I got it working. if you have another UI folder that modifies HUD element it wont work. Try to put zzzz_foldername so this will load last in order to make it work. Question for anyone or this mod maker: Is there a way that i can incorporate Very Unintrusive Dot with this mod?
I understand a low level mod folder structure, but can't make it work. Can u tell me how exactly what you did?
EDIT: I've managed to make it work. For those wondering, you have to manually open the mod.manifest file (with your notepad) and under the <kcd_version>1.9.2</kcd_version> you coby paste this line but changes the 1.9.2 to 1.9.6 (The actual version of steam)
Looks like there was a big modding tools update. I've not had a chance to look into it. Seems like a large update so I'm guessing a lot of stuff got broken. I'll try to take a look at it when I can. I have a lot on my plate right now. The good news is that with official modding support it might re-invigorate the modding scene for the game, so in a few months there could be some really incredible stuff on the Nexus.
@FoRRe I did find a way to make it work. (V 1.9.4, all DLC) and the steps are as follows: 1: Download the Mod (Obv. :D) 2: Open the CardinalHud.pak file (WinRAR can do this) and extract the Hud_Main.dds from within. 3: Navigate to steamapps/common/KingdomComeDeliverance/Data 4: Open GameData.pak and navigate to Libs/UI/Textures, and find Hud_Main.dds there. (I opened it with paint.net to confirm it was the hardcore hud with hashes instead of cardinal directions. If yours has cardinal directions, try starting the game in hardcore, then saving and quitting, and check again.) 5: Rename the existing Hud_Main.dds (ie. Hud_Main.dds.original) 6: Drag and drop the Hud_Main.dds you extracted from CardinalHud.pak into the same place you found the original game file. 7: Enjoy!
@DrexlVaal Based on the fix I found, it could be a simple pathing issue? Might be simple as a rename in the file structure (based on like 2 hours of poking around, and knowing almost nothing prior about modding).
When replacing the main file inside the root files (GameData.pak > Hud_Main.dds) doesn't work, then other options won't work either.
KCD got its HUD either hardcoded (inside the .exe) or there is another HUD-element fetching file somewhere inside the main .pak files, and I am tbh bloody lazy to search for it. Even the Dog icon was stupidly declared, where "player.dds" was easy to distinguish.
miraficus - Fix worked for me for 1.9.6 too open mod.manifest with notepa (found in the Cardinal Hud folder in your mods). add: <kcd_version>1.9.6</kcd_version> under the supported versions. Save.
Thanks for making this. I haven't had time to update my Hardcore Compass/HUD/Markers Restored mod. Editing the hud.gfx file everytime the game updated was a PITA. Saved me the effort :D
You're welcome! I was also disappointed that it didn't exist, so I made it myself. Normally simple edits to Hud_main.dds like this would be quick, but I wanted to precisely map out the exact area of the image that was read when displaying the cardinal direction hash-marks. That proved more time-consuming than I expected. Had I not been so OCD about it the process would've only taken a few minutes, instead it took a few hours. By doing it this way though I was able to use larger letters than I otherwise would've been able to so I guess it was worth it.
Give it a shot and find out! :) Some parts will work, but I don't think the compass directions will show up. The area of Hud_main.dds that I edited isn't read in normal mode I believe, but I could be mistaken. Since your objectives show up at an extreme range in normal and you have a map icon there is no real need for cardinal directions.
@nickWin2 Thanks. I wish I could take credit for a brilliant design, but literally all I did was take the rounded circle tool in paint.net and draw an oval. It took some trial and error to make sure it was positioned properly in-game, but that's about it. :D I'm glad you like it though. Feel free to copy/paste it into your own Hud_main.dds and repack it if you just want the look.

So mine i did:
<supports>
<kcd_version>1.9.0</kcd_version>
<kcd_version>1.9.1C</kcd_version>
<kcd_version>1.9.1</kcd_version>
<kcd_version>1.9.2</kcd_version>
<kcd_version>1.9.3</kcd_version>
<kcd_version>1.9.4</kcd_version>
<kcd_version>1.9.5</kcd_version>
<kcd_version>1.9.6</kcd_version>
<kcd_version>1.9.7</kcd_version>
</supports>

open mod.manifest with notepa (found in the Cardinal Hud folder in your mods).
add:
<kcd_version>1.9.6</kcd_version> under the supported versions.
Save.
Mod will load.
