibe.
Balanced: The sweet spot—rich depth without overdoing it.
Softy: Gentler contrast, softer shadows—ideal if you found Balanced too much (and probably the best for HDR).
Still not quite right? Open the ReShade menu (Home key), find LUT.fx, and adjust:
Luma Amount – Controls the luminosity of the LUT (lower it to soften shadows and highlights).
Chroma Amount – Controls the color correction of the LUT (lower it if you want colors closer to vanilla).
Need even more control? Use your in-game brightness settings:
For any Linux users out there using reshade-linux (or anyone else having the black screen problem due to LUT despite following the instructions/FAQ): The texture files (rehydrated_lut_x.x.png) simply need to be where ReShade looks for them. You can either add the path "MonsterHunterWilds/reshade-shaders/Textures" to the "Texture Search Paths" under Settings or put the .png files into "MonsterHunterWilds/ReShade_shaders/Merged/Textures", which reshade-linux creates for you but slightly deviates from the norm it appears.
Heya! I've been loving this reshade preset and have been using it for as long as I can remember. Could you confirm the effects used for v4.0, if it's not too much trouble? Thanks!
Appreciate you sticking with it. (¬‿¬) v4.0 only uses LUT.fx — it installs automatically with ReShade. Plus, RenoDX mod, which handles shadows and highlights better by hooking straight into the game’s DX12 shaders.
Aha I had thought that something went awry with my installation after seeing LUT.fx being the only active effect outside of RenoDX. Thanks again for the confirmation!
Yeah, you probably got the notification for the now-archived v3.2 beta — quick recap:
That beta was focused on rebalancing sharpening, lowering excessive brightness, fixing crushed blacks, and fine-tuning the colors for a more natural, cleaner look.
BUT… plot twist: I’ve since decided to skip v3.2’s final release and go straight to v4.0, which will use RenoDX for even better results.
So, stay tuned — the next update is gonna hit harder. 乁(¬‿¬ )ㄏ
omg you're da best, lately ive been playing with the LCPD reshade preset that requires turning off color correction with another mod, i found that to be the prettiest picture but it has a problem, the ui gets really bright so i went back to your amazing presets, cant wait for the new update <3
I dunno if the RenoDX auto runs if i extract the zip inside the game's folder or if i should do something to activate it, but either way i did all the steps, color correction off, selected the 4.0 beta preset and only had Lut box checked, gathering hub looks a bit dark but every other place actually looks nice, sadly cant share pic
Yeah, if you’ve downloaded RenoDX and just dropped the zip contents into the game folder, it auto-runs. You can check if it’s active by opening the ReShade menu — you should see a new panel labeled “RenoDX.” If that’s there, you’re golden.
The beauty of using RenoDX is its flexibility. If you feel the Gathering Hub (or anything else) looks too dark, just dive into the RenoDX panel — you can tweak shadows, highlights, tonemapping, and more.
That’s why v4 doesn’t need extra preset variants like v3.1 did; everyone can fine-tune things themselves for the perfect balance. It’s basically: “Here’s the sharp blade — now swing it your way.” (งツ)ว
after coming back from work i saw that monster hunter was updating, after the update the game would not run, tried to verify files and remove all my mod, nothing worked so i deleted every file of 4.0 beta and it worked, when i turn off the color correction and then choose the second option in the in the Reno menu which is next to vanilla+ the game actually looks great without needing the 4.0 file
Hey, thanks for the input! Honestly, I’m surprised you’re comfortable with the old Cinematic on OLED — for me, even the Balanced version feels like a flashbang now (in SDR), and there’s a lot of detail lost in the highlights.
Balanced and Cinematic deliver a more dramatic visual impact due to the strong contrast between bright and dark areas, but that comes at a cost: you lose a lot of subtle detail, and over time, it’s much more tiring on the eyes.
Also, if you compare it side by side with no ReShade, you’ll notice my presets add a lot of extra brightness — so depending on your display, it might not be the most ideal setup.
Of course, every screen is its own beast, and everyone’s setup is different. I try to keep mine as calibrated and natural as possible, but I totally get that personal preference plays a huge role.
I’m not sure yet if I’ll make additional variants for 3.2 like I did for 3.1, but in any case, all previous versions will always stay available for download.
