*If you are using the legendary edition.

Because it uses directx11 you can download and use this reshade with sweetfx
    https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/22029
(it's for fallout4 but the files are interchangeable between games)

Just install the files into the game folder as directed here, but use the linked reshade with sweetfx above.
If you have any issues once it's installed, rename the DXGI.DLL to D3D11.dll and it should work fine.

    *Note:
If you would like to post video's or pics please do so through the tabs above and place them in the appropriate area. Videos to
    video, pics to pics.
Do not spam chat with those, unless relevant to a chat issue.

This looks great, but I have a question. I'm using a 30 series gpu, do I still need the nvidia optimus fix for your mod to work? I'm considering using the enb with reshade and sweetfx version.

      Hi and Thanks.
      With that version.
When you install the files, the enb has already been named d3d9orig.dll to work with the additional d3d9.dll (optimus fix)
You can try it without the additional file, but you need to rename the ENB d3d9orig.dll back to it's original name D3D9.DLL
Run the game and see if they are running together.
If not you will need that additional file and to rename the ENB back to d3d9orig.dll.

Give it a try and let me know if it worked.

I did discover a way an ATI user can use the two together.

You would first download/place just the reshade with sweetfx version.
Rename the d3d9.dll to dxgi.dll and start your game to determine that it is running.

Next you have to goto the ENB site and download the full enb as they will not run through one another as they do here, but rather, separately, overlapping one another.
These ENBs are all compatible, pick and use one. Use the "Wrapper Version"

      The generic one - http://enbdev.com/mod_generic_v0076.htm
      Black Mesa - http://enbdev.com/download_mod_blackmesa.htm
      Burn-out Paradise - http://enbdev.com/download_mod_burnparadise.htm
      Collapse - http://enbdev.com/download_mod_collapse.htm

Extract the Wrapper Version (the one containing the d3d9.dll file) to your game folder with the reshade & sweetfx.
Start the game and test it, you should now see the two at game start, each running separately.
You can now adjust the ENB through it's enbseries.ini.
And the reshade & sweetfx through the Sweetfx/SweetFX_settings.txt.

Since they are overlapping one another using this method, you may want to tweak the two.
Don't try to link the two together, that will only work with the nvidia setup.

anyone any idea how to get this to work with my spec? : AMD Ryzen 9 4900H, Win 10 64, NVidia GeForce RTX 2060

I've installed the 3 file choices seperately, played with the d3d39.dll's - trying each one and the mod doesn't apply - no message on loading and pause/break has no effect in game. I'd love to get this to work but don't know what to try now!

    Playing Legendary Edition from Steam.

    thanks anyone :)

It uses directx 11, the original uses dx9.
What you can do is use this one https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/22029

    Hello,

I am having issues with the ENB version of the mod not working on my AMD GPU. When I use the Reshade or Sweetfx only versions, it works fine, but I'd like to use the ENB version for memory support purposes. I tried all of the other d3d9 files that came with the mod, and none of them seemed to work either. I can see the splash screen, but the game then instantly CTDs before the main menu loads.

My GPU is a RX 5700xt. Any ideas for a fix? I already tried the DX9 drivers link.

      Hi,

Try updating and optimizing your video card to make sure it's not a driver or settings issue.
      https://youtu.be/K1N4vV5BSoI

Let me check if there's anything else I can find that may also help.
I'm pretty sure that card should work.

Just wanted to mention I found a way to fix the issue, though I'm not sure if it's the right way.

Copying the d3d9 file from SweetFX/dlls/FXAA DX9 DLL

Seemed to allow my game to launch. I'm not sure if it's utilizing the correct settings for the ENB with this DLL though.

The effect on performance is minimal, the game should still play fine. All add-ons do cause a slight FPS draw, but you shouldn't notice it.

At the game start do you see that it is running in the upper left corner of the screen, is there any text that appears?
As well which one are you using the enb or the reshade version.
Also do you have an nvidia or a amd video card?

