Thanks so much for the Legendary Edition instructions, I used this ME1 reshade on all 3 OT Mass Effect games and loved it in each of them, now I'm gonna do the same in Legendary Edition :D
I don't know how to tell if it's working properly, but I turned it on to test and conversations look normal so far, I'll keep it on and let you know if any issues pop up!
The game applies its own DOF during conversations. I'm referring to the DOF applied during normal gameplay by the Cinematic DOF shader depending on what's in focus. No close up subject in focus Ashley's head in focus
If it works in LE, and the quickslots and interact UI elements are in the same place as OT, then you don't have to turn it off unless you want to.
It seems the DoF doesn't work at all for gameplay in LE1 unfortunately, or at least toggling it on and off doesn't look any different to me at multiple angles with a squadmate at various distances. Photo mode can have it enabled, I'm wondering if in the future there'll be a mod that enables that for gameplay
I see. ReShade requires depth buffer access for shaders like MXAO and CDOF to work. Doing what's mentioned in step 5 enables access in OT, but I don't know what the situation is in LE.
Okay I went back to Step 5, I had already done the .ini edit but that didn't work, this time I enabled the Copy Depth Buffer thing in D3D11 gui and it seems to work, but the UI is getting blurred as well, weapon UI and conversation wheels are both effected
Looks like its blurring things up close which isn't how I've configured it. Shepard, squad mates at the sides and essential UI elements shouldn't be affected like that. I could be wrong, but maybe the depth input in LE is reversed like its in The Witcher 3. Check if clicking Edit global preprocessor definitions and setting RESHADE_DEPTH_INPUT_IS_REVERSED to 1 fixes the issue.
Dialogue wheel/subtitles are unfortunately a bit of an issue sometimes. Like I told another user, they take up more space and aren't fixed in size so making ReShade ignore the affected areas doesn't work so great with stronger DOF. Reducing the strength helps.
For some reason, that setting was already set to 1, I tried reinstalling and setting it to your .ini again, but it still was 1 by default, turning that to 0 solved the majority of the issues
For the most part it seems to function normally, but Wrex's squad member screen for instance is super blurry, but Garrus and Shepard's were fine, subtitles occasionally get obscured but the Citadel transit terminal works just like it should now
Now its working correctly. Not sure why that setting defaulted to 1. That's why it was applying DOF in reverse.
Wrex's squad screen is affected due to his gigantic frame. Since he takes up two-thirds of the screen, the auto focus point is on him and ReShade applies DOF to the area it perceives as the background. With the other squad members, the auto focus point isn't on them since they're much smaller. What you can do is set the DOF toggle key to the same key you use to open your squad screen. This way DOF is disabled when you open the menu and enabled when you exit it, provided you press the same key both times.
Thank you very much for all the testing. Much appreciated.
My preset doesn't use MagicBloom. Why are you selecting that shader during installation? And when I add MB to my preset, it works fine. What does the error msg say exactly?
really nice, took a bit a tweaking after everything is set to fit my preferences but its good. I was having issues with the Cinematic DOF when I had it running at default, mostly causing some issues with subtitles and the dialog wheel being blurred out but once i dropped some of the values it fixed it.
Thanks. Yes, subtitles are a bit of an issue with stronger DOF (I normally turn them off). You could have ReShade ignore the subtitles area, but the problem is unlike smaller, static UI elements like quickslots that are at the edges of the screen, they take up more screen space (top and bottom) and aren't fixed in size.
Installed this on my game works great very subtle changes yet definately noticable. It makes an old game seem almost new and it is not very taxing on the system I have not noticed any drop in framerates and I'm on an older gaming laptop.
DOF does impact performance and so does MXAO to a smaller extent. But as long as your system's good enough to meet your target framerate, the performance impact isn't going to affect you.
I'm actually liking this preset enough that I just added it to my ME2 instead of the version for ME2 it is just so crisp and sharp I may try it with ME3 and see how it looks with the added texture mods I have.
Yeah, I recommend using this version with the other two games until I update their presets. I've even mentioned it in their descriptions. ME2 version's the oldest, most basic of them all. Even the ME3 version doesn't have things like DOF and MXAO. Plus, its all in one preset instead of two separate versions.
Anyway, once I'm done with ME1, I'll look into updating the ME2 version.
I downloaded and did the file exchange and restarted but nothing is happening when I press my "home button" not even sure if I am pressing the right button. I don't usually mod that in depth, can you help?
Do you see the ReShade message (Visit https://reshade.me, Press 'Home') at the top left of your screen when you start the game? If not, then the ReShade files are not in the right place.
But if you are seeing the message, then you're either pressing the wrong button or your Home button's not working for whatever reason. In that case, open your ReShade.ini (config file) and try changing the KeyOverlay parameter under [INPUT]. By default its 36 which is the JavaScript keycode for the Home button. Change it to something else.
The other thing you can try is to check whether my preset is working. Open ReShade.ini and set PresetPath=.\Illusive ReShade ME1 Full.ini under [GENERAL]. You can easily tell when the full version's working given it has the letterbox effect (black borders). If the preset's working, then you know its a button issue.
MXAO and CinematicDOF don't do a thing. They have the biggest FPS impact but they do not change one pixel. I didn't change any values. Is is supposed to do anything?
The MultiLUT profiles are really cool. Several interesting color filters with a 2fps cost.
Did you enable Copy depth buffer before clear operations under D3D9 in the GUI or set DepthCopyBeforeClears=1 in your ReShade.ini (step 5)? MXAO and CDOF won't work unless you enable that parameter.
Look at the comparison shots to see what they do. You can see DOF and even MXAO do its thing in the very first shot. Check the 4th shot (Wrex down in Engineering) for another MXAO example.

Anyway, thanks for checking.

EDIT: Works just fine with LE. Thanks!
Overall great job ;)
