Updating the mod to v0.10a today. This update incorporates a few changes, but I'll talk a bit about the chainmail rework as it's an area that would benefit from pushback & discussion.
In the base game, the chainmail body items were borderline nonsensical as they had basically identical stats, the "Heavy" hauberk was lighter than smaller hauberks, long/short sleeves made no difference to weight or protection, and there wasn't really a clear differentiation between noble & common gear or between infantry and cavalry hauberks. Plus, the Hungarian gear was overwhelmingly the best for the weight - there was no reason to ever take a heavy or noble hauberk.
I've generally tried to optimise the gear along the following axes:
- Sleeved gear is heavier & more protective than sleeveless
- Common gear is heavier per unit of protection, and relatively weaker against stab
- Noble gear is lighter per unit of protection and relatively stronger against stab
- The heavy hauberk and cuman reinforced hauberks are now heavier and stronger, closer to what a mounted knight would wear
- Some chainmails have been reimagined as lighter in weight, closer to a chain shirt or infantry hauberk
- Now, chain armour ranges between 9-22 slash defence (12-18 previously) and 10-22 weight (11-21 previously) but with wider range of weights and defence between these limits.
I've additionally made the following specific changes:
- Hungarian Hauberks have had their defence nerfed, especially against stab damage. They should now offer more interesting tradeoffs & no longer be the clear best item in all dimensions.
- Made the warhorse hauberk stronger & with unique stats.
Other changes:
- Previous changes to short brigandine chausses (lighter and less noisy) now apply to all short brigandine chausses instead of just one particular colour previously.
