I want to like this pack, but the difficulty as a solo player is a bit much for me. I am sure it excels as a mod for 3-4 co-op players, since they can properly coordinate various roles. Having to work with the insanely bad game AI though (even with mods) just puts it a tad out of reach.
I kinda wish there was a way to adapt this better to a single player experience. I assume I could do something through some of the other mods, but then I risk also trivializing any base game content.
I play it solo. I dont see what the big deal is. People like to say its hard, but dont give examples as to how. OR they lie and say they were attacked by 10 assault mechs on a difficulty 8 mission lol.
My missions are the same difficulty as vanilla, save for a few outlying scenarios and of course the random events. A level 15 duel for example is not really harder then a lvl 15 warzone. It is if you just run straight at the enemies.
Regardless, i have did polls on the difficulty on the patreon and the people who pay me mostly voted to keep the difficulty where its at. And THATS the determining factor. Its not about my opinion.
Oh, I am most certainly on one of the highest difficulty missions. A 250 Rescue where I have to escort the tanks in, defend against incoming and then take down the base, followed by what seems to be and unlimited number of waves of enemies until reaching the pickup zone. Some things might make it easier without me needing to modify settings. Such as knowing where the extraction location is going to be ahead of time, but mission briefings are sadly something I only see in my legacy MW2 and MechCommander titles. I miss those features.
Today. I cheated a bit in order to get through it. By modifying several settings in YAML. I turned incoming damage down to half for my NPC lancemates and I also turned their + skill modifier up to ten. I also showed an extreme bias in weapon types. Most (but not all) ammo based weapon are trash in these missions. The length and number of waves you need to face screams, bring energy weapons. So everyone in my lance is leaning hard on high quality, long range energy weapons. Overall, this was slightly overkill and I could probably get through it with those settings lower. However, there is no way I can get through it using baseline settings. I might be able to do it with humans on my team, but I'm not sure about that. Without these settings changes, I was typically making it to the half way mark.
While the lancemates were better than ever, I find it hilarious that even with +10 modifiers on ALL of their skills, they still aren't close to a human player. Which leads me to believe that these 250s would be a ton of fun if I had 4 other people to play it with on a whim. I do not.
As far as skill goes, a pilots personal skill only takes them so far in MW5. After awhile, the opposition is going to grind you down through sheer numbers. No amount of torso twisting is going to save your butt. I part of me can't help but wonder what other players are doing in these missions. Are they doing what I did and mucky with YAML settings? Base game settings? Other mods (or a combination of all that)?
Having to screw with various settings for each set of missions is not out of the question for me, but it certainly demonstrates that things are a little off.
At the end of it all I had about 19 pages of mech salvage (I excluded weapon salvage or it would be another 10 pages).

55 mech kills 4 turrets 4 vehicles 25 air units

While this is a video game and extremes are part of games like this. I dare anyone to find another Battletech title where you face this much firepower while under command of a single lance. If anyone is curious I've played MechWarrior 2, MechWarrior 2 Mercs, MechCommander, MechCommander 2, MechWarrior 3, MechWarrior 4, MechAssault, MechWarrior Online and MechWarrior 5 (duh).
Well, the 250 difficulty missions are supposed to be VERY hard. There is nothing after them except starting over. Its very confusing to me really that someone would complain about THOSE missions being hard.
The whole concept of them is sort of like a bonus. More of a challenge then something to be taken seriously, as they dont offer any sort of progression for beating them, other then the hero mechs. If they didnt exist, youd have started over a career run already out of boredom from being too powerful. Them being hard gives u something to accomplish and reason to max out upgrades.
how does capture the enemy commander work? do you need to run up and hit E or something? he tends to end up dead and even with destroying the base and all other mechs, no payout/completion :/
Is there a way to move the hud location for the ASF call in because i would love to have it up in the top left instead as i play with YAML and i have so much stuff in my mech the weapons hud is high enough to start going underneath the ASF hud.
So how will I know when I get an upgrade point for the ASF? Do I just have to scan an area in a resource mission and hope for the best or is it something else? Curious because these things are so much fun to use and wanna add more guns to em!