Did you try altering the d3d9.dll with an alternate from the altd3d9 folder (if you are using the enb version)?
Usually switching those with one of the alternatives will correct the issue.
Also what type of video card do you have?
If it's an Nvidia, you can use this with it to also help get it working
      https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/33227
Download that d3d9 and place it in the game folder with the other files, but, first rename the d3d9.dll from this mod to d3d9orig.dll so both work together and one doesn't overwrite the other.

Thanks for the mod, greatly appreciated!

To be honest, for all the hassle of trying to use ALOT & MEUITM, I couldn't really see any difference.

Using this ENB is really simple and effective!

I have one problem, I still notice on various areas of the game gradient/banding.

Even in the screen shots listed for the MOD, where John Shepard is staring out the window into space, you can see the gradient/banding in the window.

I really see this a lot on walls, especially some walls on the ships.

Is there any way to get rid of this 100% in the game?

By the way if I use the ENB and don't adjust any files, everything works already? Because I thought with SMAA it would get rid of the banding.

Also we don't need to use ENBseries with this mod?

Just install the file as is, you don't need any additional files or downloads for it to work.
Also to help take away the issue you are referring to you can either
      1. Make the alteration to the BIOEngine.ini. Check just under the install notes on the description and make the depth of field alteration.
      or
2 . Install the ME1 Graphics tweak with it from here https://www.nexusmods.com/masseffect/mods/86

Just place the files and if you want to make any alterations you just alter the sweetfx/preset/ file.
You'll see the enb listed at game start in your upper left of the screen.
The SMAA will help smooth most surfaces in the game but certain angles do still have some rough edges, which I did try to reduce, but combined with the graphics tweak it should look alot better.

For now I'll just put DepthofField=FALSE

Is ALOT or MEUITM also good to install, or will they conflict with the ENB?

      I also installed 'ME1 Recalibrated', I'm assuming it's a good thing...

      Thanks for your reply! :)

P.S. I almost forgot to ask, I've never been a fan of Nvidia's Geforce Experience, but I'm wondering, is there any benefit to the 'Reshade' in it, could it help Mass Effect with the Banding?

ALOT and Meuitm work fine with the enb, no conflicts. With ME1 recalibrated, I haven't used that but looking it over, it seems to be fine, just install it first before the ALOT and Meuitm.
Is it possible you could post a screenshot here in the images to show me the banding issue? I've been looking up the issue but can't seem to find any screenshots, just some people on the nvidia forum referring to having the issue, but not with this game specifically and only happening to some and not the others. I'm wondering if it maybe a driver issue from what I've read. If I could see the issue then I'd have a better reference to what you are experiencing.
As far as the nvidia reshade, it doesn't work with all games, but it is a nice feature. I use it in most of my newer games, it is nice because you can customize the games to personalize them more. If you do use it, I can give you my common settings I use with most games that seems to work fairly well.

If you look through the screen shots here for the ENB on Nexusmods, you will also notice in some of them this issue I am talking about, where there are ripples/bands appearing. They appear mostly on walls I've noticed in the game, sometimes in sky backgrounds too...

Gradient Banding is common in PC gaming, it's my understanding it's more common with Nvidia, supposedly because they don't offer a Dither option in Windows to correct the issue, from what I've read.

I've taken some of the screen shots and placed red around them, and one with an arrow pointing up, so look closely in these areas and you will notice the blotches, banding. Also the first 4 screenshots of John, I took one of those and marked the area in red, but look at the other 3 here, and you'll see some of them also appear more noticeable, depending on ALOT or MEUITM.

      https://imgur.com/a/6AzQ8zY
Besides the window marked in red, the two pipes to the left, one looks silver and the other copper looking in color, notice the banding/blotches that appear on the wall in between them too.

      https://imgur.com/a/YMLCTLF
Be sure to look at the other screen shots of John here for the ENB to also see the differences in the same area, some more noticeable then others too.

