Take it this is currently broken from the HOTIS update? Tried installing it with the Mod Compat patch, and started immediately getting low grade crashes referencing a RGB compatibility file it was not finding. Based on the comment dates, I'm not seeing any traffic from post HOTIS, so, one plus one probably equals two here, but, figure it's best to make sure and ask since this looks genuinely quite cool, and if I'd miss out from the lack of it, since the base game lacks that concept strangely.

Your debug key is currently set to backslash \, however MercTech uses the same key for switching ammo types. Do you think you could rebind it to something else or add the option for us to rebind it ourselves? Thank you, this is an excellent mod and a must have!

Sorry, didnt see this, merctech also allows ctrl number combo for ammo switching. If its a big deal, I could make it customizable.

I think you're missing a key on one of the campaign missions. On the ambush map (on Cavanaugh?) a bug notification came up saying it didn't recognize the environment combination.

Other than that, I haven't seen any real issues. Great work.

    Hello,
i wanted to say that your Mod has a bug in Frozen Levels. I have 7 Heat at the start of the Map and it never vanishes!
    Thnx

Hey cimmer999, How did you pull this off? I've been trying to do this myself and getting no where because I'm new to modding. Did you add blueprints, tables, etc.? I'd love to get some insight on how to get into more adventitious editting.

There is an actor that modifies each mech's cooling rate as they spawn based on the environment.

Does the biome modifier stand out as a little extreme compared to the others? Going from 0.7 to 1.5 when the others are from about 0.85 to 1.15? Just in gameplay terms this really incentivises to only play on ice maps, haha.

Plus I would expect the atmosphere to have a stronger impact or at least work non-linearly with the biome type: for example if the biome is cold or hot, but is a vacuum, then your heat dissipation will suck regardless because the HS need a medium to work effectively. Normal atmosphere would allow biome temp to become more of a factor in cooling. Then all the way to a thick atmosphere, the biome type will have its effect on cooling magnified more than the normal.

Fair point, suggestions for new modifiers? Although in terms of incentives, playing hot maps can be advantageous as well if you bring the right loadout because the heat affects all mechs, not just your own.

Haha, fair point about the enemy mechs
For the modifiers, are you limited to a product of the biome/atmo/time or can you have a table of specific values (would mean having to do all the combinations)? eg
      Ice/Vacuum/Day = 0.9
      Desert/Vacuum/Day = 0.8
      Ice/ Normal/Day = 1.2
      Desert/Normal/Day = 0.9 ....
Alternatively, make atmo the largest variable of the modifiers, with extreme = 1/1.1 down to vacuum at something like 0.7/0/6/0.5 (needs playtest, just a suggestion)

I had actually thought about combinations as, like you, I felt the math was a bit simplistic. I've just been busy making big explosions in the Hellfire mod. :) Thanks for the feedback, I'll think about how to best incorporate.

Now the real question is, are PGI going to update the mission generator so that on vacuum atmo there arent trees growing and clouds in the sky on these maps!

Yeah, they implied that a real vacuum implementation is coming, but didnt make the cut this release.

I think it is good to have strong noticeable effects - if you then just play on ice maps, this is still your decision:)
It is good that it really matters, it influences your choice of mech, how you pilot it etc. This creates variety and a little bit of strategic decisions what you gonna take with you.

Adjusted the biome impact by bounding which atmospheric pressures could be associated with each biome.

Minor point of feedback - I occasionally get "vacuum" levels that have visible green plants and trees...could we negate the "vacuum" effect in those cases?

Thanks, that's exactly what I'm looking for. Are you seeing these in campaign mode? Do you have a system name where it is happening?

Sorry, I should have written it down. Yes, it s in campaign mode, it was just a random (non-campaign, non-high-value) mission. I'll keep my eyes peeled for it in the future.

Yeah, I am seeing the vacuum on clearly air-breathing world. I will also check to see what worlds I get this value on :).

Great mod - this was needed and welcomed and adds yet another level of immersion to the game!

The mod is great! However, I have found that every single mission in the campaign no matter what is always Atmospheric Density Vacuum (0.85)

This awesome. Do you plan on removing the message that pops up at mission start in future iterations? It was a bit jarring, to be completely honest. But seriously this is fantastic.

Yep, says it right in the popup, will be be removed when this goes to v1.0. In the description says this a beta release. :)

      Hopefully within the week.

In 1.0 it still would be great to have some information or a hotkey to show the info. It has a direct influence on how to best pilot the mech.
(I would not even mind having the popup in at mission start, doesn't interfere since it is only on screen for a moment:)

Thank you for this mod. I am looking forward to try it out. :-)

But please explain to me... why do you have an negative heat - dissipation in a vacuum? This occurs in a planetoid-with-no-atmosphere-biome, right? That means it has to be... pretty cold. I think. Or did I got the numbers wrong?

Half right. No atmosphere doesn't necessarily mean it's cold, for example when sunlight hits the moon's surface, the temperature can reach 260 degrees Fahrenheit (127 degrees Celsius). When the sun goes down, temperatures can dip to minus 280 F (minus 173 C). The reason there is a negative heat dissipation coefficient associated with a vacuum is because for the most part, heat sinks need something to actually dissipate their heat energy into. With no atmosphere the process of getting rid of heat becomes substantially more complicated and what may be an excellent heat dissipation system in a certain atmosphere may be extremely ineffective in a zero atmosphere environment.
