A simple step that I didn't see mentioned here is that if you beat the droid and got stuck, after installing this mod, you need to talk to the droid again to move the quest forward. Good luck. The Champ was tough for me.
Edit: ultimately the quest log never showed it as completed after winning the tournament, but that's not a big deal.
I had a very frustrating issue, since I beat this droid fair and square (after a LOT of save/load but shhh) and you gave me the mod I needed. You've saved my game and santy. Thanks !!!
I installed the mod, and it worked, allowing me to beat the robot fairly, although the dialog for it was messed up. Then I faced the Champ, and beat him too, but when I speak with the announcer to complete the quest it messes up again, and seems to want me to go beat the Champ, but if I talk to the Champ he just says I won already. Any way to fix this?
I didn't experience this on my end, I'm not sure what would cause this. do you have any other mods that affect this quest? you could go into the files yourself and see if the quest text is broken for your specific file. everything worked for me when I ran the quest, I was able to get the reward and complete it. use the Reddit post i cited to access the file in question.
I had another bug while doing it a while back where the pazaak tournament was almost impossible to win, could you take a look at that too? The opponent basically drew almost perfect cards from the pile, making it near impossible to win.
From my experience, and what i have read, that's not so much a bug as it is just how the cards are generated. there is no "deck" every draw is randomly generated. essentially every card draw is a roll of a D10 dice. basically pazaak is just random and its super frustrating. you win by luck of the draw. just save the game before every match and when you loose just reload and try again, it took me awhile to actually win. If you find something to dispute this i would be interested to learn it. also to add the stratagy i found to be the most effective to win was going into the games with nothing but +/- 3 Cards i found that to get me to 19 or 20 more often than other cards or strategies.
I don't have anything to show you right now, but if i'll ever try it again i'll get a few screenshots or a video. I did play it multiple hours and multiple trys, they always drew perfect cards. I only won by savescumming so i eventually got all the card slots filled without going over 20, that way you win automatically, they always landed on 20 without using their side deck.
