I'm loving the mech, but I can't seem to equip any sort of melee weapon other than the basic types of fist. I assumed since this has melee specialization that I would be able to equip a dagger on my daggerman but for whatever reason can't. Was this intentional or is my mod just not working properly?
The Daggerman looks good. Some interesting builds in there, too, and great hardpoint variety. I will say it's a pity there's no non-lostech 3015 viable variants running around. Maybe a downgraded "A1" variant with SRM2s instead of SRM4s, or a "D1" with half the laser count? Another option would be to downgrade engines instead of firepower . . . most 3015 lights are running at 97kph, which would be a drop from 240 to 180 (that wouldn't even affect your JJ counts, since most have 5). Maybe a standalone "F" variant that mimics the Falcon 4N build (you've got the hardpoints already, too).
Just saying that, in lore, any chassis that didn't go extinct saw downgrades to accommodate the loss of tech through the succession wars; and your written lore does say there were a boatload of empty chassis sitting around waiting to be fielded. They would have been fielded (at least some, anyway).
Other minor critique. The size seems a little big. The height is pretty good, but when you add in the bulk it carries it seems like it takes up too much overall volume. Putting it in a lance with a Shadowhawk IIC, Firestarter, and Spider and it seemed overall bigger than it should have been . . . especially super beefy vs. the Spider.
Regardless, great stuff and looking forward to what else you've got cooking. Quick endorse.
EDIT/PS: If Tedwin is looking for chassis ideas to make, I've got a homebrew one that I've had floating around in personal use for years, but I have no modelling skill. I'd be happy to pass it along if interested. Feel free to reach out.
New variants are definitely possible, but with five other mods (and two more I haven't released yet) being worked on I have to manage my time to make sure they don't fall behind. One thing on the lore is that they were stored, but the location of those stored units was forgotten and most weren't recovered until 3030, except for a couple of chassis that managed to escape the clutches of the Periphery stores.
I am not changing the size as that fucks up the model and rigging and it would be a disservice to Tedwin who made all those assets so it's not in the cards period. I scaled it's height to be in a decent spot for a 30 ton mech, but as for it's dimensions, that's never going to change.
No worries on the dimensions. Again, it's a MINOR critique. There are other mechs that don't quite feel right in their tonnage bracket. If it's not going to change then it is what it is. No big deal.
Also looking fowrard to what mods you have coming up. You've knocked out some great content, so very fascinated in seeing what you have coming up. As always, a huge thank you for everything you've done to improve MW5.
Okay, now, just trying to provide some constructive criticism. Please take this for what it is. Just trying to help refine what has been made to help things fit in as smoothly as possible.
On the lore front, saying they're all stored and forgotten sadly becomes a huge plot hole. Saying mechs were produced during the beginning of the Succession Wars in mass quantities, and then were forgotten, is in complete contradiction to the first and second Succession Wars where the houses were fielding everything they could possibly scrounge. Steiner in particular were thrilled to be able to leverage all of the recently acquired Outwards Alliance planets and manufacturing strength they secured at the end of the Amaris Civil War.
Now, if you want to fix the Daggerman's lore in an easy-ish way, then you can say Stefan Amaris had commissioned the Daggerman (not unlike the Rifleman III, that only had a few prototypes fielded) immediately after seizing the throne. Then, before the production run could be fielded, Kerensky started conquering the hell out of the Outworlds Alliance. This caused the loyal developers to bury the run they had access to in controlled demolitions, leaving most of them sealed in warehouse tombs until being discovered in 3030, not unlike a SLDF cache.
For example, even a retconned "new" mech, the 70t Viper, was produced at the beginning of the Succession Wars by the Free World's League, but nearly went extinct because they couldn't produce the lostech necessary for the original blueprint design; and Crusaders were also more valuable, which the Viper shared production facilities with. Therefore, downgrades of the Viper were more field refits than actual production variants (currently why there's no canon VP-2 through VP-4, but a limited production VP-5), and the mech was very rare until lostech returned. Even then the Viper only became popular in later eras when huge caches of surplus Blazers were discovered, making production of the core blueprint VP-1 variant easy to do.
Again, just trying to help and provide friendly feedback. Take it or leave it as you desire. The mech itself is still awesome and I look forward to running into them on my next career/campaign. Just a pity they're all lostech, so either very rare or late-game in appearance, which really hurts a 30t chassis.
I get the thing with the lore and I will make some downgraded variants in the future, but I don’t want to deviate and make changes without approval because that’s what Tedwin came up with for the mech. Maybe I can spruce up the wording to make it more ambiguous as to how many are out and about vs lost in the Periphery after I talk with him. Everything I do is through him so before I start changing his mech’s lore, I have to make sure it’s okay first 👍
And yeah the size thing is as technical as it is style lol. Thanks as always for the feedback! You’re always one of the first to post so it’s good to have. 😊
No worries and I'm happy to help wherever I can. If you want, feel free to reference Tedwin to these posts; and y'all are very welcome to contact me on Nexus or otherwise if you or Tedwin want to discuss things or bounce ideas. While there are plenty of people who are greater experts than I, I've still been involved in Battletech for a LONG time and am full of ideas and lore knowledge and such. Apocryphal chassis are always fun to make and refine, as I've done more than a couple of times. Almost as fun as just making builds in a mechlab.