That link looks more like something to do in the developmental process of images, not really an end-user approach from what I can tell, it doesn't really say how to do any of this...

The link just explains the issue and methods for reducing it in games and such. It is alot of reading.
I don't really know if I can solve this issue, maybe eliviate the issue, but I have to go over the effects available in the enb, sweetfx and reshade to see if I can accomplish it with the settings they provide.
They mention the methods to help with the issue, such as adding noise or dither effects, probably why alot of the new games use so much noise, scattering and other effects, ones that weren't really available in the older games, such as this one. Although I don't really think adding noise and scattering effects looks that great, they tend to make the picture look grainy and kinda off.
I'll let you know what I figure out.
It's to bad the nvidia reshade doesn't work with this game, it can really make a difference, probably would eliminate this issue.
      Do you use that?

If this is all about Dither, I can't believe Nvidia won't make an option in the Windows drivers, because in Linux there is a Dither option. So if Linux can have the option, I don't get why Windows can't...

      Anyhow...

I remember asking before, so now you are saying that the Nvidia Geforce Experience Reshade might help?

Personally I have not been a fan of Geforce Experience, I don't install it, and I'd rather not install it, unless it's the only answer...

I do know, that whatever changes you've made in this ENB it does reduce the banding, is that mainly from SweetFX? I wonder if there any additional tweaks you can do in the ENB to further reduce it?

Since you are talking about Nvidia's Reshade, what about combining Reshade into your ENB, might it help, rather then needing Nvidia's?

SweetFX and Reshade have a 'Deband' option... hmm

      THANKS

P.S. If I use your Reshade, do I need the Reshade application installed?

      Hi,
Well unfortunately with the ME1 & 2 games they are abit older so the nvidia reshade wouldn't work with them, but for newer games it would, including ME3. There's over 650 games supported by the nvidia reshade so far.
As far as this game though you'd need to use the normal reshade. The normal one and the nvidia one are the same in their functions and effects that you can use.
The one I have in the mod is the original one based off the combination of reshade and sweetfx. It doesn't require the install of the newer reshade. I'm just checking though to see if I can use a combination of filters from the new one and the original one that may help. You can upgrade the reshade to a version 3.0 and it will still work with the reshade and sweetfx but can offset the settings and I'm not sure if installing the newer filters will work with the sweetfx filters at the same time. I'm thinking it should be possible but will have to test it first to make sure.
If you wanted to use reshade by itself, it does use some filters such as deband option, sharpening filters and such that I've read help with banding issues.
      https://reshade.me/
      https://youtu.be/2ckWKyLNF48
Oh and as an nvidia user there is a way of combining all of them if you check the optional downloads and use the extra nvidia file that is linked to it.
I just need a chance to do some more checking, but I hope that helps for now.

I've tried all the mods, I don't see any differences between them, the in game visuals look all the same.

Maybe when you get some free time you can give a break down, explanation between the ENB, Reshade, SweetFX, and what the differences are suppose to mean for the end-users.

I've noticed too, that with all the mods, the character faces in certain lighting conditions are red, even though we can adjust it as you've mentioned, it does appear that the mods could use an adjustment/update to this.

      I looked at #define Vibrance and #define Vibrance_RGB_balance

      #define Vibrance_RGB_balance shows this --> 'float3' in the wording like this; #define Vibrance_RGB_balance float3; (Here's the entire line)

#define Vibrance_RGB_balance float3(1.00, 1.00, 1.00) //[-10.00 to 10.00,-10.00 to 10.00,-10.00 to 10.00] A per channel multiplier to the Vibrance strength so you can give more boost to certain colors over others

      What is this 'float3'?