Question: Is there any log file for which mod is responsible for the null mech deletion? I get a ton of those now, most say they have 0 BV. My timeline just crossed into clan invasion, I'm assuming lots are from CI mod, but... I've used Coyote and CI together before and aside from the occasional crash in mission there weren't THAT many spawn issues. I've also added a couple other mech mods - classic collection vs individual mods, YALM most notably... could be either of those, but it's hard to say?
It's getting to be enough of an issue that I would kick the responsible mod out if I knew which one. I just played a ground war where like half the mechs didn't spawn, including my side commander. That's a bit of a bummer when that happens...
This is the spawn section from the save of that mission.... looks... off? Are the 400+ mechs the ones it can choose from or what it tries to spawn? I definitely didn't see any MAD-IICs in there, and there seem to be so many of them...
I'm pretty sure it's a problem with the Classic Mech Collection mod. Not 100% certain yet but I've run 3 Clan missions with it deactivated and haven't had a mech deletion or floating leopard yet
EDIT: Nope never mind, got one with just YACM and YALM running
Hello, Started a new campaign with some friends utilizing this, YAML (and add-ons), vonbiomes, and the coop unlocked + fix from phforNZ, it seems when we acquire an ASF it causes the coop players to be unable to access any menus and if they try to through using the terminals everything is blank and broken. specifically we have only tried getting the ASF in Fairfax but between the original campaign and a campaign restart thinking it was mod order issues, we narrowed it down to when we unlocked the ASF.
Not Sure if the Ground war is intended this way or it's some sort of a bug ( i doubt it is ). So Whenever i try to flank the enemy during Ground War mission the moment i fire a single shot all the enemy mechs just don't bother fighting my ally AI and rush towards me and my lance which turns into a 4v15 and my Allies instead moving forward and shooting the enemy just stay back and hold the line not bothered that i am getting smashed. On the other hand if i do try to fight with the allies in "their" line ( blob ) formation i get singled out by every single mech that can see me. Feels a bit terrible when there's 12 mechs on the board and my lance gets singled out even if i make sure to sit well behind covers as at this point the enemy just rushes my position ignoring 8 ally mechs.
I don't know just doesn't feel like a Ground "war" when all the enemies don't care about allies if they see me and if they don't my allies get obliterated.
Edit: I do not use any Ai mods , the only mod i can think would influence my allies sitting in one place as a blob of mechs is Von Biomes although they still do it if the map is a flat plane with no obstacles.
Thats just the way the games aggro system works. It does this on all missions, unless i make my own targeting AI for the enemies, which even my special AI in some of my missions use the vanilla aggro system still.
Overhauling the AI in the game is on the current poll on my patreon. If it wins ill work on the AI. If not, then not much i can do about it right now.
Yeah, I really wish the game's own AI was just plain better. So often I end up with my 'Mech like Swiss cheese while my lancemates are virtually undamaged (I don't play co-op).
Yeah, the way to avoid that is just not firing at enemies. Aggro dies down after like 4-6 seconds, as long as your lancemates are doing damage. So, once the enemies focus on them again you fire at the enemies for a few seconds then hide behind cover and repeat.
Highly exploitable when your using lighter fast SRM mechs. You can backstab enemies alot once you know exactly what the AI are gunna do.
Damn , i never knew that it's how the Ai works , While it seems to work on small scale it does show a lot when enemy mech numbers exceed the "indented" ? 4-6 lance sized groups. I do wish you well with the patreon to reach the goals you set ( might actually subscribe since having a better Ai would make those mission one of the best probably ). Anyhow , Wish ya luck.
The idea is really cool, but it makes no fucking sense. It is so stupidly hard it makes the game not fun anymore. It's just frustrating. Really like the idea of having more mission types and the Fighters, but fighting against dozens of assault on a lvl 60 difficult just makes no sense to me.
Thats because its meant to be way harder. If u dont like a challenge, then dont play it. It aint getting changed ever, not when the people who pay me want it this way.
I'm not playing this game to be frustrated. At least, I recommend you to change the numbers showed on difficulty. It makes no sense to be able to do a lvl 80-90 difficulty and suddently not being able to do a 60.
I downloaded it for the variation, not the "challenge". Having to fight hordes of assault is just stupid to me.
