The screenshots do not do this mod justice. The updated lighting is so beautiful and is a perfect combination of old and new—LE1 truly feels like a proper remaster and update of the original game now. I keep finding myself pausing to marvel at how light looks like light and how it bounces off characters' skin and armour. It is immersive, gorgeous, and helps recapture the feel and artistic design choices of the original ME1 team. It also highlights the new 3D work and textures done to the old models by the remaster team. I will never play LE1 without this mod again.
Thank you for your hard work! This is brilliant contribution to the community and an essential piece in bringing a faithful Mass Effect experience to the modern gamer.
The difference this mod makes is amazing. I was skeptical at first because it didn't look all that impactful in the screenshots, but if you're like me and didn't download it right away because of that, STOP. Download it right now. It's true that the screenshots REALLY don't do this mod justice. You have to see it in motion. I'm using it alongside Color Reshade and the result is just... man. I love it. I can't sing its praises enough! I didn't install motion blur or film grain, only the bloom, and my game looks just *chef's kiss* Thanks for giving us the choice, btw!
You did an incredible job with this, it really does look like a proper remaster now and I don't think I'll be able to go back to vanilla LE1!
I am completely blown away by this mod. I've played Mass Effect 1 both in its original form and the Legendary version multiple times each, and have often installed texture and lighting mods. I can legitimately say that this is my absolute favorite Mass Effect mod ever. The quality of this is just ridiculously incredible. Thank you so, so much for all your hard work. The results speak for themselves. (Everyone, the screenshots DO not show this incredible mod justice! The game looks amazing with this installed!)
I am working on extensive playthrough comparisons so people can get a better feel. As I am doing so I keep finding things to add and/or fix. Expect an update soon with improvements, expansion, and fixes.
Hi, I've installed your mod and tried playing a little. But I just had a conversation with Liara who just arrived on board and the lighting seemed rather unnatural and very dark :
If you're using Liara Consistency Mod (ME1LE) or Liara Consistency Project, then that's you're culprit. As far as the comment section on those pages go, it's limited to disrupting the lighting for conversations with Liara solely on the Normandy, and doesn't affect conversations with her in the rest of the game. You should be able to disable MELLO prior to her Normandy conversations, and then re-enable it afterward if it's an issue. I haven't downloaded the latest Community Patch yet for LE1, but I think you can do it from the game menu now? There may or may not be a patch for this issue in the future, but:
Extending compatibility support is planed on the long term. But I can't assure you anything, nor give you an ETA. There's way too many options and patches already on this mod and offering MELLO ones would essentially duplicate every single option. LCP mod author Marcus22Khaar
You're right, I do use that mod. It's not that big of an issue, especially since I now know the culprit and that it isn't supposed to look that way. Thanks for the help !
Sorry! Here it is for example in Consort Chambers: https://imgur.com/XTRwr5k
Or here when talking with Helena: https://imgur.com/VLCoq0W
And I did make sure I installed all DLC first and then textures. Did like 6 clean backup restores and mod installs again.
Like it looks way better in important dialogues cutscenes (where I guess there is custom lighting designed just for that) but especially on citadel it looks quite... strange.
These Looks like what happens when the light is directly or close to directly overhead, I checked the areas, and you need to be in pretty specific places to trigger it.
Most cases are temporary as the you pass under the light and on into different lighting. Mass Effect 1 2007 had issues with facial shadows as well especially when lights were directly overhead, and most people bothered by it disabled them with a bionegine.ini tweak. In LE the issue is similar but worse in a few ways especially vanilla where that lighting was almost universal if it wasn't washed out by being over lit from all angles.
But I am pretty sure what you are seeing is not caused by any mods, it's just the lighting system in transition spaces between lights throughout the scene where the light comes from directly overhead. The lighting system is not the best. I did what I could to restore what was superior about the 2007 version lol. But lighting seems like an afterthought for these "remasters".
I'd also like at least MELLO2 (LE3 looks almost completely fine), but I wish Catachr1sm didn't go crazy because of it. In the mod description he said that making MELLO1 was masochistic already xD.
Awesome.. i rarely go back to play le1 because the graphics are so outdated but this mod makes such a difference, its so much clearer and brighter.. thanks
