Great stuff! Really helps with my decade-old integrated graphics. One issue I'm having is that detection spheres for mines are missing now. I kinda guessed that some files from this mod are responsible for that (the ones with v_mn* in their name), and indeed after removing
    v_mndeadfall_1.mdl
    v_mndeadfall_1.mdx
    v_mndeadfall_2.mdl
    v_mndeadfall_2.mdx
    v_mnfrag.mdl
    v_mnfrag.mdx
    v_mnplasma.mdl
    v_mnplasma.mdx
    v_mnstun.mdl
    v_mnstun.mdx
the visuals came back. I'm wondering, after looking at the filenames, it seems that they are type-specific. Would that mean that on some other types of mines my fix wont work? Am I missing something or did I delete something unnecessary? I'd be grateful for some advice, thank you.

PS I also would like to know if there are any other functional visual effects that have been removed in the name of performance?

Thanks so much, this is a life-saver! Always wondered why KOTOR lags awfully at some points and is crystal clear on others. There *are* people with older PCs out there. So a big thank you from them as well. It seems to give a good FPS boost.

Still, is it possible to *completely* remove smoke and/or other 'lag heavy' particles or maybe replace them with 'empty' textures? My PC is old, of course, but it seems weird to me to have 60, crystal clear FPS one second and when I turn around it's now 25 FPS (at only one angle). I suspect some textures not optimized well. But it could also be the smoke again, as the lag spikes usually appear in areas there 'used to be' smoke, meaning it was visible there before I installed this mod. Also worth noting is KOTOR 1 worked great with no lag except maybe some 'normal' slowdowns in large open locations. As far as I know, KOTOR 2 uses the same engine (or very similar). So what gives?

I'm asking you, Trevuar25_Trevor-Lentz, because not many people on the web seem interested in helping out gamers with older PCs that still want to enjoy great games (that are also quite old to begin with). I have all settings to the bare minimum (or 'off'), I tried playing around with V-sync, the swkotor2.ini (Disable Vertex...=1), tried upping the settings, lowering them again etc... I try not to have any background programs running. I installed this mod. I searched for any other tweaks/mods that can help. Nothing seems to do the trick. It just seems some locations (more likely textures) are better optimized than others. And to those who say 'just get a new PC', c'mon! If I could afford it right now, I wouldn't be posting this, right? Any help is appreciated.

Sorry for the late reply, as I don't really look at this profile or this site very often! Almost all of the particles in KOTOR I and II are built right into either the map or character models in game. It is possible to completely turn the "birthrate" of the particles to O , however if you do this, stuff like the green and red poison gasses that are shown in game would be entirely invisible. This would make some levels very difficult to play. To even get these particles to be rendered less, I had to extract all the MDL files, use a tool called MDLEdit, and find the values "birthrate" and change them to way lower individually. Then I had to convert the edited files back to the original formatting. It was an extremely tedious process that took over a month to figure out and then implement.

I did a lot of testing and creating of this mod using an old pc and an Intel compute stick (a 1.4ghz quad core with 2 gb of ram and intel HD graphics).

Unfortunately, there are just some parts of levels where I couldn't find the cause of serious slowdowns. I personally believe the slowdowns are not only caused by particle renders, but there must be some very poorly optimized 3d objects or effects that older video cards have trouble rendering.

I might make the same mod for the original KOTOR, but it's just such a tedious process.

I do not remember what mod exactly they are from but KMM didn't tell me there was a conflict between mods so it might be from TSLCRM. (Only one that I didn't use KMM for I believe)
      They were fx_step_splash.mdi and v_damagestat.mdi
I removed them and used the ones from this mod. I'll report back whether it works or not. (Probably should though)