I guess because of the ships panels that admit a redish hue to them, it's normal for the characters faces to turn red standing next to them, like in the screen shot of John?

      https://imgur.com/a/7fr6PMr

      Here's a screen shot, showing these redish/orange panels on the left and right;

If you want a full rundown of what each one does, it's best to go directly to the sites for them as well as checking their forums. As far as the effects they are different for each, depending on which one is in use. I don't have any using the newest reshade, so I don't have a setup file for that. You are the only one ever to ask about banding. And to tell the truth the only thing I can find that may help is on the reshade forum. https://reshade.me/forum/shader-presentation/768-deband?start=12
For sweetfx here is a full outline of the effects, their uses and how they effect output
      https://delightlylinux.wordpress.com/2014/01/20/sweetfx-shader-suite/
      Here is for enb
      https://wiki.step-project.com/Guide:ENB
Now as far as the rgb float each one is a color spectrum. If you alter those it can cause an imbalance of the colors by making one color stronger or lighter then the others. RGB is what each one of the 3 settings represent. The first Red, the second Green the third Blue.
The last screenshot is likely because an imbalance has been created in the settings as it normally wouldn't look like that.

Sorry I wasn't being real clear here. I have a basic understanding of an ENB, Reshade and SweetFX, explaining these is not what I meant. I meant it would be nice if you explained the differences between your mods, and what to expect using them, so we have a better comparison between them.

      The Description does say;
This is meant to enhance the overall games appearance. Bringing out the true colors and definition in the game. Giving you a sharper and clearer picture. Video's included.

To my eyes, I can't tell any difference between them, I guess the problem, maybe it has to do with the age of Mass Effect and the hardware people are running it on, as to what they might see in the way of differences between each of the mods.

I'd like to think I have pretty sharp eyes for detail, and honestly, they all looked 100% identical, colors the same, hues the same, clarity the same, various game effects of AA, etc., all looked the same, I truly could not spot any differences... hmm

Since I can't see any differences between them, I just stick to the 'ENB with SweetFX'.

      THANKS

Looking at the side by sides images , you can clearly see the difference.
The colors are more vibrant and more natural, there is more definition in the game, edges have been reduced, shading has been altered. The overall game looks sharper and more defined. It is an older game so there is only so much you can do.
What you seem to be referring to is textures. There is a difference between a graphic enhancement and a texture enhancement. When you combine the two you see the biggest differences in a game. But think of graphics enhancements as like settings in your ingame graphics menu. When you use settings in the graphics menu for your games it helps improve the picture by enabling functions from your graphics, but it doesn't alter the textures in the games, it may help improve the look of existing textures, but again to truly improve the textures you need a texture pack upgrade.
If you want to improve the textures then you use things like MEUITM or ALOT. They can be combined with this to give an overall greater appearance to the game.
What I found confusing with your banding examples was the areas which you pointed out existed in the normal game.
The mods are setup to all look identical in appearance, the difference is that it is achieved using different means so as to give alternatives to applying them. If one isn't compatible you then have the option to use the alternate. If your intent is to customize it further, then the enb combination allows you to further intertwine changes that reshade and sweetfx doesn't possess. The reason being is reshade and sweetfx are run solely off the sweetfx file, whereas the enb is using the proxy to process the sweetfx settings in conjunction with it's own. Reshade at this time was created in combination with sweetfx. Reshade is a result of the combination. Reshade by itself is simply the newest version of sweetfx.

I meant when I use yours MODS, the changes they make to the game, yes I clearly see a difference, but I'm saying that difference is the same with all the MODS.

I see you mentioned that the mods are setup to all look identical in appearance, and that is what confused me. I assumed, there would be differences, same idea as why a MOD DEV makes several ENBs for one game, all of them to create different visuals, etc.

Glad we finally got that clarified, thanks for the replies and your efforts! The mods are nice! :)

P.S. I do use ALOT & MEUITM with the ENB with SweetFX for Mass Effect 1...

You can turn down the vibrance if you like. Just goto the sweetfx/presets folder open the settings file and goto the vibrance line. Then reduce the number there.
It will be near the bottom under Vibrance settings there are two lines there. #define Vibrance and #define Vibrance_RGB_balance