I cant change the difficulty number of the mission. The way PGI coded mech spawning is in difficulty brackets, where 60 difficulty means medium and heavy mechs will take the majority spawns.. You will get occasional assults. If i made the Multi-role ASF mission from 60 to 90, then medium mechs would not be able to spawn into the mission.
I didnt want the multi-role ASF mission to have you face nothing but assault mechs, so its 60 difficulty to prevent that. To make the numbers be just a visual change would require overriding of game files other mods use. Hands are tied.
You can think the mod is stupid all you want. Top 5 most endorsed mod and people backing me monetarily. Trying to convince me im doing something wrong here is a waste of time when the results are all showing me im doing everything right.
Thumbs up for this mod !! I would not play the game anymore without it.
A small hint for HristValkyrie: Just lower the incoming damage for your lance, for that specific mission, via YAML difficult settings, and enjoy the game. ^^
I think there should be at least one Striker mission that isn't in the 80+ range. Sure, the Striker ASF has the best air-to-ground capabilities, but it isn't a beat-all since it's the most expensive to repair.
By the way, when or where would I expect to face enemy ASFs (if they exist)?
They dont exist yet. Balance testing them would be a nightmare and the couple guys that balance test for me have been kinda silent lately. So im busy working on other aspects of the mod.
Hostile ASF's may or may not be a thing in the future. Unknown yet.
Hostile ASF's also didnt win in the patreon poll. So, people arent all too enthusiastic about them.
I want to defend Coyote here a bit. I (like YOU OP) felt 100% the same way. Heck I did my fair share of whining in a post below..LOL
Where you learn to love the difficulty is that Coyote missions fight the power creep.. late game there is nothing that puts up a fight and game would be mega boring.
Once you build the strength and can beat some tough end game missions it becomes clear just how much this mod does to extend the enjoyment.
Main point is respect the mission stating this will be difficult etc. Do other missions get stronger and trust me you come back to brick wall mission and smash it.
Yeah i just had another poll going on right now and put ASF's on it for enemies and it didnt get a single vote. People ARE interested in them though, but they would rather me focus on other stuff.
I saw a comment on Reddit that said you were looking at the possibility of adding landmines into some of your maps. I honestly wish the game baseline had them; they'd serve as a good reason to keep some Light 'Mechs in your roster if they work like Vibrobombs.
If you can pull it off, that'd honestly be a cool "love to hate" addition to your maps. Just try to make them mutually exclusive with artillery barrages; facing both at the same time would be goddamn obnoxious.

Each scan location has a chance.
That's a bit of a bummer when that happens...
spawn? I definitely didn't see any MAD-IICs in there, and there seem to be so many of them...

I attempted to put info on screen of what mech they are, but it doesnt work.
Youd have to give the log to one of those other mods. Nothing i can do to fix other peoples mechs.
I'm going to mess with them and see if I can find the culprit.
EDIT: Nope never mind, got one with just YACM and YALM running
I don't know just doesn't feel like a Ground "war" when all the enemies don't care about allies if they see me and if they don't my allies get obliterated.
Edit: I do not use any Ai mods , the only mod i can think would influence my allies sitting in one place as a blob of mechs is Von Biomes although they still do it if the map is a flat plane with no obstacles.
It is so stupidly hard it makes the game not fun anymore. It's just frustrating.
Really like the idea of having more mission types and the Fighters, but fighting against dozens of assault on a lvl 60 difficult just makes no sense to me.
A small hint for HristValkyrie: Just lower the incoming damage for your lance, for that specific mission, via YAML difficult settings, and enjoy the game. ^^
By the way, when or where would I expect to face enemy ASFs (if they exist)?
So im busy working on other aspects of the mod.
Hostile ASF's may or may not be a thing in the future. Unknown yet.
Hostile ASF's also didnt win in the patreon poll. So, people arent all too enthusiastic about them.
People ARE interested in them though, but they would rather me focus on other stuff.
If you can pull it off, that'd honestly be a cool "love to hate" addition to your maps. Just try to make them mutually exclusive with artillery barrages; facing both at the same time would be goddamn obnoxious.
They would have to be fair and fun. If i cant manage to do that then there is no point.
