Wow. I had no idea someone had made a new version of the old Mech 2 intro I knew and loved from so long ago as a kid. Great seeing new video with the old soundtrack and voices. Even this little intro story is more interesting than a modern day default Mech game - And the spirit to make a great game is there as Mechwarrior 2 was!
I wish they'd left in the nuke type explosion when the Atlas goes down though, but nice to see. I'll defo use this in place of the intro.
I found out you can convert this into a .bk2 with RAD video tools. Then you can replace a video with it.
You first convert to .bik and simply rename the extension .bk2 like the other videos.
I'm thinking of replacing the titlescreen video instead of the intro videos. Maybe cut the video so it starts after some of the intro stuff. Would look good looping in the background. I tested it as is and the menu music completely cuts off the sound of the video so no issues there. Might be because of the music mod so needs more testing.
Still, it's a good simple replacer for the intro videos when starting a career, something you can sit through once and enjoy.
Update: I clearly don't know what I'm doing lol. Replacing the title screen video works, at first. If you enter another menu and return, like options for example, it freezes the video lol. Oh well, you can still easily use it as a intro video when you start a new career. Works perfectly fine there.
I like the remake intro, and especially with re-imagined dropship intro when it gives the communication, but i do not enjoy it enough ttho to make it as my main intro for MW5 at my everyday use, simply because, it still has a couples of details that needs to be worked on, im pretty sure this could be reworked more, so the details would achieve this exact replica and pass a certain reproduction quality, if ever somone whants to give it a shot those would be the examples of what could be done to achieve it:
-The friendly mech involved in the 2nd scene is supposed to be a Zeus.
-Some audio/animations doesn't sync well in the video and would need a fix (specifically the gunfire's sounds are desynced from what we see)
-Missing Effect needs to be added (ex: Some missing laser fire exchange with the commando and catapult from the 1st person view when the commando is entering the Ship)
-And Finally some extra visual effects would need to be added/modified:
(Suggestion 1: Under-video caption and MW2 remake titles in the intro is unnecessary, it would be best that the video had a outro instead showing MW5 when its done similar to the original)
(Suggestion 2: for the closeup's shot the atlas receives could be more cinematic and have more explosive)
(Suggestion 3: The commando cockpit view looks stretched and weird, at this point, a copy/paste of the game visual details could had been done & applied to the 1st person view as post-effect editor like Adobe After Effect CS5 for an added layer of realism)
(Suggestion4: Need to add a Screen Shake Effect and hud distortion for first person view cockpit when the commando gets hit whit one of the projectiles)
But even with all that said, the quality and job done on it so far is quite a great work and i do recognize it, but if ever we get this done again with those oh man i would not say no to replace my current game loading for this intro !
Oh I agree it is very well done. I cheered out loud when I saw this uploaded lol. I'd much rather watch this cinematic then what we originally got. This really takes me back.