I used to play this game all the time back in the game and finally decided to replay it once more. I want to improve graphics as much as possible. To this end i've downloaded ALOT,ALOT ISL,ALOV, LEUITM,MELLO From my understanding the correct order for installing them would be: MELLO - ALOT/ALOT ISL/ALOV - LEUITM is that correct? I also intend to increase resolution via DSR to 8k but not sure if my GPU will handle that, we'll see ;) Do you have any other recommendations to improve the graphics?
Not the mod author but did your installation order prove to be correct? I'm in the same boat and would hate to break anything. Hope your game looks amazing with all of those mods installed!
I've not actually started playing yet as i had no time, i'll start tomorrow ;) But from the brief look inside the game it works alright everything seems to display properly (keep in min i've only seen Eden Prime).I've also slapped Mass Effect - COLOR (Reshade Overhaul) on top of what i already mentioned since HDR is not working properly in this game for some unknown reason. Oh and i also recommend this if you don't like vignette like me: https://www.nexusmods.com/masseffectlegendaryedition/mods/428 You can also set Anisotropic filtering to x16 from amd/nvidia control panel.
The game looks alright but there are some issues which were not present in old version - specifically concerning AA - in the distance while moving there are flickering on straight lines (like bariers, floor panels s#*! like that) in the past this could've been removed via applying some AA in nvidia profile inspector (can't recall exact name of AA) however in Legendary Edition it's not possible to do this so you are stuck with that flickering. Also i checked DSR x4 from 4K to 8K xD , It works though i moved to like ~60fps only so i decided 120fps is better move here will need to look through resolutions and use something like 5-6K since i got like 25-30% gpu power left at 4k 120fps, though if you want to play with that you will need 4080/90/7900xtx i got 4080 myself.
Thanks, This mod loads second right after community patch, so all other mods would need patches to support this mod if their files overlap. This other mod is one file, so overlap should be minimal.
In fact the only thing modded by MELLO in that file is the tint of the SR1 hat for the the NPCs wearing it in engineering (hat is made more navy blue than light blue when compared to unmodded). So stating they are incompatible is a stretch. You will lose a hat tint edit in engineering if the author doesn't patch the mod.
I'm fairly new to modding so I don't know the terminology yet; I'm sorry.
I said they are not compatible because when MELLO is activated, Adams wears his vanilla outfit but when I deactivated MELLO Adams wore the crew fatigues as intended by Adams Fatigues.
So are you saying I should install Adams Fatique AFTER your mod?
Hmmm...this shouldn't happen due to load order MELLO loads first, so the mod in question should overwrite.
Update: That mod mods the base game. I didn't think this was even allowed for content mods, so it didn't cross my mind earlier. Because it's installing to the base game, any mod that mods the same game file will overwrite.
In general, modders should not make content mods like this mod the base game directly, if you want them compatible with other mods. Base game modding is usually reserved for things like startup file or various config stuff, not mesh swaps like the mentioned mod, for this very reason of compatibility issues.
The mod author would need to patch and make that mod a DLC content mod instead of base game mod, which it should be.
For what it's worth Adams Fatigues was made before LE1 DLC's were a thing happy to fix this at some point but will probably do so when the LE1 Framework is released
Thanks a lot for the mod! All your mods are awesome and the lighting looks so much better. I was confused why I could barely notice the film grain, turns out the Vignette Remover mod seems to disable the film grain. Just wanted to give folks a heads up; I'm glad I noticed it sooner rather than later cause the film grain looks great and helps with color banding in SDR.

Holy crap the difference it makes when you first see it in action is truly amazing
and as some of the other comments say the photos doesn't do this mod any justice as to when you see it on the screen for the first time
Thanks mate for a truly amazing mod i heartily endorse this mod

Liara with Mello
Liara without Mello
Is it supposed to look that way ? Or do I have some conflict with another mod ?
thanks for your help and keep up the great work.

If I install MELLO, will the modifications still be taken into account, please?
I don't know what I did wrong. This is all highest settings, 4k, 4090 RTX etc.

Wish I did it for my recent first playthrough. Definitely must-have for even first-time players.
Right?
I'm not sure what the etiquette is in that case, so I'm posting on both mods' page. Would it be too much to ask for a patch? ^_^
On a side note, congrats: ME1 looks incredible. I could not believe it!