So if you’re happy with 3.1 Cinematic, feel free to stick with it — no one’s forced to update. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡° )
i got them both, i do enjoy the beta ver. i just added some contrast to keep it more cinematic. im altering between the 2 because i cant decide which i like more D;. no pressure to make anything new; you got a great base point for me to keep tweaking to my liking :) thankyou
Glad you’re enjoying both! Honestly, tweaking the preset is exactly what I expected some people would do — no preset can cover every personal taste, so I’m happy you’re making it your own.
By the way, I’ve been considering releasing a special “build version” of the preset. Here’s how it works:
It includes the base LUT plus the Lightroom.fx effect I use to create and fine-tune the look.
I do all the adjustments inside ReShade using Lightroom.fx, then I capture the LUT output, crop it in Photoshop (or any other image editor), and export it to a 4096x64 png LUT image.
That LUT image is what I plug into LUT.fx for the final preset.
If I release the build version, people could use Lightroom.fx directly inside ReShade to tweak things themselves and generate their own custom LUTs (with some effort, of course — it’s not a simple slider flip). And of course, if I release it, I’d also prepare a tutorial showing step by step how to do it.
Would that be something you’d actually want to use? I’m curious if there’s enough interest to make it worth preparing. ¯\_( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)_/¯
i would absolutely use it! i love your work. if you look at my profile media images on here, my latest post have all been with your cinematic preset. (minor tweaks with light magic bloom and local contrast fx. for more detail emphasis)
That’s awesome to hear! Really appreciate the support — love knowing you’re already using the cinematic preset and having fun tweaking it with your own touches.
I’ll definitely keep the build version + tutorial idea in mind; sounds like something you’d enjoy messing with. ( ͡~ ͜ʖ ͡° ) Thanks again for the great vibes!
P.S. Just a heads-up: v3.2 will likely never see a full release — I’m shifting focus to v4.0, which will take advantage of RenoDX for even better results. Big things ahead! 😏
Absolutely, it’d be a pleasure to have you share your best shots — I’d love to see them up on the profile so others can witness it in all its glory! (。•̀ᴗ-)✧
Right now, I’m working on an HDR version, and once I get it polished enough for beta, I’ll start refining and correcting some remaining color inconsistencies. HDR in this game is terrible, not even RenoDX can save it. (╯‵□′)╯︵┻━┻
So, expect some updates over the next few days — we’re just getting started.
I am using your all in one version well to my taste.
I want to use beta 4.0, but I am using the mo2 program.
According to your article, I need to download reshade and renoDX and put them in the game folder. Can I use this with MO2? ALL IN ONE was installed and ran well in MO2 without any complicated process.
If the above method is not the right way, do you plan to release ALL IN ONE of V4? I always appreciate your hard work.
Yes, you can absolutely use v4.0 with MO2 — just make sure you install ReShade with add-on support for the game, then extract all the required files (ReFramework + RenoDX + v4.0 preset) directly into the game folder (next to the .exe).
If you run into any issues, let me know! I can consider uploading a preinstalled ReShade version if needed. One way or another, we’ll get v4 running for you. ( ͡~ ͜ʖ ͡° )
Looking at the description of the 3.2 beta version, it seems to be a case of using a QD-OLED monitor. I wonder if it is a mode that can be applied to general monitors as well.
If you mean “is this preset only for QD-OLED monitors?” — the answer is no.
I just used a QD-OLED to fine-tune the details, since my old monitor was hiding a lot. The preset is made for SDR and works on any regular display. You might notice some differences depending on your display’s quality, but it’s absolutely not limited to QD-OLED. If I ever make a version specifically for HDR, I’ll mention it clearly in the description.
Reshade keeps "reloading" for no reason for me. I don't even know how to accurately describe the problem. Every few seconds, my game freezes briefly, I see the reshade logo on the top left, the shaders disappear, then everything is back to normal. Happens multiple times every minute. It might also be a problem with reshade itself. Anyone else having this problem?

Because people skip reading short ones, too. 🙃

You’ll be happy to know the v4.0 beta is already live — go grab it and see what you think!
Curious to hear how you feel about it, especially coming from the LCPD setup. Your feedback’s always welcome!
P.S. Don’t forget to check the instructions for v4 — it works differently now and requires RenoDX!
