I'm not sure why, but I'm still getting YAML's night vision showing up. Load order manager shows a conflict with Von Biomes, but I have this set to override. Is this something anyone has ran into before?

EDIT: well, no clue why but disabling all mods except this one, then re-enabling them one by one worked to resolve this.

This is nice but the weird distortion/grain effect hurts my eyes, is there a way to just make the vision clear/normal?

It is possible to make a version that clears out the effect. I haven't messed with this game in around half a year, but if I find time, I can see about making it. Some adjustments to video settings and/or brightness and contrast on the display may also help, although I can't say for sure.

So first up, this mod is amazing! I don't know if this was intentional but I am always switching in and out of NVG on missions to see specific details on enemy mechs and it adds a nice dichotomy to the gameplay.

I have one request though! Is there some way for me to make the NVGs a lower quality than what you have right now? I personally want this because I would like to add some sort of trade-off to using the NVGs.

I'm glad you are enjoying the mod! I think the easiest way to be able to play with the NVG effect would be to grab the YAML source code and build a new mod using just their code for the night vision. It's been a long time since I messed with it, but it's formatted in a visual way that allows simple or complex changes to be made fairly easily. The nightmare portion of it is having to deal with Unreal editor and its incredibly long load times.

Try combining this mod with just the scanline/vignette mods from NVGs.

Sweet!  I was always disappointed with night vision.  At the very best of times it was borderline useless because everything is just black.  The sky is bright greenish-white and then everything else is a sea of ink.  This is much nicer.  And feels far less "cheaty" than either of the thermal vision modes.

I'm glad you are liking it! The vanilla night vision is horrible. I never found a situation where it was an improvement over normal vision, so I wanted to mess around and see if anything could be done about that.

Hello, sorry I haven't been around for a while. I don't know what merctech adds to the game, but I would expect this mod to do no harm to try with it. It only adjusts the settings in the file for the night vision mode. You may need to play with the mod order to ensure this loads after, so it can have an effect.

A funny story. Well funny for me at least. I'm back playing this game after about two years away from it and I've forgotten a ton of sh1t. I was testing out some mods in Instant Action and they put me in a hellscape at night with extreme weather. I was blind for all intents and purposes. And you see because it had been so long since I played, I forgot the game provided night vision. So I'm thinking "well this is just bullshit that they expect you to fight like this" and I went searching for a mod that added headlamps. I didn't want to use YAML for certain reasons. I found a headlamp mod and was changing the keybinding to what I use for every light and torch in every game I play, and low and behold the game tells me "You can't use that key because it's already bound to night vision."

Oh. Night vision. The game has it.

So I went back into Instant Action and recreated the hellstorm just to re-familiarize myself with fighting in all green. It was moderately helpful but (as the author of this mod and I'm sure many others can attest) it has some major drawbacks as well.

Well to make a long story short I found this mod by accident, tested it, and it makes a world of difference. This night vision mod is exactly how it should be in the base game. Thanks so much for it.

The description says it doesn't require YAML, but does it work with YAML? I know that might be a stupid question, but over the years I've found out that modders are often very weird about some things. Also, have you tried it with the advanced zoom mod?

I run it with YAML, so no problems with compatibility there. I have not tried it with the version of Advanced Zoom that has the center zoom screen that pops up, but I do use the Simple Zoom version of that mod that just has more zoom levels, and that works fine. I would expect the Advanced version would work well also, but don't have the time right this moment to test it. If you find that this mod doesn't work well for you, it can be disabled or removed without messing with your save game, so it's worth a try.

Thank you for the reply! I'll let you know how it works out with the full version of advanced zoom.

Hey,thanks for the work on this mod. Let me tell you,I went on a infiltration mission a couple of days ago and it had a 'deluge' weather condition. So greyed-out and mucky you could not see more than 300 to 400 meters(maybe). So I hit the nightsight key and wham! I've got what appears to be a grey scaled vision of the terrain at full normal range. I took some snaps of that and other before-and-after. Made the difference for survival odds, let me tell you. Great addition to my small mod pile.

Awesome Mod! I always wanted the NVGs to clear out that fog. This mod is not currently compatible with VonBiomes 5/18/2023

I downloaded the current VonBiomes mod and made the change m3talpig suggested below of switching the load order of my mod to 25 so it loads after VonBiomes. I saw a few conflict errors for my mod and others with VonBiomes in my mod list, but that's just pieces of mods overriding or being overridden by it. It took ages to load a test battle (is this normal for that mod?), but once it did, the two seemed to play together well. I experienced no errors, and my night vision worked fine in the VonBiomes environment. Please give that load order change a try and see if everything works for you as well.

Thanks for this mod ....really has made a big difference and less eye strain, just a heads up though Von Biomes does overwrite your mod but i just changed the load order , Von Biomes is 24 changed your mod to 25 and all is well. Thanks again.

Awesome! I'm glad it helps, and thanks for the Von Biomes information.
