I can confirm that if you have YAML turned on until the transmission "hey, I'm back" comes up, save, and then turn YAML off (and restart, of course), you can claim goblin with original stats and voice lines. Re-enabling YAML after claiming him does not alter him, as YAML seems to only check at the time the rewards are claimed.
This does, however, come with all the issues turning YAML on and off (and potentially back on again) would have, however. Be prepared to lose your engines.
Until I hear otherwise, this is the only way to truly re-goblin goblin. (If you update this mod, though, please do let me know!)
Just an hour ago, I discovered that Goblin had an OG portrait and wanted it back. Without looking, I stumbled across this mod. It was serendipity. Thank you!
Question: Does this just restore the face, or do you also restore the voice? My understanding was Coyote originally used Goblin's voice files to inject the voices he uses for the mission pack mod. That seems like it would cause significant mod conflicts.
One can see the conflicts it raises in the mod menu, but warranty void on download xD
I did not test this at all, was a quick request in YAML discord, so if someone wants to test and see if something in coyote doesn't work I am all ears.
Yeah, I know how to look at conflicts in the menu and with mod managers. I was thinking more of the actual results of said conflicts in game.
Speaking of which, conveniently I was already running some tests (as I, too, would like the vanilla Goblin restored). The portrait restoration seems fine after running a dozen or so coyote missions. I never saw Goblin's portrait pop up as the "Ship Ops" or as a patrol employer. The voice line restoration causes noteworthy problems, however. Here's what I found and maybe a possible solution or workaround:
First, when using 330's Pilot Overhaul, there's no way to re-select Goblin's original voice lines from what Coyote had changed them to.
Second, when doing any of the missions where Coyote had overwrote some of the vanilla voice lines, you can randomly get some Goblin voice lines instead of mission dialog. I ran into this with some patrol events as well as some resource exploration events, in the few missions I got to test.
That said, nofear (the author of 330's PO), was able to inject new voices . . . so theoretical solution. Find out how nofear injected the voice lines. Copy the vanilla Goblin lines from the editor as a new resource of voice lines in PO fashion and tell the vanilla Goblin pilot asset to reference that by default (name it something like "M5Goblin" instead of just "Goblin", so it's not confused with the Mechcommander pilot voice). In theory, the player should then be able to also use PO to restore an already obtained Goblin voice back to his vanilla voice; and a newly acquired Goblin would already reference the new asset.
If that's not doable (or not considered worth the effort), then the simplest workaround is to just make a version of your mod that only restores the portrait, but not the voice lines.
Sadly, ever since nofear figured out how to inject new voices, I was long hoping that Coyote would shift his voice lines over and restore Goblin himself, but that never happened. If you manage the feat with this mod, I'm sure you'd make a lot of people happy.
