The game gets really easy at the start with this mod (seems to also screw with the Tutorial but that's fixed by not activating it until after the Drone targeting is done, for those who need a new game due to mods) but imo that's perfectly fine; early on is more about farming up those C bills to get into harder areas with better mechs - and once you get there, the sheer number of mechs with higher tonnage offsets the loss of annoying air units that deal excessive damage.
Thanks a lot for this mod. MechWarrior has always been a "mech vs mech" game. Not "mech vs hordes of cockroaches and flies." Unfortunately, the developers did not hear about this and masked the flaws in game design with hordes of crawling and flying insects.
How sad one must be to feel the need to resort to this much cheating? VTOL's are literally the squishiest unit in the entire goddamn game. Even Igor's can be downed in one shot when you shoot either one of the engines >_>
Good on you for coming here just to express your elitism!
Yes, this mod is a cheat, and it is labeled as such. While it's true that flying targets are squishy, it also means you need to target them in the first place. Which means the builds you make for mechs, especially lighter mechs, are going to need to consider flyers especially in early stages when you lack money and high-tier equipment.
Personally, one of the major reasons I went ahead with this mod was to eliminate the trail of flying units that would stalk my light mech through raids. With this mod, I can forego any inclusion of lasers on my PB-Locust and kit it with MGs and Flamers.
It changes the way the game plays, not simply for the sake of difficulty, but for the sake of enjoyment.
Flying units are not difficult. Just annoying, and un-fun :)
I would love if you could make a version of this mod that is only active in the 'space biome'. I dont want to lower difficulty just increase realism. It makes no sense that helicopters and jet powered vtols function in space where there is no atmosphere for them to push down to produce lift. Tbh its an oversight kinda like if they would have plants in space! >XD
Thanks for confirming this too. I've had the same experience. I might consider a version of this mod that removes them from the rotation, assuming I can figure that out.
SO MUCH BETTER!!! You saved the game for me and my friend. The VTOLs play like a virus; annoying, unrealistic, unfun. Perfect name for this mod!!! We were so tired of stopping, clearing out VTOLs, then hustling before any more spawn. Very useful and a great achievement. Have you considered doing the same for tanks and platforms? I just like fighting mechs much better. The tanks are like floating guns with tiny hit boxes, especially in the first three levels, compared to the massive hitbox of the mech. Thanks for taking the time.
Hey! So glad it made the game more fun for you guys :)
Also yes, I did consider it but it turned out to be a bit more complex. I put a few hours of work into actually figuring out how to implement this one, but the actual code change is a literal single number. (Changing a 0 to a 0.1)
The way tanks are summoned works differently, and the same change isn't possible, so I didn't know how to make it work for tanks. I may try again sometime, but hopefully someone else has the same idea!

Overall, I really like this mod. Thanks!
I'll update my page with your note about the tutorial too, thanks for pointing that out!
