Yes it affects both textures, objects and NPCs in some places all around the game. If you get less fps with the mod than without i would recommend setting "e_svoTI_ConeMaxLength=16" to "8" instead. (lower=faster but lighter shadows).
I can't get it to work. I still get the horrible pixelated effect. I got the game on Steam and I put the user.cfg file in the Kingdom Come directory. However, I don't have the .exe file directly on the hard drive so it seem, so my game short cut has this strange path instead steam://rungameid/379430 . I added +exec user.cfg after it to no effect. Anybody knows what I could do? Thanks in advance!
You might need the Restricted console variables unlocker mod in order for it to work. Also if i remember correctly; If you change the shade quality in game after applying the mod/userconfig, you'll have to apply the mod/userconfig again or it will be pixelated again.
Go to the game main folder where you can find system.cfg Place the user.cfg file you downloaded from this page in the same folder where system.cfg is. Create a shortcut of the game executable KingdomCome.exe (you can use the one on the desktop if you have it) Right click on the shortcut, open properties, in the target field leave a space after .exe" and add +exec user.cfg Like so: "D:\Games\Kingdom Come Deliverance\Bin\Win64\KingdomCome.exe" +exec user.cfg After completing STEP 2, launch the game from the shortcut you modified.
I have the game on Steam and I can't get to work. The game shortcut path is a strange path (steam://rungameid/379430) and I seem to not have the .exe directly on my game directory. I added +exec to the path, but when I start the game, I still have that horrible pixelated effect.
EDIT: also this influence the result (ty to Gerard Fraser for the shared user.cfg in the comments) defines the quality of Renderer 0 low / 1 med / 2 high / 3 very high

yes, all the strings inserted in the user.cfg file, and the console commands, work even without the = symbol (a space is enough).
This still works ! I have had this problem since upgrading from 1070 ti to a 3070. Even on ultra I would get these grid textures. It seems KCD did not like the new GPU. Installed this and they are gone. Thanks for this it was driving me mad.

PCGamingWiki reccomendation (Fix low quality global illumination section):
This is a option for future GPU's. Can't wait to play KCD with a curved 21:9 monitor and e_svoTI_ResScaleBase & e_svoTI_LowSpecMode set to zero.
I have a 2060 and r5 3600X
