Mass Effect 3

Over the last couple of months, I have had many users ask if a certain mod they are using is compatible. Sometimes, some of these mods are not included in the compatibility list. I have grown tired of answering these questions though. Manually confirming if a mod is compatible is easy.

First check what mount priority your DLC mod is. The easiest way to do so is to go to this website https://me3tweaks.com/mods/known_dlc_mods and check for your mods mount priority. If it does not share the same mount priority as Project Variety then that mod has passed the first step to confirming compatibility.

Second, check to see if your mod and Project Variety share any PCC files. Due to the size of Project Variety, it is recommended you look in the mod that you want to verify compatibility for. If your mod and PV do share the same files check to see if there are patches available. For example Allers Redone, which modifies BioD_CitHub_Dock.pcc, and PV, which also modifies BioD_CitHub_Dock.pcc, have a patch to maintain compatibility.

If there is no patch then the mods are incompatible. For example, Thanemod modifies BioD_Cat003_380DesksConvos.pcc, BioD_Cat003_380DesksConvos_LOC_INT.pcc, BioD_Cat003_180DocksCop_LOC_INT.pcc, and BioD_Cat003_000LevelTrans_LOC_INT.pcc. Project Variety also modifies these files. Since there is not patch then it is compatible.

The next thing you have to consider is the mount priority between incompatible mods. If both mods modify a pcc file, the one with the higher mount priority always wins. In ThaneMod’s and PV’s case, this means that PV would override Thanemod’s content. This would break Thanemod because it is a story mod, meaning only one of the mods can be used at once.

There is a way to change the mount priority of DLC mods, but it is not recommended at all. Basically no mod author, including myself, will support you if you decide to do so.

If a mod is a PCC mod or a .mod file, its compatibility can be determined if Project Variety modifies that file.  If it does, then that PCC mod or .mod is incompatible. The reason is because that PCC mod or .mod file was made to modify the pcc file of the vanilla game and not the Project Variety pcc. Because of its nature as a DLC mod, Project Variety will override any changes those PCC mods or .mods would make.
