Will this work with crouch walk?

I can never give a 100% guarantee with other mods, but I see no reason this shouldn't work with the crouch walk mod.

A few things I don't understand. When you die with Permadeath or Persistent wounds on ,what happens? Does it delete your save? When I die with just persistent wounds on, my game hard crashes to desktop. What's supposed to happen? Are you supposed to reload from a previous checkpoint? If so, do you get your health back? If that's the case, wouldn't trying to run for a loading screen benefit you if you're taking damage, as if you die, you'll just restart there with full health again?

I still don't know how permadeath works, other than you just return to main menu, meaning you need to reload from a previous codec save, correct? Please let me know what to do about the hard crash after dying to persistent wounds being on. I would really like to stream the game with this mod.

As far as what's supposed to happen with permadeath: if you load a save with more than 0 continues or if you die and press continue, Snake will continuously and endlessly die on spawn. You're correct that in order to continue, you must return to main menu and load a save with 0 continues.

In regards to permanent damage: it's true that you could absolutely just trick the game with checkpoint abuse and reloading saves to get health back - but in order for me to do anything about that would require a lot of time and effort I simply don't have to spare. I was unaware of any crashing being caused by this option, so I'll dig into this and see what's causing it - if you could DM me here with details of what exactly you were doing in the game/what combination of options you had running when they happened that would help me greatly in getting a fix out ASAP.

Sure. I tested a new save and an old save. Dying by crocodiles and sinking sand in Dremuchij proved to have no problems. Game over seen with continue, loading in the same zone with the last bit of health you had left before dying. Throwing a grenade at yourself is successful. It seems to be any attacks via knife, gunfire, or explosion by a guard that causes the game to crash to desktop.

Side note: the "no pause" option is awkward since your guy moves around a lot while trying to select different weapons and items.

Other side note: if persistent wounds is enabled, does that mean if you die with ten percent health left, you're stuck with that health for the rest of the game? Cutscenes where you sleep, or using stamina to slowly rebuild health isn't an option anymore?

Okay, I'll do some more extensive testing on that aspect and see if I can reproduce the issue and get a fix done. Thanks for the info!

Yeah, unfortunately the awkward "no pause" behavior is the best we can do at the moment. If we can find a way to prevent Snake from moving at all I will absolutely implement it, but we haven't been able to find that yet. This behavior is unique to MGS3 due to how it was designed - this behavior does not happen in MGS2 where I have implemented MGS2 Hardcore.

And yes, that's correct. There are certainly ways to "trick" the system, but that is how it is designed.

I've identified the source of the crash, as well as a few other small bugs while I was digging around. I've just deployed a fix to the code responsible for the problems - you should automatically be prompted to download the update the next time you launch MGS3 Hardcore.

Please let me know if you have any other issues, and I hope you enjoy playing with the mod!

Everything seems like it's working now! On a side note, is permadeath supposed to kick you to desktop? It makes sense, as a punishment, I suppose. Just making sure that's intentional. Thanks!

No, the game crashing is never an intended behavior. I haven't seen crashing from permadeath in any of my testing - can you help me reproduce the issue by telling me what options you have enabled and where you are in the game when experiencing the crashes?

I managed to find an edge-case that was causing crashing with permadeath. I've identified a fix for it, but I would like to make sure I'm catching the behavior you're experiencing in the update - so once I've gotten the info from you I can verify if I've fixed it and deploy another update

It seems to be whenever you die and go to the game over screen and press continue it crashes to desktop, for me.

Okay, hopefully what I found will fix the issue for you. I published another update just now, again it should automatically update the next time you launch MGS3 Hardcore.

Not sure where to put requests, but is it possible to add even more restrictions? Such as no camo switching (other than the required ones [scientist, Raikov]? Basically, you're stuck with the camo you start the game with, making it more realistic.

Another one I'd like is even less ammo. Tranquing guards is super easy, but conserving ammo would make it a true survival game. Maybe holding only a certain amount of ammo per weapon.

Since you can't heal, maybe certain markers in the game are your "rest points" where you get a full heal, such as all the times Snake sleeps during the story.

Healing over time via stamina should be allowed.

Cigars don't drain health, they drain stamina.

Batteries do not regenerate over time. More limited batteries.

Moving the d-pad sneak to the analogue stick as one of the inner rings.

Are you able to add more guards or remove certain weapon pickups to make it even harder and fresh?

Adding more guards is pretty far out of what we're able to do with MGS modding right now as far as I'm aware.

Removing weapon pickups is likely possible with what we've learned so far though - however that's out-of-scope for this mod. Removing/adding/changing weapon pickups needs to be done through the game's internal files, this mod just modifies live values.
