The mod is pretty good you just need to fix the texture between the ring and bark. A variety of wood types like vanilla would be cool too. They need to release official mod support.
I added the mod exactly as it is stated and it works. It looks alright but not better than vanilla. The black rings on the ends of certain logs is a deal breaker for me. I will give credit for a very good attempt and hopefully a fix will come later on. I did a vanilla and modded screen shot for comparison. Hopefully this isn't taken as an insult because it isn't. Thank you for contributing to the modding community.
Doesnt seem to work for me. :-/ I copied it into the Data/_fastload folder. And I dont have the HD Textures downloaded or enabled. Anyone can help?

Currently I get some weird black 'rings' around the edges of only some of the logs at the ends where they're cut, not sure if it's been mentioned already.
Looks great! I never noticed how bad the logs looked until I saw this mod, then once I did I couldn't stop seeing them everywhere looking ugly as hell. Thanks for this!
Edit: I've noticed since updating to 1.3 that the logs still appear normal from a distance, but when I get up close to them, they close up textures load the logs as completely black, as if they've been burned. Is anybody else experiencing this?
It may be interesting to try with a 2K texture ^^ diffuse and all maps. it's sufficient ! it's 1024 (1K) for the vanilla textures or 512 :-/ the fault to the consoles................
The problem is the resolution of your textures ? 4K is a big texture file for a good loading, especially if the game is optimised for consoles........ or is it the moding technic ? try with the vannilla textures in a zzzz_test.pack ? If it's not black, try with a 2K texture, etc...
Sorry for my english haha, and hope it help... I'm interested by your tests beacause i work on a grounds, trees barks, and distant trees pack ! ^^ and all woods maybe.
edit: anyway, for me a model in black is a model without textures....with a transparent texture per example.
And the bump map ??? and glossMap oO You also have the LOD texture.
I can make it for you for this models if you want :) it's better with all textures/maps you will see !

just take the .tga and save all "ddna" in DDS DXT5 and all "ddna_glossMap" in DXT1 + mip map ! build a new pack with the new textures.
