In my case (X-fi card) best sound i have with OpenAL Soft with 5.1 preset instead native Creative OpenAL . Install OpenAL Soft instructions Just take x64 soft_oal.dll from Openal\bin\Win64 rename to OpenAL32.dll and drop to win64 game folder with replacement. Use program \Openal\alsoft-config to setup your configuration like a speakers\headphones, hrtf, decoders use only for 2 speakers or headphone. In %appdata% will appear alsoft.ini. My config for 5.1: [General] hrtf=false channels=surround51 [decoder] hq-mode=true Interesting fact: when you change any value like music or voice in options menu (and back button) in BIOEngine.ini the line "DeviceName=Generic Software" change to "DeviceName=Generic Hardware" and add new line "UseEffectsProcessing=False". Unfortunately, hardware sound works only on original Mass Effect 1 with X-fi / auzen cards, especially with DeviceName=SB X-Fi Audio [0001], better than "Generic Hardware". LE1 has only software OpenAl, so just use OpenAL Soft.
Seriously, is there anything they didn't mess up in the "Legendary Edition"? Thanks for the tip, works like a charm! Moreover, it even re-enables the lost EAX effects. Places like the Citadel feel so much more alive now.
Seems to work I also edited my Coalesced_INT.bin: [ISACTAudio.ISACTAudioDevice] MaxChannels=64 TotalAvailableChannels=60 ReserveChannels=4 TimeBetweenHWUpdates=13 Added missing TotalAvailableChannels and ReserveChannels (+2 from Classic ME1) and lowered TimeBetweenHWUpdates by two
It is much better than before not sure if it is gone for good though. Wonder what the source of the dll file is.
Yeaaah. Now sounds proper like a metronome. +1 kudo One more problem fixed by community and just with a simple copy-paste, ty a lots :) <3 But sad for LE2&3 it cannot be applied.. in ME-LE3 the sounds and dialogs are sync but infamously distorted. And in ME-LE2 whaa de-sync de-sync, de-sync everytime, not localized voice on certains dialogs in LE, femshep voice change sometimes into maleshep at the end...no more comment lol. tks for your lil' & efficient fix :p

ALSO: Thank you xMath3w for this mod. It's great for folks who just want a simple fix for one game
Ive exactly the same issue there.

I already listed the source of the file in the description, it's from some kind of OpenAL software.
