I have made a compatible mod that adds 30 NEW heroes to the game:

Xeth's Hero Pack


This mod improves heroes in several ways:
Hero Skills
- Blademaster: Renamed to, "Accuracy" and made available all hero types.
- Convoker: New skill for mage heroes only. Gives +1.5 Power per level to your Wizard (no super version).
- Defender: New skill for fighter heroes only. Grants +0.25 Defense (+0.33 for super) per level to normal units in the stack.
- Noble: Removed from the game and its effects have been combined with Legendary. Now available to all hero types, Legendary now gives +4 gold (+6 with super) per level in addition to Fame.

Buff Existing Heroes:
- Heroes with low stats for their Fame tier given boosts.
- Heroes with less skills (aka, "picks") than others at their Fame tier given another pick or a new skill.
- Mystic X substantially buffed with matching requirements, becoming a respectable Champion.

Hero Mana Pool Rework:
- Eliminates the diminishing value of higher levels of the Caster skill.
- Eliminates discounts added to most combat spells.

- Mystic X: 40 fame required, 500 gold hiring cost, 10 gold upkeep, 8 melee, 8 ranged, 5 defense, caster 10

- Elana the Priestess: Changed Noble to Convoker
- Sir Harold the Knight: Changed Noble to Defender


Regarding hero mana pools:
Heroes Receive a diminishing percentage of total casting skill from leveling beginning at level 4. This balancing change was made because magical ranged attacks consumed 3 mana per shot in the original game but now have their own ammo pool. Here are the percentages of casting skill per level that are currently given:

Levels 1-3 = 100%
Level 4    = 94%
Level 5 = 88%
Level 6 = 82%
Level 7 = 76%
Level 8 = 70%
Level 9 = 64%

Example: A hero has the, "Caster 10" skill which would give 10 mana worth of casting skill per level up to 90 casting skill at the max level of 9. Instead, using the percentages from above these are the actual value:

Level 1 = 10 mana (should be: 10)
Level 2 = 20 mana (should be: 20)
Level 3 = 30 mana (should be: 30)
Level 4 = 37 mana (should be: 40)
Level 5 = 44 mana (should be: 50)
Level 6 = 49 mana (should be: 60)
Level 7 = 53 mana (should be: 70)
Level 8 = 56 mana (should be: 80)
Level 9 = 57 mana (should be: 90)

Additionally, changes were also made that reduce the casting cost of most combat spells from 10%-35%. This contradicts the purpose of reducing the mana pools in the first place while giving a slight buff to fantastic casting units. By eliminating this change, the numbers mostly balance each other out and are consistent in mana costs.
