Konami just updated MGS V so mods that use 01.dat will temporarily cease working.

Give modders a few days to sort out what needs to be done (rework files and add them to 01.dat, add a new .dat, or something else ???) and check back for updates.

    Thanks

EDIT - THIS Mod is on temporary hiatus until I can find a tool that will work with the new files.

Doesn't seem that they cease to work, I manually re-added the mod to my 01.dat and it worked, but prevented the new Security Unit NVGs from appearing in my Security Devices list, so I wasn't able to research them. Seems the mod simply needs to be updated to the latest version of the necessary files, and it should work fine!

Great news! So I'll just need to get the updated LUAs out of 00.dat and fix them up. Thanks

Okay, it seems as if the only changes were made within the tpp_weapon.eng.lng2 file, but it's encoded and therefore really difficult to copy over to the modified version. I was able to load the mod fine without the included lua file, and in fact removing the lua file allowed the new NVGs to show up, but of course without names or descriptions. I'm gonna try to edit this myself but as for what you need to look for, there ya go!

EDIT: You know what's really strange though? I thought it was my own error, but it seems like adding 2c91cbff1005.fpk to 01.dat, no matter the contents, even if you pull it right from chunk0.dat, it causes the NVG names and descriptions to go missing. Never seen anything like it. It's not a huge problem, I much prefer having real world weapon names, as I'll never even look in the Security Devices list after the new NVGs are developed, but it's still a bug I'd like to get to the bottom of sometime.

There's an updated 2c91cbff1005.fpk file with (presumably) new language files with additional entries for the new gear, BUT I can't seem to unpack that .fpk file for some reason... so I can't even try to convert the .lng2 files. SIGH I hate when games update.

I can add my existing mod to 01.dat to overwrite the new one, but the problem with missing file names will persist. When I try update the vehicles names and repack it then the whole game locks at the loading screen. Dammit all

I think we need a new FPK tool to work with the new FPKs inside 00.dat :/

That's a shame, I guess we'll have to wait for a new FPK tool. For now, I'm fine with having the new NVGs not have names and descriptions, and otherwise the game seems to work fine if I still use the modded FPK, so perhaps recommend that if people would like to use it - despite a little bit of wonkiness it'll cause - to simply not use the LUA file that comes with the mod?

Yep absolutely if you don't mind a few missing text labels then you can just use the 2c91cbff1005.fpk file and leave OUT the other lua file (which was conflicting with other mods anyway and did very very little in this mod - just changed one name and one description pointer)

Um, I tried to extract the 2c91cbff1005.fpk from the 00.dat using FPK tool 1.2 and it worked just fine x_x I'm pretty sure it's the updated one since all the weapon names are default, and it came from the updated 00.dat.

I'm having problems with that file for whatever reason. I'll give it another go and see if it will extract now (no idea what's up - it's probably something with my Win 8.1 install since I occasionally have other issues when working with files on the C drive)

What's the current issue with updating this mod? Anyone know? I've wanted real weapon names to work since I found out years ago that they dropped it in a gameplay demonstration. Would be down to put in the work to get this updated, I just need a place to start and a clue as to what's stopping it from working.

    Hi everyone!

Does anyone know how to modify/edit the Grade stars/dashes from the sortie screen menu?

Maybe there is a file which I need to able to fix this on how to let the game show all the stars/dashes from the sortie screen menu... For example ( --***-*- ) it shows the Grades 3, 4, 5 and 7. Because right now mine is just ( -***-* ) Grades 2, 3, 4, 6. And there is no 7 and 8 stars/dashes.

So what file should be edited in order to show the two dashes(not upgraded) and stars(if upgraded)

    Thank you.

Hey guys. Sorry, but I am not currently working on this or any of my Metal Gear Solid mods.

IRL the company I work for was bought out by a multinational corporation so my time is extremely limited. To make matters worse I finished MGS V and I was completely dissatisfied with both the "endings". Great game in my opinion but it has a TERRIBLE campaign and a dumb ending (your opinions may differ). I am doing a little modding on the side, but not for this game. Once Fallout 4 comes out I will be off messing with that. Then the holidays and so forth.

So that's a long winded way of saying "this mod will likely not be updated for a long time"

If anyone wants to update the most current files for MGS V I would not only be eternally grateful and add them to the downloads, but more importantly I would be happy to give you full credit for updating the mod and keeping it alive.

Thanks so much and hope you guys are enjoying the game still.

      Hello jvarnes.

Where are the weapon language files located? I may be interested in taking up the mantle for this mod.

Thanks for your time and for the updating us on the status of this mod.

      Hi Greygh0st

      Thanks for your offer

So the file 2c91cbff1005.fpk contains .lng2 files which contain all of the text for the game. You *should* (in theory) be able to extract the updated verion of this file from 00.dat

Atvaark had a langauge tool which could convert those files (found here https://github.com/Atvaark/FoxEngine.TranslationTool). Hopefully it all still works. I think the weapon file was tpp_weapon.eng.lng2 though buddy weapons and vehicles are handled in another file. I don't have my notes and I'm not near my home PC so I can't verify any of this unfortunately.

If you do not find 2c91cbff1005.fpk when unpacking then it likely means the files actual name has been found and added to the dictionary text. Unfortunatley I don't know what it's real name actually is so some hunting around will be in order to find it...

      Good luck!

Im extremely glad there was someone out there that made something like this. That bothered me so much to see MGS loose that bit of realism of real life firearm names. Something a simple mod can fix. Modding community is just f*#@ing amazing. Hopefully this mod can start working again with the new update! Cant wait to use it.

Latest update added new weapons, this mod will need to update to accomodate for them. In fact, I've re-installed this mod (update removes all mods) and now the new weapons don't appear in the developments tab. Cheers

Some level 7 weapons they activated. There are still some level 8 ones that will presumably be added at a later date as well.

(They're not NEW weapons, just enhanced versions of existing ones)

Sorry I wasn't directing that at you (it's often hard to tell from text messages) I just meant in general it seems like there are no completely brand new weapons (which is a little sad)

You should consider leave the tranq pistol name as it is as well as the grenades. I don't recall seeing weapons name with the prefix "tranq" before IMO something like "Mosin Nagant-T" or "T-Mosin Nagant" looks cleaner and follows what it's been done in previous games like MGS2 (PSG1-T)
Great work, just my 2 cents.
